This study aims to discuss the efforts that can be made to increase students' motivation to learn English related to speaking skills in online learning during the pandemic. In this study, researchers are expected to provide information related to student motivation in carrying out learning related to speaking skills through online learning and the role of the teacher as a material deliverer who can provide more effective learning speaking material to students. By using the secondary data collection method, researcher uses related previous findings with research being written regarding increasing students' motivation in learning speaking skills during online learning. The specific purpose of this research is to help teachers to be able to find out what factors and media can help increase students' motivation in learning speaking skills. The findings of this study reveal that motivation becomes an important role in the process of students learning speaking skills through online learning, by using the right media students can pay more attention to the material presented. Technological advances provide vast opportunities for second language learners to access various materials and methods to learn languages. In Indonesia, the 4.0 revolution creates numerous opportunities for educational innovation, especially in learning English as a foreign language (EFL). This study aims to reveal how a student's gaming experience can help him in mastering English vocabulary. The study used a Narrative Inquiry design to explore student's experience in playing video games that provide an alternative way of acquiring English vocabulary. Semi-structured interviews were used to explore student's learning experiences. Based on the thematic analysis, qualitative data showed that the student's learning experience has several positive impacts on the student's vocabulary acquisition. In addition, this study also revealed that the Role-Playing Game (RPG) and Story Rich genres greatly influenced the student's vocabulary acquisition. The aims of this study is to determine the five types of deixis used by Stephen Colbert in his speech at the Wake Forest Graduating Class of 2015. In this study, qualitative descriptive methods was applied and video was choosen as the instrument of data collection. This data were analyzed based on deixis types suggested by Levinson (1983) and Yule (1996).The type of deixis most frequently used by Stephen Colbert in his speech was a person deixis totaling 232 words dominated by the word ‘I am’. Time deixis 26 words, place deixis nine words, discourse deixis 48 words, and social deixis 34 words. With a total of 349 frequencies found in all five types of deixis in Stephen Colbert's commencement speech.Keywords: Pragmatic, deixis, speech.

The research was carried out in order to know the students perception of scientific writing class on their learning gains. The sample were taken based on random technique. This research used quantitative approach. The research design of this study was survey research. These reserach subjects were 105 participants in semester 6th and 8th students English Education study program. The data were analyzed using Ms. Excel and SPSS 24 Program. The data in this research collected by using questionnaire as main instrument. The result of the study got 90% integrate sources, 89% research 86% structure, 91% feedback, 85% technique, 87% review, 81% research plan. This research showed that students gave positive responses with very good category of the scientific writing course on their learning gains to improve students writing skills. Most of the students in the scientific writing class have studied all the materials, strategies, and students are able to understand the writing tasks that have been given by the lecturer in improving scientific writing skills such as writing essays, abstracts, and thesis proposals. The respondents agree that the scientific writing is a learning material that affects the progress student of learning gains in writing scientific papers. Vocabulary knowledge is known as an essential element in language learning to support four language skills listening, speaking, reading and writing. Indeed, many known ways to encourage and help language learner to keep tract vocabulary development. However, little is known for keeping vocabulary using vocabulary log. Hence, the present study conducted to explore how English language learners’ engagement in using vocabulary log. Three participants, were student teachers who majoring English education, involved in this study. The study employed a narrative inquiry design, and conducted a semi-structured interview to reveal student teachers’ experience. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The result of the present study showed two aspects of student teachers’ engagement in using vocabulary log for vocabulary learning and teaching: (1) linguistic (expansion of their vocabulary development where participants as learners) and (2) pedagogical (internalization of the tool and their readiness to adopt vocabulary log in class where participants as future teachers). Keywords: Vocabulary Log, Learning Vocabulary, Teaching Vocabulary

Based on the phenomena that students have difficulties in writing descriptive text, the students could not write because they do not have any ideas when they are asked to write. So, they need some ways which could help them in writing. The problems in writing can be solved by implementing some strategies in teaching writing. This research aims at knowing the use of PPP (Presentation, Practice and Production) in teaching writing to the eighth grade students. This research is qualitative research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of one junior high school in Cimahi in the academic year of 2020 – 2021 which consisted of 31 students. The writer used a questionnaire to collect data. These findings reveal that the use of PPP (Presentation, Practice and Production) techniques in teaching writing in the classroom can improve students' writing abilities in the classroom. Based on the result of questionnaire the use of PPP (Presentation, Practice and Production) one of the right way to teach writing. It means that using make a match method was effective, and easier to be applied in teaching writing descriptive text. English is a language that is found in all fields of Education, which makes English as a language skill that must be mastered by students. There are four skills in learning English namely; reading, writing, speaking and listening. Reading comprehension is one of the skills which is important to develop by all learners because by reading people can improve their knowledge. The problems were the students had poor vocabulary. The researcher applies (CTL) Contextual Teaching Learning approach, to help students understand English-language reading. The objectives of this research entitled “the implementation of contextual teaching-learning approach in teaching reading comprehension to analytical exposition text” was to found out the implementation of the scenario and the students' responses in teaching-learning reading comprehension. This study used descriptive qualitative as a research design. The subject of this research was the grade XI of students’ senior high school in Cimahi consisted of 20 students. The results of this research showed CTL was successfully implemented based on scenarios prepared by the researchers. Using CTL was able to improve students' motivation in learning reading comprehension. It was expressed by students and teachers in the observation sheets and questionnaires. The flipped classroom is a relatively recent method of the teaching-learning process. Based on the current pandemic of COVID-19, a flipped classroom is one of the suitable learning models to use. It aims to improve student engagement and performance by bringing technology to the teaching-learning process outside of the classroom. However, the flipped classroom model is not widely used in Indonesia. This study discusses instructors' perspectives on using the flipped classroom concept in teaching writing. The subjects of this study were six Senior High School English teachers that used the flipped classroom to teach writing for the twelfth grade of Senior High School. The data were collected by using an open questionnaire and unstructured interview. The researchers provide the data by using a descriptive qualitative approach. This research shows that the flipped classroom is one of the modern learning models with several benefits and facilitates the teacher and the students in the teaching-learning process. The teachers can use the material they have prepared (in videos, PowerPoint, or modules) to teach several classes while the students have an opportunity to be more independent and active in learning because of their high curiosity. The aim of this paper is to get an overall understanding of indirect speech acts found in some utterances that was delivered by the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil. This research used qualitative descriptive method to get a deep and holistic understanding about indirect speech acts found in some State Address of the Governor. This research is a qualitative description research. The source of the data in this study is the utterance spoken by West Java governor, Ridwan Kamil. The data analysis technique in this study used pragmatics as the study of speaker meaning as distinct from word or sentence meaning. Based on the data analysis, it can be considered that there are two forms of illocuotionary speech acts that is used. First, the form of illocutionary speech acts found in this speech are categorized as declarative, imperative, and interrogative. Second, the type of illocutionary speech acts found are assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive. It shows that the speech that was delivered by Ridwan Kamil is very well prepared. In sum, speech act theory is needed in the philosophy of language not only because it has demonstrated a wide variety of meaningful uses of language, but also for generating insights into underlying problems. Reading is an activity to obtain information from a text. Reading a text is not easy, it requires an understanding to get a meaning. The objective of the research was to identify the implementation of the scenario in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text using the Student Team Achievement Division and to find out students’ responses. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was tenth-grade students of Vocational High School in Cimahi. The data were collected by using observation, questionnaires, and documents. The results of the research were the implementation of STAD in teaching reading comprehension was appropriated with the learning scenario. In the implementation of STAD in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text got a good response from students. By using STAD on English study could increase students' reading comprehension, students were motivated and involved in the active learning process. In addition, students felt learning was fun and not boring. STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) was suitable in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text at the tenth-grade students.
