The Review of Primary Care Practice and Education is a bilingual open access journal which provides scientific information on the field of ‘Primary Care’ and ‘Family Medicine’ in the form of research-based scientific articles, case reports, policy briefs and new findings from experts, civitas akademika and medical practitioners. This journal is an official journal of the College of Indonesian Primary Care Physicians in collaboration with the Department of Family and Community Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada, with the inaugural publication in January, 2018. The limited number of scientific journals of primary care and family medicine in Indonesia encouraged the College of Indonesian Primary Care Physicians to create a journal which focuses on the primary care, family and community medical sciences, and to disseminate the information to academics, health practitioners, and the public. This journal contains scientific information on strengthening efforts of primary care, various health problems in primary care, principles of education and family medicine services, and the efforts to create a healthier and prosperous community in Indonesia and the world.

Abstract

Skin disease is one of the public health problems in developing countries such as Indonesia. One of the common skin diseases is scabies, a parasitic infestation that is highly contagious and can cause significant morbidity. Scabies can cause prolonged itching and excoriation, resulting in secondary infection1.Scabies is a skin disease caused by infestation and sensitization of the parasite, Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Scabies is transmitted through several ways, namely direct contact with the skin or indirectly through clothing, bed linen, mattresses, and toiletries. Symptoms that appear are itching and skin eruptions in the form of papules, nodules, and vesicles due to a hypersensitivity reaction2. People who are infected with scabies can transmit it to others even though they do not show symptoms until the infection is successfully treated and the mites and eggs are destroyed3.

Abstract

Background: The condition of prediabetes is still reversible whereas diabetes is irreversible. Prediabetes prevalence continues to increase rapidly worldwide. It is estimated that >470 million people will have prediabetes by 2030. The prevalence and risk factors for the cause of prediabetes in the Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) are not known because there was not enough research and data. Yogyakarta has a high risk of prediabetes because Yogyakarta has the highest level of sugar consumption in Indonesia (16.9%). Objective: This research aimed to analyze the risk factors for prediabetes and identify the most dominant risk factors for prediabetes in primary health care centers at DIY. Methods: This observational, analytical research used a cross-sectional study approach. The population of this research was the population in DIY. The subjects of the research were a group of individuals aged >25 years in Sleman and Bantul who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A sample size estimate of the study was a minimum of 312 patients. The data were analyzed by using chi square and multivariate logistic regression with significance set as p<0.05. Results: The research was conducted in two districts of Sleman and Bantul. The total number of study subjects was 346 and 67people were excluded because they had diabetes. Subjects with hypertension and prediabetes were 20 people and statistically significant with the value of p = 0.001 (Prevalence Ratio (PR) = 3.16 95% CI: 2.85-3.46). Age was also associated with the incidence of prediabetes with p = 0.029. The results of the multivariate logistic regression analysis were p>0.05 was hypertension (p = 0.022, PR 4.239; 95% CI: 0.203-0.962) and central obesity (p = 0.040, PR 5.253; 95% CI: 0.163-0.868). Conclusion: Prediabetes prevalence was 11.1% in the study population. The risk factors associated with the incidence of prediabetes were age, central obesity and hypertension. The most dominant factor was central obesity.

Abstract

Relaxation of PSBB Policy from the Perspective of Community Medicine and Epidemiology in IndonesiaWhen the government will do something meaningful and full of uncertainty, such as relaxation of the PSBB, it needs to be done based on a plan with uncertainty, namely scenario planning. In scenario development, four stages must be carried out, namely identifying the driving forces and critical uncertainties. Some scenarios then create a path for how a plan will travel.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization has declared that COVID-19 is a global pandemic. To prevent its spread, academic activities in Indonesia have been shifted to distance learning methods. This change resulted in students having to adapt to these new methods and deal with the additional stress. The inability of students to adapt contributed to the new conditions causing the additional stress. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the effect of online teaching and learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic on stress at the Faculty of Medicine, Ciputra University, Surabaya Indonesia. Methods: The quantitative method used was in the form of analytical observations with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents consisted of 63 people, selected using simple random sampling. Data analysis used linear regression tests to determine the effect of the second variable. Results: The results showed that there was no significant effect (p= 0.052) between Online Teaching and Learning Activities During the COVID-19 Pandemic Period on Stress in the Medical Faculty Students, Ciputra University, Surabaya, Indonesia. Students have started to become accustomed to the strategies to deal with the additional stress and its effects. Other supporting factors in the implementation of online learning are flexibility, time efficiency, low learning costs, and learning materials which can be accessed at any time with technological applications, using simple storage of learning materials. Conclusions: There was no significant influence found from the online learning on student stress.

During the COVID pandemic, all social and physical activities of each individual are limited. Physical-social distancing or physical restrictions have an impact on mental health and psychological problems. This anxiety is also experienced by medical students as Co-Assistants (young doctors) during their education in hospitals. Objectives: This study aimed to discuss matters related to the impact of the COVID-19 on medical students’ mental health during the pandemic. Method: This cross-sectional study used the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20. Mental health problems of college students during the pandemic were assessed and analyzed for their level of anxiety. This study involved 69 medical students as Co-Assistants (young doctors) in the professional study program using purposive sampling technique. Results: The results of the study found that among Co-Assistants who underwent clinical clerkship during the COVID-19 pandemic as much as 44.9% experienced mental health disorders. We also found that the female Co-Assistants were twice as likely to experience mental health problems as male Co-Assistants. The most common type of mental health problem was experiencing symptoms of depression. Conclusion: During the two years of the pandemic, while living the ‘new normal’, Co-Assistants felt the fear of being infected with the lack of personal protective equipment, economic problems for their parents, and facing the challenges of distance education. In comparing the mental health problems of the Co-Assistants, the most common during the COVID-19 pandemic were the symptoms of depression.

Abstract

Congenital Hypothyroid Screening (CHS) is a screening test performed on neonates to detect Congenital Hypothyroidism (CH). Screening is important to prevent delays in the diagnosis and management of CH. Until now,    Indonesia does not have data on the result representation of national and regional CH based on regional topography. This descriptive research used a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted at the Public Health Office of Bandar Lampung. This research used the secondary data of the incidence of CHS, CHS service provider health facilities, and babies born alive in May-October 2019. The results’ representation is then grouped by subdistrict and topography of the region (tidal, choppy to wavy, and hilly to mountainous). The number of CH incidents was highest in Panjang District (235 data) and there was no CHS data in Enggal Subdistrict. The result representation was the highest in Tanjung Karang Timur District (41%). An overview of the result representation by sub- district was obtained by 18%. Overview of the result representations were in tidal topographic areas with 24%, choppy to wavy had a percentage of 18%, and the lowest hilly to mountainous areas had 15%. The topographical areas that have the highest  result representation of CHS results are tidal areas, while the lowest are hilly to mountainous areas.
