Abstract

This study aims to examine how the type, category, and morphologic processes noun Ngaju Dayak language (BDNg). The method used in this research is descriptivequalitative method because the method of this study reflect the reality on the factfindings that is in the field as it is. Thus, the researchers tried to describe objectivelyand precisely the aspects nouns of BDNg in accordance with the conditions of thecurrent BDNg. Data collection is done through two techniques, ie, interviewtechniques and documentation. The findings of this study, that is syntactically, noun ofBDNg can be characterized by traits (a) does not have the potential to join the famousparticle beken 'not', (b) have the potential to be preceded by coal particles bara 'of',(c ) shall be preceded by an adverb degree somewhat (labih 'more' and tutu 'very'),and (e) may be preceded by the adverb that states the amount, as kapucuk ‘one pointand kabatang 'one a'. Based on its shape, noun of BDNg can be distinguished on thebasis nouns and nouns derived. Based on semantic aspects, BDNg noun categoriesdifferentiated into animate and inanimate nouns. Meanwhile, if viewed from the aspectof the process of forming a noun, noun BDNg can be divided into four processes,namely (a) affixation, (b) reduplication, and (c) compounding. Noun formationprocess via affixation BDNg is quite productive and allows formed on the combinationof affixes.

Abstract

The aim of the research is about how to increase the speaking ability of thestudent using Reporting and Presenting method. By using themethod, class’situation can be more active because the student are required to be active inspeaking. Teacher should encourage the student in finding the events andcooperating in the role of reporter and presenter. Teacher should encouragethe student’s creativity in doing the role of Reporting and Presenting inspeaking aspect. The method in this research would be Reporting andPresenting. These methods is effectively applied. The student become active,creative, and attractive when giving the information or the report. The result ofshows that the Reporting and Presenting methods can increase the activitiesand speaking abilities of student of class of IX B3 SMP Negeri 14 Palu. Thestudent’s average point in first cycle 76,04, while in the second cycle becomes85,44.The lower point in the reporting paper in the first cycle is 62,5 whilethehighest is 78,12. It is increasing in the second cycle. The lower becomes 81,25whilethe highest is 96,87. The point of the reporting paper’s presentation inthe first cycle have lowest 62,5 and highest point 87,5 while it is increasing inthe second cycle, the lowest point 75 and the highest is 93,75.

Abstract

Abstract The roles of language use in printed mass media, especially in a daily newspaper,such as in “Radar Sulteng”, are important enough to have been dominant. Thereare some registers and language variations used in it. This research aims to describe the form of English borrowing into Indonesian and to describe the factorsaffected the use of those loanwords. Borrowing can be defined as the transfer oflinguistic materials from English as the source language (SL) into Indonesia as therecipient language (RL) via the agency of speakers for whom the latter is thelinguistically dominant language. This research focus more on the linguistic andsociolinguistic processes underlying borrowing. The linguistic’s insight attemptedto describe some factors of borrowing, those are: there is no sufficient words in RL(Indonesia); giving semantic’s meaning from SL; giving a specific register in RL byimported materials from SL; and adopting of lexical materials along with someovert structural elements into Indonesia. Meanwhile, from sociolinguisticprocesses, there are two reasons determined borrowing, to indicate the personalidentity and to indicate the concept of modernity.

Abstract

The struggle for independence movement grew among youth begins with anawareness of humanism nationality. Novel Bumi Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta Toerand Emilie Jawa 1904 novel is a historical romance that revolves around the youthmovement in the early days of the freedom movement and reveals the humanistconsciousness through both thought the main character of the novel. The movement ofindependence struggle that grew among youths begins with an awareness ofhumanism nationality. Bumi Manusia Novel which is created by Pramoedya AnantaToer and Emilie Jawa 1904 are historical romances that tells about the youthmovement in the early days of the freedom movement and reveals the humanistconsciousness through the thought of both main character of the novel. The methodsof this research is descriptive qualitative method. The purpose is to describe thesimiliarity of Minke and Emilie's thought of humanism in the colony. The result showsthere is a similarity of thought between both characters, which is about theadmiration toward the inspiring of the struggle character also toward the activistsassociation. The differences are Minke distribute his aspirations through writing innewspapers meanwhile Emilie distribute her aspirations with supporting thehumanism movement that is done by the indigene people. Other differences are theviewpoints of Minke as a young man from a colonized country and the viewpoints ofEmilie as a woman from Europe, a colonial country.

Abstract

Abstract This paper is about the description of semantic field of housewares made from clayand stone in Kaili society. The method used in this research was descriptive withrecording and interviewing method. The analysis was processing by grouping,classifying the similar and dissimilar data and classifying the similar but differentdata into another group. The data were analysing into seventeen houseware’svocabularies based on the material and function. Based on the material, there are clayand stone houseware. Based on the function, it can be use as (1) grilling and cookingplace (2) saving, placing (3) grinding, milling (4) illuminating, (5) heating andgrilling, (6) protecting, and (7) sharpening.

Abstract

This study discusses about Banjar proverbs as an education media of positivecharacter in daily life with the aim to describe Banjar proverbs that showspositive character education and becomes a treasures for insight aboutproverb. The method used in this analysis is qualitative descriptive method.From the analysis it is found that positive character education is able form to asuperior human, that is (1) to be an Indonesian who has good morals, attitude,and character. (2) To achieve an intelligent and rational society. (3) In thefuture, Indonesian should become an innovative and progress people. (4)Strengthen the spirit of 'we can', that everyone should find solution in everydifficulties. (5) Indonesian should become the true patriots who love the nation,the state, and their homeland.

Abstract

The study aimed at describing the forms of code switching in thetransaction at traditional market of Manonda in Palu. Data wereanalyzed by employing descriptive method. The data of the study werethe utterances of buyers and sellers in the transaction. The data sourcesof the study were buyers and sellers who conducted the transaction attraditional market of Manonda in Palu. Data were collected byobservation, recording, and note-taking method. The result of the studyrevealed that the transaction at the traditional market of Manonda inPalu conducted by the buyers and sellers contained code switching. Theforms of code switching were Indonesian language to Bugineselanguage and vice versa, Indonesian language to Kaili language andvice versa, Indonesian language to Melayu Manado, and Indonesianlanguage to Javanese language and vice versa.

Abstract

The motifs means an element that is meaningful and that are repeated in one or a number of works. In asingle work, the motive is the meaning of the smallest elemenin the story, while a symbol is a person,object, or event that suggest more than its literal meaning. A literary symbol can include traditional,conventional, or public meaning, but it may also be estabilished internally by the totalcontext of the workin which it appears. A literary symbol can be setting, character, action, object, name, or anything else inwork that maintains its literal significancewhile suggesting other meanings.The problem studied in thisresearch is the study of the psychology literature on the motives and symbols of the existing characters inthe novel The Mayor of Casterbridge. The goal of this research is to discover, collect the fullest thendescribe disclosure motifs and symbols of the existing characters in the novel The Mayor of Casterbridgeis. The method used is the method of the study of literature (literature research), descriptive, and informalmethods. The result of the discussion showed that The Motif novel ofThe Mayor of Casterbridge areCoincidence, The Tension between Tradition and Innovation, and The Tension between Public Life andPrivate Life. The symbolof the existing main character in the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge are Redand Black, Bridge, Five Guineas, The Casterbridge Ring, The Caged Goldfinch, The Bull, and TheCollision of Wagen.

Abstract

One of the phenomena of language contact is interference. Languageinterference can occur at the level of phonology, morphology, sintax, andlexical. This research aims to describe the lexical interference in the locallanguage on the use of Indonesian language by the teenagers in Palu and alsodescribe the lexical factors causing interference local languange intoIndonesian language. The method used is participant’s observation, that is byobservation, recording, and note-taking. The data classified by the types ofinterference and then analyzed by structure. The result shows that the using ofIndonesian language by teenagers in Palu, there is lexical interference, namelylexical interference of local language (mother tongue), lexical interference ofderivative words (Betawi language and Javanese language), and lexicalinterference of foreign language (English). Lexical interference influenced bybilingualism, the low of language loyalty, the prestige of source language andlanguage style, and the influence of mother tongue.

Abstract

Writing is a language skills in addition to language skills, namely reading, speaking,and listening. Writing becomes a difficult activity for elementary school studentsbecause they have not technique to put the idea in the form of writing. Therefore, theformulation of the problem in this study were 1) how elementary school students'ability in writing? and 2) any barriers experienced by students in the writing process?In line with the formulation of the problem, the purpose of this study was 1) todescribe the ability of elementary school students in writing and 2) describe thebarriers experienced by students in the writing process. This study used a qualitativedescriptive method. The study population was a whole bouquet of fourth gradestudents in the form of short stories Magelang . The sample was is a short storywritten by fourth grade students Magelang 6 and fourth grade students Magelang 7.Sampling techniques such as interviews and observation techniques. In addition,researchers conducted tests to assess students' ability to write a short stories. Thisstudy uses data analysis techniques discourse analysis. The results showed that thebiggest obstacles experienced by students is to find an idea and write the first sentencein the beginning of writing. With technical tests, students are able to write essays. Inaddition, the results of the students 'essays featured SD better than the results of thestudents' essays nonunggulan.
