Abstract

This study aims to analyze a collection of previous research through a meta-analysis that investigates the effect of using digital-based learning media on students' critical thinking skills. This analysis is important because many students still exhibit limitations in critical thinking abilities. The articles included were obtained using Publish or Perish 8 with publication years ranging from 2015 to 2025, resulting in 23 data points from 21 selected articles. Several moderator factors considered in this meta-analysis include educational level, year of publication, and source of publication. The results regarding the influence of digital-based learning media on students' critical thinking skills are as follows: (1) there is a significant overall effect with an effect size (ES) of 1.086 (categorized as high); (2) the effect is more effective when used at the elementary school level or equivalent (ES = 1.7396, high category) based on educational level; (3) the influence is greater in the post-COVID-19 period (ES = 1.1504, high category) based on year of publication; and (4) a greater effect is found in articles published in conference proceedings (ES = 1.3627, high category) based on publication source.

Abstract

Many students struggle to understand length measurement, especially when solving real-life story problems. This reflects weak mathematical connection skills. Furthermore, students’ reluctance to collaborate with peers indicates a low cooperative learning profile. To address this issue, this study examines the impact of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model, supported by the traditional game gatrik, on students’ mathematical connection skills and cooperation profile. A sequential explanatory mixed-method approach was used. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, observations, and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using t-tests, while qualitative data were examined using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, combined with Yin’s time series analysis. The results show that the TGT model with gatrik significantly improves both mathematical connection skills and cooperative behavior. This study provides insights for teachers to strengthen students’ mathematical and social competencies and serves as a reference for future research on cooperative learning and contextual media in education.

Abstract

Students in mathematics education programs often face challenges that require strong self-belief and the ability to manage their own learning in order to achieve optimal academic performance. This study investigates the influence of self-efficacy and self-regulated learning on students’ Grade Point Average (IPK), focusing on three objectives: (1) the direct effect of self-efficacy on IPK, (2) the direct effect of self-regulated learning on IPK, and (3) the indirect effect of self-efficacy on IPK mediated by self-regulated learning. A quantitative approach with path analysis was employed, involving 40 Mathematics Education students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via validated and reliable questionnaires, and analyzed using SPSS and SMART-PLS v.4. The results indicate that the direct influence of self-efficacy on IPK is weak and statistically insignificant. In contrast, self-regulated learning shows a significant and meaningful direct effect on IPK. Furthermore, self-efficacy strongly influences self-regulated learning, which in turn positively affects IPK, confirming an indirect relationship. It is concluded that fostering both self-belief and regulatory learning strategies is essential to improving academic outcomes in higher education.

Abstract

Students' low numeracy skills in understanding integer concepts often lead to misconceptions that frequently undetected, as they are embedded within students' cognitive processes rather than solely visible in final answers. This study aims to detect students' misconceptions in integer topics by analyzing their thinking processes using Mason's framework, based on their numeracy levels. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, involving six seventh-grade students from class VII at MTsN 8 Muaro Jambi. The subjects were classified into three numeracy categories: high, medium, and low. Data were collected through think-aloud-based diagnostic tests, in-depth interviews, and observations during problem-solving sessions. Data were then analyzed using Mason’s stages of thinking. The results showed that all students experienced theoretical and correlational misconceptions, while classification misconceptions were found only among students with low numeracy levels. Most errors occurred in the attack and review stages. Mason’s thinking framework proved effective in systematically identifying the location and type of misconceptions and provides a foundation for designing more targeted and responsive numeracy-based instructional strategies.

Abstract

Problems experienced by students include low understanding of mathematical concepts and lack of learning motivation. This study aims to examine the extent to which the Think Pair Square (TPS) cooperative learning model can be a solution to improve both aspects. This study design is a quasi-experimental study with two groups: an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through a mathematical concept understanding test and a learning motivation questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using a paired t-test, N-Gain calculation, and descriptive analysis using a Likert scale. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the understanding of mathematical concepts and learning motivation of students in the experimental group. The application of collaborative learning strategies has been proven to help students build a deeper understanding of concepts and increase their engagement in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

University students are required to possess critical thinking skills to face the challenges of the 21st century. However, preliminary observations of first-semester students in the Mathematics Education Program at STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa indicate that their critical thinking skills remain low. To address this issue, the flipped learning model was implemented. This study aims to develop flipped learning-based teaching materials to foster students’ critical thinking skills. The research employs a development approach using the Four-D (4D) model, limited to the product validity testing stage. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, observations, interviews, and tests. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results show that the developed teaching materials include activities aligned with 12 critical thinking indicators and support independent learning. Validation by three experts indicated a validity level of 92.80%, categorized as highly valid. This module can be used in early-semester learning as a means to enhance students’ critical thinking skills and independent learning abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to identify learning obstacles and develop a Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) for teaching the concept of similarity in Grade VII. The research is part of Didactical Design Research at the prospective analysis stage. Data were collected through textbook review, analysis of instructional materials, curriculum documents, diagnostic tests, and interviews with teachers and students. Analysis techniques include qualitative analysis, descriptive statistics, and data triangulation. Findings reveal types of learning obstacles: (1) ontogenetic, low conceptual readiness; (2) epistemological, inability to relate ratios to similarity conditions, compare corresponding sides, and make sketches; and (3) didactic, materials that lack explicit explanation of similarity conditions, offer few contextual activities, and focus on procedures. Based on these findings, the HLT includes three goals: informal recognition of similarity, identifying similar triangles based on conditions, and solving contextual problems through exploratory activities, group discussion, and real-life contexts. The study implies that systematic identification of learning obstacles is essential for designing more adaptive and meaningful instructional interventions.
