Abstract

The need for nutrients intake during pregnancy is very important to determine the quality of a child in the future. Several micronutrients take a key role for stimulating the immune system . Zinc is the most important one. This study aims to evaluate the effect of multi micronutrient (MMN) on immunoglobulin G levels of the anemic pregnant women in Second trimester, compared to iron folic acid (IFA). A single blind randomized controlled trial was conducted in Surabaya City. The samples size of 30 pregnant women were randomly allocated into two groups or 15 pregnant women in each group. Control group received iron folic acid , and the treatment group received multi micronutrient UNIMMAP formula. Either IFA or MMN was consumed daily for one month. Statistics analysis was done using Chi square test on data (age, education, income), paired t test , independent t test and the data are not normally distributed then use Mann Whitney. The results showed no significant difference in immunoglobulin G level between the two groups. It can be concluded that the administration of multiple micronutrients (MMN) cannot increase immunoglobulin G in pregnant women with anemia, this is probably due to consumption of macro nutrients that are poor compared to daily needs during pregnancy.

Abstract

Hypertension is a state of increasing systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90mmHg on 2 measurements with an interval of 5 minutes in a fairly calm state. Pharmacological management of hypertension refers to the Guideline Joint National Committee (JNC) 8 of 2014. The use of pharmacological therapy can cause problems, one of which is drug interactions. The complexity of using drugs tends to increase drug interactions. In this study, a potential drug interaction study was conducted to determine the magnitude of the potential interactions that might occur between drugs. The method used is descriptive method. The population in this study were medical records of hypertensive drug users diagnosed. Data analysis used univariate data analysis and the use of the Lexicom application. The results of the characteristics of hypertension drug users were 57,69% women and 42,31% men. Characteristics based on age were the youngest age 40 years (0.77%), 74 years old (0.77%) and the average age 61 (9.23%) years. The class of drugs used was 53.71% Calcium Channel Blocker, 28% Angiotensin Receptor Blocker, 8.57% Angiotensin Converting Enzyme, 8% Beta Blocker and 1.71% Diuretic. The severity of hypertension medication was moderate 63.11%, Major 3.88%, minor 33.01%. Based on the results obtained, the majority of women using hypertension drug characteristics were 58% and the average age was 61 (8.9%) years. Abstract

Background and objectives: The spread of HIV / AIDS is still a major worrying problem at this time, not a single country in the world is free from HIV / AIDS. WHO has set a target of 90-90-90 which is expected that by 2020, 90% of people living with HIV will know their status, 90% of all people diagnosed with HIV will receive continuous antiretroviral treatment and 90% of all people who receive antiretroviral treatment obtains HIV viral suppression. The Government of Timor-Leste in its efforts to tackle HIV / AIDS in the future by improving coordination between related sectors in the context of implementing AIDS prevention programs with the hope of achieving targets, namely zero new infection, zero AIDS related death and zero discrimination. This study aims to determine the determinants of the perception of MSM in the use of VCT. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional analytic survey design with men having sex with men (MSM) aged ≥ 18 years as respondents. The study was conducted in Dili Municipality, Timor-Leste. The sample was selected using the convenient sampling method with a total of 150 respondents. Data collected by interview method. Data analysis was performed using logistic regression to determine the Adjusted Odd Ratio of each variable. Results: The results showed that respondents who had tested in the last 1 year were 64.7% and respondents who had never tested in the last 1 year were 35.3%. The results of multivariate analysis with logistic regression showed that the variables associated with VCT utilization were perceived vulnerability (AOR = 14.761; 95% CI = 1.976-110.242; p = 0.009) and information sources (AOR = 0.038; 95% CI = 0.005-0.284; p = 0.001). Conclusion: Perceptions of vulnerability and sources of information are related to the use of VCT in MSM. So it is hoped that health workers will collaborate with NGO administrators to be more active in educating MSM regarding the importance of using VCT through VCT mobile services, using approaches through online media and direct counseling.

Abstract

Tofu is a popular dish in Indonesia. If tofu production increases, it will also increase the produced waste. If the produced waste is not processed properly, it will cause environmental pollution which can cause health problems. One of the commonly used wastewater treatment methods is namely coagulation-flocculation. Aloe vera functions as a biocoagulant because it contains complex carbohydrates and sugars that can bind particles in the water, and contains a coagulant active substance called as mucilago. This research is an experimental research using the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design. Samples of tofu industrial wastewater were taken from the home industry in Janten Village, Ngestiharjo Village, Kasihan, Bantul, DIY. The addition of aloe vera gel as much as 60 ml/L in the tofu industrial wastewater caused a decrease in pH by 11.19%, COD 42.60%, BOD 44.80% and increasing TSS by 8.85%. It shows that aloe vera is effective to reduce COD and BOD in tofu industrial wastewater. Nevertheless, it is not effective to increase the pH of acidic tofu industrial wastewater and decreasing its TSS value.

Abstract

Malaria is a tropical infectious disease with high morbidity and mortality rates. In malaria, various kinds of haematological complications can arise, one of which is thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is most commonly encountered during acute malaria infection with varying degrees observed in both Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax infections. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the types of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax with the degree of thrombocytopenia in malaria patients at the Ratu Aji Putri Botung Penajam Paser Utara Hospital. This research is an observasional analytic study with cross sectional method. The data was taken by using purposive sampling method from the medical records of malaria patients hospitalized in Ratu Aji Putri Botung Penajam Paser Utara Hospital in the period of January 2013 - August 2018. Data analysis used the Chi-square test. Of the 310 malaria patients who were study subjects, 60,3% (n = 187) were infected with Plasmodium falciparum and 39,7% (n = 123) were infected with Plasmodium vivax. Most of the research subjects were male (95,8%) who were dominated by adults (56,5%). As many as 90% of malaria patients experienced thrombocytopenia with mild, moderate, and severe thrombocytopenia respectively 29,4% ; 56,6% ; 14,0%. Severe thrombocytopenia was more common in falciparum malaria patients (16,4%). The statistical test result for the type of Plasmodium with the degree of thrombocytopenia were p = 0,139. It was concluded that there was no relationship between the types of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax with the degree of thrombocytopenia in malaria patients.

Abstract

Abstract: The inflammatory phase occurs immediately after injury and is a very important phase in the wound healing process. Inflammation is a determining phase of whether the wound healing process can continue without prolonged infection, so optimal efforts are needed in wound care so that the wound healing process can run well according to the four phases of healing. This research is a true experimental study with a post-test-only control group design approach. The sampling method used was a randomized control group pre-post-test design of 12 individuals. The statistical test results obtained a p-value = 0.004 which means that at 5% alpha there is a significant difference in the number of leukocytes between the intervention group and the control group. The content of Centella asiatica that plays a role in the inflammatory phase were essential oil and triterpenoid saponins.
