Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of understanding Indonesian language equivalents for students in improving language literacy. Until now, students still face obstacles in finding the right equivalents due to the limited availability of easily accessible learning resources. To address this issue, this study utilizes the Halo Bahasa PASTI feature as a technology-based learning medium. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research subjects are students of SMA Negeri 14 Bone, selected based on ease of access and suitability with the research objectives. Data were collected through knowledge tests, observations, and documentation, then analyzed to describe the application implementation process, students' ability to use it, and students' knowledge of equivalent terms after using the application. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Halo Bahasa PASTI application went quite well. Most students were able to download, install, and operate the application independently, although some still needed further guidance. Students' ability to use the application was relatively good, especially in typing foreign terms, determining the search domain, and finding appropriate equivalents. From the knowledge test results, the majority of students achieved moderate to high scores, so it can be concluded that the use of the application contributed to improving students' understanding of Indonesian term equivalents.

Abstract

The implementation of an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum in maritime vocational higher education requires a transformation of the learning process oriented towards competency outcomes. This study describes the implementation of the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)-based 'One-Presenter Five-Interrogators' technique in improving cadets' oral argumentation skills and critical reasoning. Using descriptive qualitative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, all 60 Semester 2 cadets of the KPNK Study Program at Politeknik Adiguna Maritim Indonesia Medan participated without a separate control group. Quantitative indicators showed improvements in: (a) cadets independently identifying field problems (10% to 72%); (b) analytical questions posed by interrogators (0% to 65%); and (c) presenter confidence ratings (mean 1.8 to 3.4 on a 4-point rubric). Data were collected through participatory observation, field notes, and problem draft documentation. Results indicate significant transformation in cadets' critical reasoning, from only 10% able to identify problems independently to being more analytical in mapping port operational phenomena. The 1:5 interaction technique created "professional pressure" triggering public speaking courage and sharper oral arguments. CLIL integration strengthened maritime literacy through accurate technical terminology use. The 'One-Presenter Five-Interrogators' technique proves effective in building argumentation and negotiation skills needed for industrial work practices and maritime marketing careers.

Abstract

Strengthening Indonesian language equivalents in the digital space is a strategic effort to liberate the Indonesian language amid the dominance of foreign terms. The Instagram account @narabahasa serves as an informal institution that provides accurate and educational linguistic information to bridge the gap between formal language and language practices among the public. This study aims to describe the forms of Indonesian equivalents presented in the texts and visuals posted on the Instagram account @narabahasa, analyze discourse practices in efforts to strengthen Indonesian equivalents, and reveal the socio-cultural implications of the discourse on strengthening Indonesian equivalents. This study uses a qualitative approach with Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis method, including text analysis, discourse practices, and socio-cultural practices. The research data consists of posts and captions from the Instagram account @narabahasa that contain contextual discourse on Indonesian language equivalents. The results of the study show that the @narabahasa account not only functions as a medium for language education but also as a digital medium that plays a significant role in shaping the language awareness of the community. This study reveals that the process of term equivalence in the digital space involves power relations, meaning negotiation, and the construction of linguistic identity within the digital community.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of figurative language in the lyrics of the album Riuh by Feby Putri and to analyze its relevance as an alternative teaching material for literature at the high school level. The methods used in this study include a qualitative approach employing content analysis and descriptive analysis. Data were collected through a literature review by reading, marking, and recording figurative language data in ten songs from the album. The results revealed 28 instances of figurative language classified into three main categories: figures of comparison, including metaphors (7), personification (5), and similes (2); figures of contrast, including paradox (8), hyperbole (3), and apostrophe (1); and figures of repetition in the form of anaphora (2). Further analysis indicates that the song lyrics in the Riuh album meet the criteria for suitability as literary teaching materials based on their poetic yet communicative linguistic aspects, as well as their psychological and cultural aspects that reflect the emotional dynamics of high school-aged adolescents. Thus, this album can be implemented as an alternative literary teaching resource to help students understand various figures of speech in literary texts.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and pragmatic functions of assertive speech acts in digital educational discourse on Edukreatif.id during the 2023–2025 period. The research is motivated by the rapid development of digital educational media that not only disseminate information but also build credibility and legitimacy for educational ideas. Previous studies on assertive speech acts have mainly focused on classroom interactions, instructional videos, and social media, while web-based educational articles have received limited attention. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach within the framework of pragmatics. The data consist of written utterances in Edukreatif.id articles containing assertive speech acts. Data were collected through documentation and note-taking techniques and analyzed using the extralingual pragmatic equivalent method through stages of reduction, categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and theoretical triangulation. The findings show that assertive speech acts on Edukreatif.id are dominated by the forms of stating, reporting, and affirming. These forms function to convey factual information, present educational activity reports, and emphasize the effectiveness of educational programs. The results indicate that assertive speech acts in digital educational discourse not only deliver information but also shape readers’ perspectives on educational issues.

Abstract

This study examines language commodification in the naming of culinary businesses in Sedayu City, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta Timur. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach within the framework of linguistic landscape studies, this research analyzes 124 business naming units displayed on signboards, banners, and tenants, documented between January and March 2025. Data were classified into monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual forms, then interpreted through informational and symbolic functions. The results indicate that monolingual forms account for 64 data points (52%), bilingual forms for 55 (44%), and multilingual forms for 5 (4%). Indonesian remains the strongest informational anchor, while English, along with several regional and foreign languages, serves as a symbolic resource to construct modern, authentic, and exclusive brand identities. These findings suggest that language in this commercial space is no longer merely a tool for communication but has become a marketable resource used to influence consumer perception and increase exchange value. Functional analysis reveals that Indonesian dominates the informational function as a conveyor of factual messages, ensuring consumer comprehension. Conversely, in the symbolic function, the use of English and other foreign languages is leveraged to build a modern image, exclusivity, and brand appeal. Thus, the research findings demonstrate that such naming reflects a negotiation of local-global identities. Local identity is maintained as a root of authenticity, while global elements are adopted as a marketing strategy to enhance market value. Language in Sedayu City has undergone commodification, shifting its function from a mere communicative tool to an economic resource with commercial value within the dynamics of an urban commercial area.

Abstract

Semantics is a branch of linguistics that studies the meanings and relationships among language units, such as words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. This study aims to analyze the lexical and grammatical meanings in the lyrics of the song "Alamak" by Rizky Febian. The study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with text analysis. Data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences in the song lyrics were collected through listening and note-taking, and literature studies, then analyzed using semantic theory. The results of the study show that lexical meaning is evident in words such as "cinta" and "rindu," which have basic meanings, while grammatical meaning emerges through affixation and sentence structure, as in the phrase "terlalu cinta," which conveys intensity. These findings indicate that the combination of lexical and grammatical meanings strengthens the emotional message in the song lyrics.
