Abstract

AbstractHousehold food insecurity is an important issue because of its negative impact on children’s health and nutrition. This study aimed to analyze the effect of working status and family structure on food insecurity in households with children. The data used comes from the 2018 National Socio-Economic Survey. The analysis was carried out separately for poor and non-poor households using binary logistic regression. The results showed that households with heads in part-time work and those with unemployed heads were more likely to be food insecure than households with heads in full-time work in both households, whereas households with heads not in labor force were significantly more likely to be food insecure only in the poor households. In the poor households, single-male headed households were more likely to be food insecure than single-female headed households while in the non-poor households, the opposite occurred. Strengthening social safety nets, expanding employment opportunities and providing education about food insecurity needs to be done in households with children.

On this basis, this study intends to examine the effect of transparency, motivation, culture, and reputation on the decision of Muzakki to pay the zakat at the baitu maal institution. The method of analysis used in this research is a binary logit regression model. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with as many as 66 respondents. The results showed that transparency, motivation, culture, and reputation had a positive and significant effect on the decision of Muzakki to pay zakat at the baitu maal institution. To increase the interest of muzakki to pay zakat through the baitu maal institution, muzakki needs to be motivated to obey in paying zakat. The baitu maal institution is required to improve its reputation through optimizing service quality.

Abstract

AbstractThe increasing number of elderly people in a country can be an indicator of the success of development carried out by the government because of the higher life expectancy in that country. However, the high percentage of the elderly population who are still working in Indonesia is interesting to discuss because more than 10 percent of elderly workers are unpaid workers. This study wants to see the mapping of the distribution of the elderly population as unpaid workers by province in Indonesia using spatial analysis and to see the variables that can affect the chances of an elderly person becoming unpaid workers using logistic regression analysis. The results of the study show that several provinces in Indonesia have a percentage of the elderly as unpaid workers above 15 percent. Of the 8 variables that were considered to affect the chances of the elderly to become unpaid workers, only 5 variables showed a statistically significant effect on the opportunities for the elderly to become unpaid workers. Elderly residents in blue-collar types of work have a 9.32 times higher chance of becoming unpaid workers than elderly people in white-collar types of work. The government needs to formulate appropriate policies in order to create conditions for the elderly population who continue to work but can receive wages and create a work environment that is friendly to the elderly who must continue to work.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to identify the type of damage that often occurs in the product of pastry and bread household industry Masyitah Bakery, as well as analyzing the application of the SQC method in controlling product quality. Data is the primary data obtained from the observation on the site of the pastry and bread business Masyitah Bakery. The sample of data is taken per day within 14 days. Further data is analyzed using the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) method. The first thing to do is to create a Check Sheet, then analyze the types of errors that often occur using Pareto diagrams. After that to see if the production process is still under control, then analysis is done by using the control map. After that the data is analyzed by using a causal diagram to find out the cause of product damage that often occurs. Based on the results of the analysis, then get the result that the most common damage to the production process Masyitah Bakery is burnt defects with a percentage of 44.04 percent, then size defects do not correspond to the percentage of 37.6 percent and the texture defects do not correspond to a percentage of 22.0 percent. The damage caused by the lack of labor, inadequate machinery and raw materials that are not as standard. Judging from the control map formed, the quality of products Masyitah Bakery is still within the control limit. However some points almost close to the control limit line, so it is necessary to control the production process. For example, with more attention to the feasibility of every tool used as well as labor skills employed.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to analyze income inequality in Indonesia at the provincial level. The variables used are the Gini index, inflation, the percentage of poor people, and economic growth. The model used is a regression panel for the period 2012-2018. Estimation results show that inflation has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, poverty has a positive and significant effect on income inequality, while economic growth has a positive but not significant effect on income inequality in Indonesia. Thus, the government should use inflation and poverty alleviation programs as instruments to reduce income inequality in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of minimum wages on the wages of construction workers in the informal sector. Using cross-sectional data consisting of 717 samples from 62 construction projects in 24 provinces in Indonesia, we uncover that the variation of construction worker wages across provinces follows the variation of minimum wages. On the demand variables, the magnitude of GDP and workers productivity in a province is not related to construction workers' earnings. While, on the supply side, the level of formality in a province shows a positive relation to construction workers' wages. In addition, the result also supports the previous literature that the nature of construction workers is moving from one project to another across cities as part-time workers. Lastly, another finding is that the base of estimation price in public procurement for the wage of construction workers is market wage.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to see the causality between the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Poverty Level in Aceh Province. Where to identify whether HDI has an effect on the poverty level or the poverty level which affects HDI more. This study uses Granger Causality analysis and PVAR Modeling to find answers to the research objectives. As well as using regional Panel data for a period of 2015 to 2019. The results show that there is a causal relationship between HDI and poverty levels in Aceh Province. Where the HDI affected negatively the level of poverty. Where it can be used as input for social and population policies of Aceh Province, namely the need to increase development that concentrates on HDI. In addition, it is necessary to know the level of inequality of HDI between regions in Aceh Province considering that HDI can affect the level of poverty.

Abstract

Abstract In the last two decades the trading system in developing countries has become more open with reduced trade barriers through decreasing import tariffs. Based on previous research, there is a theoretical and empirical relationship between the reduction in import tariffs and the demand for labor. This study examines the relationship between the reduction in import tariffs and the demand for formal labor at the district / city level in the medium term. Meanwhile, workers need time to move between sectors and between regions to be absorbed in sectors that are experiencing an increase in exports. Therefore, in analyzing the demand for manufacturing labor due to a reduction in import tariffs, this research is conducted in the medium term, namely in a five-year period. By using data on labor in the manufacturing sector at the district / city level in Indonesia from 2000 to 2015, this study estimates the effect of reducing import tariffs on the demand for formal manufacturing labor with weighted regression. In contrast to previous studies, this study uses the measurement of exposure to the reduction in import tariffs by Dix-Carneiro Kovak (2017) for the manufacturing sector at the district / city level and covers 22 manufacturing subsectors. The estimation results show that the reduction in import tariffs in the manufacturing sector in the medium term increases the demand for formal manufacturing labor. This needs to be supported by the formation of industrial areas with diverse manufacturing sectors. However, this empirical evidence contradicts the policy of forming industrial estates that are specialized with regional superior potential in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 28 of 2008.
