Abstract

Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) is an instructional approach aimed at fostering meaningful understanding by connecting academic content to the real-life contexts of learners. The Paket C equivalency education program is a form of non-formal education equivalent to senior high school, designed for school-age individuals and adults who are unable to continue formal education. This program seeks to equip learners with knowledge, skills, competencies, and attitudes equivalent to high school graduates, enabling them to develop personal, social, intellectual, and vocational capacities. This study aims to describe: (1) the stages of implementing the CTL approach, (2) the application of CTL principles, and (3) the outcomes of CTL implementation in relation to students’ learning interest. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data sources consisted of 10 participants, including 4 tutors and 6 Paket C learners at PKBM Maritim Labuan. The findings indicate that: (1) the stages of CTL implementation include activating prior knowledge, acquiring new knowledge, developing understanding, applying knowledge through practice and experience, and conducting reflection; (2) the implementation of CTL incorporates key principles such as constructivism, questioning, inquiry, learning community, modeling, reflection, and authentic assessment; (3) the CTL approach contributes to an increase in learners’ interest, as evidenced by their enjoyment in learning, increased attention to instructional materials, exercises, assignments, and homework, active participation in question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and group work, as well as the fulfillment of their need to gain knowledge and practical benefits from the learning materials.

Abstract

This study aims to help teachers improve the quality of learning by improving the classroom climate, increasing their ability to carry out classroom action research and writing research articles. This article was written as a report of activities that have been carried out to improve classroom climate, including: 1) preliminary study to ensure the need for improvement in class climate, 2) initial assessment (assessment) to capture classroom climate, 3) Provide feedback to teachers and principals about the difference between the actual classroom climate and the preferred climate of the class (preferred climate) by students, 4) Proposing steps to improve the classroom climate as desired by students. The results showed that in general the actual climate of the class was lower than the preferred climate of the students. However, several scales such as competition, difficulty, and bullying in the preferred climate are generally lower than those experienced by students (actual climate). For this reason, treatment steps are needed to make these scales match what students want.

Abstract

The Arctic region, including the city of Norilsk in Russia, experiences extreme geographical conditions characterized by prolonged periods of daylight and darkness, particularly during summer and winter. These conditions create unique challenges for Muslims in performing prayers (ṣalāh) and fasting (ṣawm), as the timing of these acts of worship is highly dependent on the alternation of day and night. This study aims to analyze Islamic jurisprudential (fiqh) guidelines regarding the adjustment of prayer and fasting schedules applicable to Muslims living in the Arctic region, using Norilsk as a case study. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature review method, the study collected and analyzed various sources, including classical fiqh texts, scholarly fatwas, and guidelines issued by Islamic religious institutions concerning the performance of worship under unusual geographical conditions. The findings indicate that several methods for adjusting prayer and fasting times have been formulated, such as following the schedule of the nearest city with a normal day-night cycle or using the time standards of Mecca and Medina. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the flexibility of Islamic jurisprudence in addressing worship-related challenges in extreme regions and offers recommendations for the Muslim community in Norilsk in selecting appropriate methods. Furthermore, this research serves as a foundation for future studies on the application of fiqh in special geographical contexts.
