Abstract

This research aims to determine the students’ math problem-solving ability according to the students’ initial ability category. The subjects of this study were randomly selected and obtained 3 students of class VIII in one of the junior high schools in Tambun Selatan, Bekasi. The method used is descriptive qualitative with interactive model data analysis from Miles & Huberman. The instrument used is the 2011 TIMSS question as a test of students' mathematical problem solving abilities in terms of initial abilities and semi-structured interviews to the 3 students. The indicator of mathematical problem solving ability used is the Polya indicator which consists of understanding the problem, device a plan, carry out the plan and looking back. The results showed that students with low initial abilities had not been able to pass the four indicators of problem solving abilities. Students with intermediate initial ability can pass two problem-solving ability indicators, while students with high initial ability can pass three problem-solving ability indicators

Abstract

This research describes students' difficulties in learning mathematics, the research was conducted at SMPN 1 CIHAMPELAS class IX with the material  build  room  side  flat  assisted by google classroom. The approach  in this research  uses a  qualitative  approach. The instrument used is a description test which amounts to 7 questions with different difficulty levels collected through google classroom. Google Classroom is a learning application released by Google. The ease of access via computers and mobile phones is very beneficial for teachers and students in schools. The goal is to describe blended learning, google classroom as an alternative in learning, and blended learning through google classroom. difficulty in calculating the surface area of a cube, as many as 33.34% of students have difficulty in calculating the surface area of a prism, as many as 33.60% of students have difficulty in calculating the surface area of a pyramid, as many as 11.12% of students have difficulty in calculating the volume of a cuboid, 20.75% of students still have difficulty in calculating the volume of a prism, and as many as 57.78% of students had difficulty solving problems involving the diagonal of the space, the diagonal of the plane, and the diagonal of the plane.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the student's mathematical concept errors when solving problems of the polygon. The method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach to describe the results of the analysis of the errors made by students. The research subjects were students of SMP class IX in one of the schools in West Bandung and totaled 30 people. The research instrument is 6 descriptive questions. The results showed that students' errors in numbers 1 and 2 were in a low category, questions numbered 3 and 4 were in the medium category, while questions numbered 5 and 6 were in the high category. Conceptual errors made by students are (1) errors in determining the formula to be used; (2) formula writing error; (3) errors in determining and substituting data into variables; (4) errors in determining the relationship between BRSD concepts. Factors that cause: less thorough in understanding the problem, wrong in analyzing the problem, error in performing calculation operations, not re-checking the answers. With these results, the solution that can be given is that teachers can better teach concepts by utilizing approaches, methods, strategies, and learning media that are tailored to the material and needs of students.

Abstract

This research study is a classroom action research which four stages namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting in two cycles. This research aims to provide information about the solution of the problems faced by teachers and students in online math learning in the classroom to improve the ability of teachers and students so that several cycles are carried out. This research was conducted on students of class VIII as many as 36 students. The data obtained was presented in two ways, qualitatively and quantitatively. Data were taken from observation and straigh line equation. The results of this research showed that scientific approach with animation video media were effective can increase mathematics learning achievement, the results of the observations showed positivity and good responses from the students.  The improvement can be seen by the rise in the students’ mean percentage in the test results: 52% in the first cycle and 82% in the second cycle. The mean difference achievement results from the first cycle test to the second cycle test, which is 30%. Based on the criteria for the success rate of the action, it can be concluded that the quality of mathematics online learning use a scientific approach assisted by animation video in straight line equation subject in very good criteria.

Abstract

This research is a classroom action research. The problem formulated in this research is whether the use of SPLDV material tutorial teaching modules can help improve the understanding of junior high school students in one school in the city of Cimahi? The purpose of this study was to examine the understanding ability of grade VIII junior high school students using tutorial teaching modules during online learning. The target indicator in this study is the result of each cycle test which shows an understanding of the concept of the SPLDV material. This research procedure consists of: (1) planning, (2) implementing the action, (3) observation and evaluation, and (4) reflection. The results of this study indicate that the understanding of the concept of the SPLDV material for class VIII junior high school students at one junior high school in the city of Cimahi has increased from the test results tested with an average value that continues to increase each cycle, namely in cycle 1 74.7 to 78.5 in the cycle. 2 and becomes 93.6 in cycle 3.

Abstract

The learning system that was originally carried out at school became a long distance learning system at home which resulted in changes to student learning outcomes, especially in the derivative of trigonometic function. Students' limitations in understanding about derivative of trigonometric function became students’ learning obstacle during the pandemic. This study aims to analyze the epistemological obstacle of high school students in the derivative of trigonometric function during the pandemic. This study use qualitative method with case study design. The subjects of this study were 23 students of grade XII of Senior High School in Cirebon City and Garut Regency. Data collected by using test and semi-structured interview. Technical analysis of data using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students experienced an Epistemological Obstacle related to solving derivative problems of trigonometric functions, seen from students' errors in deriving basic trigonometric functions, derivatives in the form of multiplication, chain derivatives and derivatives involving mixed algebraic and trigonometric forms as well as errors in determining derivatives at a certain point.

Abstract

Algebraic thinking skills are very important to be mastered by students, by thinking algebra students can better understand and solve problems that occur in daily life, especially problems related to the form of algebra. The research aims to analyze and describe the algebraic thinking ability of junior high school students in solving problems in SPLDV material. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Karawang Barat School Year 2020/2021, with the subject of the study as many as 30 junior high school students in grade VIII. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, with instruments in the form of description tests as many as 2 SPLDV questions and documentation. The data analysis techniques in this study were conducted by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. From the results of the study found that there are still many students who have not been able to meet the Graduate Competency Standards that indicate that students' algebraic thinking ability is still low, it is due to the lack of understanding of students about the concept of algebra. Evidently, from 2 points of algebra thinking given to students obtained percentage data of 20% of students thinking high algebra, 16.67% of students thinking moderate algebra and 13.33% of students thinking low algebra.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how big the level of student error when solving mathematical problems on exponential material based on the type of Newman error in class X MIPA 1 SMA At-Taubah Tirtamulya which consisted of several types of errors including (1) errors due to lack of accuracy or carelessness, (2) errors in process skills, (3) errors in understanding questions, (4) errors in notation, and (5) errors in concept. There were 20 students during the research and then 5 subjects were selected for analysis and interviews. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This study uses data collection techniques in the form of description tests and interviews. This study uses data analysis techniques, namely reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The result of the study found that students errors when working on exponential material problems with the types of errors due to lack of accuracy or carelessness, errors in process skills, errors in understanding questions, and errors in using notation were classified as very low, while the types of errors in concept were classified as moderate. The type of student error that the researchers found the least in this study was notational error, while errors in concepts were the most common errors found in this study.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student errors in solving math problems in algebraic material. The algebra questions tested have been compiled based on Bloom's taxonomy. The indicators in each question contain various abilities that exist in Bloom's taxonomy, such as the ability to calculate, relate, conceptualize, investigate and others. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class VII-B SMP Marga Utama Padalarang. Many samples in this study were 20 students consisting of 10 male students and 10 female students. The items tested are 5 items with the type of essay questions. Based on the results of data analysis in the form of a test consisting of 5 algebraic essay questions, it shows that there are differences in the errors made by male students and female students. The most errors in solving algebra questions were made by male students, as many as 70%. The error is because students are accustomed to practice questions given by teachers not using Bloom's taxonomy when designing the questions. In other words, students are only used to the same questions as the example questions explained by the teacher before. As a result, students find it difficult when solving algebra problems that have been designed using Bloom's taxonomy and end up making many mistakes when answering the questions.

Abstract

Mathematical representation skills are very important for students, because with the ability of representation students can understand a concept or problem and turn it into a concrete form. This study describes the ability of mathematical representation of junior high school students in solving problems in rectangular materials, a question that was given adopted from a government book entitled Mathematics smp grade VII Semester 2 Revised Edition 2017. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kotabaru School Year 2020/2021. The study also used descriptive qualitative methods in the next category of student mathematical representation test results on quadrilateral-related questions through a categorization system based on average grades and deviation standards after which they were divided into high, medium and low categories. The results of this article will present students' answers on the question of mathematical representation based on three indicators, namely verbal, image and symbolic representations.
