Abstract

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has long been a significant issue in global politics, with its effects reaching beyond the Middle East. This study examined the origins of the conflict, the roles of various international organizations in peace mediation, and the impact on Africa's international relations, particularly its economic and political dimensions. Using a historical approach, the study analyzed the conflict's genesis, effects, and Africa's involvement, employing secondary data sources to explore how the conflict influences Africa, its stance, and potential strategies for resilience. The study utilized realist theory to provide an analytical framework. It concluded that resolving the conflict is essential for Africa to fully leverage its natural resources and enhance its security and economic stability. The study recommends that African nations adopt a unified position within the African Union, advocating for peaceful solutions and adherence to international law to bolster their global diplomatic influence. African nations should also, take on a more proactive role in international mediation, reinforcing peacebuilding institutions to enhance global peace and security efforts.

Abstract

This study explores the optimization of micro influencer utilization in digital advertising campaigns conducted by BIGBANG Agency on the TikTok platform. The main issue addressed is the selection process of micro influencers to ensure maximum impact on clients' advertising efforts, emphasizing the importance of trustworthiness, expertise, and attractiveness. Employing a qualitative approach and a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the agency and selected micro influencers. The source credibility theory serves as the primary analytical framework. The findings reveal that BIGBANG Agency selects micro influencers based on honesty, audience engagement levels, content quality, and the alignment of appearance and communication style with the product’s character. The agency also allows creative freedom, enabling influencers to produce authentic yet campaign-aligned content. Open, flexible, and collaborative communication strategies are key to creating genuine and relevant content, which enhances audience trust and promotes campaign effectiveness. The study's limitation lies in its single-object focus and descriptive nature without quantitative effectiveness measurement. Future research should include multiple agencies for a more comprehensive comparison and adopt a quantitative approach to evaluate campaign performance more accurately.

Abstract

Maritime piracy is a significant concern for Nigeria's economy, local development, and national security, particularly in Bayelsa State, which is a key port site in the Gulf of Guinea. The national and international efforts of all parties involved have not led to an improvement in the situation, and maritime piracy continues to threaten economic opportunities, national security, and the livelihoods of individuals. This study examined the deeper and proximate sources of maritime piracy in Bayelsa, focusing on the legal and policy responses required for effective policymaking. Using a cross-sectional survey design and a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 300 respondents across the Brass, Otuoke, Nembe, and Ogbia Local Government Areas, employing cluster sampling methods. The quantitative data were descriptively analyzed using SPSS Version 25, and ANOVA and Spearman's Rank Correlation tests were used to test the hypotheses. The results established the links between maritime insecurity and youth unemployment, environmental degradation, poverty, and weak institutional governance. The research utilizes Relative Deprivation Theory (RDT) to demonstrate how feelings of inequality can foster resentment, and it employs Frustration–Aggression Theory (FAT) to illustrate how frustrated aspirations may lead to aggression and violence, especially the clear relationship between feelings of marginalization and piracy. Additionally, the study backs the shift away from militaristic, reactionary solutions to inclusive, preventative, and developmental responses to global piracy in the region.  Ultimately, achieving enduring peace in the Bayelsa maritime corridor requires a multi-stakeholder strategy that incorporates human security as a key ethical consideration in the formulation and implementation of policies.

Abstract

This study explores the representation of animism and spiritualism in Sintren Dance through the perspective of cultural communication. Sintren is a traditional Javanese dance performance rooted in mystical beliefs, particularly involving ancestral spirits and the spirit realm. The study aims to identify the role of Sintren Dance as a medium of cultural communication that conveys deeply embedded values of animism and spiritualism. A qualitative method with an ethnography of communication approach was employed. Data were gathered through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, including photos and video recordings. The research focuses on three communities in the northern coastal region of Central Java: Paguyuban Sintren Sekar Arum (Tegal), Paguyuban Sintren Satria Nada (Brebes), and Paguyuban Sintren Satria Budaya (Pemalang). Findings reveal that Sintren functions as a symbolic channel of communication involving sacred objects (incense, chicken cages, black glasses, shawls, and flowers) that represent animism. Spiritualism is reflected in the ritual use of mantras and the belief in spirit possession, where the dancer enters a trance. The pawang acts as a spiritual intermediary, while the dalang manages the performance. The saweran tradition and audience interaction also reflect deep emotional and spiritual engagement. Ultimately, Sintren is more than entertainment—it is cultural heritage and spiritual expression that communicates ancestral values across generations.

Abstract

Nigeria’s intergovernmental fiscal framework, particularly the State Joint Local Government Account (SJLGA), has long been criticised for undermining local autonomy and impeding grassroots development. This study examines how the SJLGA affects the fiscal independence and service delivery capacity of local governments. Drawing on thematic content analysis of scholarly articles, constitutional documents, audit reports, and empirical studies published between 2000 and 2024, the research identifies core themes shaping local governance outcomes. Findings reveal that the SJLGA fosters financial dependency, enabling state governments to control local allocations and impose political influence, often through caretaker committees. This centralisation reduces transparency, encourages resource misallocation, and leads to elite capture, where funds serve political interests rather than local development priorities. The analysis further shows that constitutional ambiguities and weak institutional safeguards exacerbate these problems, leaving local governments unable to fulfil essential mandates in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The study argues that these systemic constraints contradict the principles of fiscal federalism and Local Government Theory, which advocate for subsidiarity and citizen-focused governance. To reverse these trends, it recommends constitutional reform to guarantee direct statutory transfers to local governments, the creation of independent oversight mechanisms, and strengthened democratic safeguards to ensure accountability. By highlighting the disconnect between constitutional intent and practical outcomes, this research underscores the urgent need to realign Nigeria’s fiscal architecture to empower local governments as true drivers of grassroots development and democratic accountability.

Abstract

Background: Many countries are leveraging the strength of the youth population to advance their socio-economic development, while the internet, exploited mostly by the age bracket, is one of the most lucrative platforms for businesses and social transactions across the world today. However, it is fast becoming the safest avenue for cybercrime thriving in Nigeria, largely perpetrated by the youth population and underscored chiefly by a high level of poverty as the push factor.  Aim: The study's overarching objective is to investigate how poverty has contributed to the youth's vulnerability to committing cybercrime in the Ikorodu local government of Lagos State, Nigeria, between 2015-2023.  Method: The study adopts a descriptive survey design to analyze the retrieved 251 questionnaires out of 399 administered to youth in the Ikorodu local government of Lagos state via a cluster sampling technique. Findings: The findings reveal that youths' limited access to economic opportunities, socio-economic inequalities, and lack of cybercrime awareness are core contributors to their impoverishment, heightening their susceptibility to indulge in cybercrimes. Conclusion: The research concluded that poverty largely contributed to youth vulnerability to cybercrimes in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Network-Centric Warfare (NCW)-based defence strategies on military effectiveness in countering asymmetric threats. Focusing on three critical dimensions—Information and Communication Integration, Command-and-Control (C2) Interoperability, and Adaptive & AI-Capable NCW Systems—the research adopts a quantitative methodology using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to assess their influence. Asymmetric threats, characterized by unpredictable, unconventional tactics, require military forces to adapt rapidly and operate with high coordination. The findings indicate that NCW-based strategies significantly enhance military capabilities in terms of responsiveness, adaptability, and operational coordination. The integration of real-time information and communication technologies enables better situational awareness and informed decision-making. C2 interoperability ensures seamless collaboration among units and branches, while adaptive systems enhanced with artificial intelligence provide strategic advantages in dynamic conflict environments. This study highlights the importance of transitioning from traditional, platform-centric models to network-enabled operations, thereby enabling effective responses to contemporary security challenges. The empirical evidence supports the strategic value of NCW in enhancing combat readiness and operational performance. By validating these relationships, the study contributes to the body of knowledge on defence innovation. It offers practical insights for military planners and policymakers in strengthening national security through technology-driven strategies.

Abstract

Tari Bada Hatam Betawi by Wiwiek Widyastuti is a performing arts piece of high aesthetic value, reflecting the richness of Betawi culture through its unique movements and expressions. This article aims to examine the aesthetics of Tari Bada Hatam Betawi from a philosophical perspective, particularly focusing on the aesthetics of culture and art. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, involving an in-depth analysis of the movement structure and the dance's meaning. The analysis results indicate that Tari Bada Hatam Betawi is not merely a form of artistic expression but also a means to communicate the philosophical values of Betawi life, such as balance, harmony, and simplicity. Through a semiotic study, it reveals that Tari Bada Hatam is multi-layered. This means the dance not only displays movements and aesthetics but also holds complex and profound symbolic values and meanings. Furthermore, Wiwiek Widyastuti's work reflects the integration of tradition and innovation, making it relevant in the context of contemporary performing arts. This research is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of Betawi dance aesthetics and the application of a philosophical approach to traditional performing arts.

Abstract

The phenomenon of GPA inflation in Indonesian higher education reflects a complex social issue, where academic grades often fail to represent intellectual capacity and instead emerge as products of power relations between lecturers and students. This paper analyzes how symbolic power within academic spaces cultivates a culture of compliance and strategic adaptation among students in pursuit of cum laude honors. Employing a theoretical-critical approach and Michel Foucault’s discourse analysis, the study reveals that academic assessment systems frequently function as instruments of power reproduction, reinforcing academic feudalism and suppressing critical expression. High GPAs, in this context, are often symbolic compromises rather than genuine intellectual achievements. The findings suggest that social structures in universities shape students into submissive, administratively efficient individuals with limited intellectual courage—ultimately undermining the emancipatory function of higher education. This paper calls for academic decolonization to establish egalitarian dialogue, transparent grading systems, and a redefinition of respect (adab) as a foundation for critical and ethical discourse in education.
