Abstract

This study examines emotional management toward social validation through intrapersonal communication from a Stoic perspective among Generation Z in Tegal City. The study is motivated by individuals’ tendency to evaluate themselves based on recognition, appreciation, and social responses from their environment. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using purposive sampling involving 14 informants, consisting of main informants, key informants, and supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings show that the lack of social validation in family relationships, friendships, work environments, and romantic relationships generates negative emotions such as disappointment, sadness, anger, feeling unappreciated, and feeling inadequate. These emotions are processed through intrapersonal communication, including sensation, perception, memory, and thinking. Stoic principles, such as the dichotomy of control, premeditatio malorum, amor fati, and inner discipline, help individuals reorganize their inner dialogue more rationally. This study concludes that intrapersonal communication and Stoicism can help Generation Z reduce dependence on external validation and build a more stable sense of self-worth.

Abstract

This article addresses the lack of a gender perspective in the media. This study employs a qualitative approach, using a case study framework, to analyse news articles on women’s issues and the general election published on Konde.co. These articles were analyzed using Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis model. This study aims to analyse how Konde.co practices gender-sensitive journalism, specifically in 11 articles covering women’s issues and the 2024 general election. Most previous research has focused on gender bias in mainstream media. Thus, this study seeks to fill that research gap with a clear novelty: a focus on the portrayal and narratives of women during the 2024 general election on Konde.co, as well as an analysis of gender bias in alternative media in practical political reporting. This study concludes that, in the articles examined, Konde.co portrays women as active subjects with the authority to narrate their experiences and perspectives. Women are also depicted as actors capable of conducting critical analyses of various issues. The texts also position readers as parties who are guided to understand and support women’s experiences. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of communication studies, particularly regarding gender representation and the role of alternative media. The practical implication of this study is to promote fairer and more gender-sensitive journalism practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

Children with incarcerated parents remain statistically and institutionally overlooked despite growing evidence of emotional, relational, educational, and material harm. Existing studies often isolate single outcomes, privilege adult reports, or concentrate on high income Western settings, leaving limited synthesis of how relational and structural mechanisms interact, particularly in African contexts. This integrative review synthesised 27 publications, from 2022 to 2026, using explicit eligibility criteria, critical appraisal, and thematic coding informed by attachment theory and the family stress proximal process model. Findings shows that parental incarceration may generate ambiguous and disenfranchised loss, anxiety, depression, behavioural dysregulation, and physiological stress; however, outcomes vary according to prior adversity, the preincarceration relationship, caregiver continuity, and the circumstances of arrest and imprisonment. Stigma, poverty, school disruption, unstable care, and unequal access to services frequently intensify emotional distress. Secure caregiving, developmentally appropriate truth, supportive schools, and emotionally safe contact can be protective, but intervention evidence remains limited and uneven in quality. The review’s theoretical contribution is an integrated pathway in which incarceration related shocks affect children through material strain and proximal family processes, with institutional support and children’s agency shaping outcomes. Practically, the findings support child impact assessments, routine identification of dependent children, caregiver assistance, confidential school protocols, and child centred contact policies. The review concludes that parental punishment should not become unexamined punishment of the child, while cautioning against treating all affected children as uniformly damaged or passive.

Abstract

PPP (Public Private Partnerships) is also a growing trend in policy as a way of solution to infrastructure deficits at the local government in Nigeria. This paper examines the contribution of PPPs to infrastructure growth in localities, with particular reference to roads, water supply, sanitation, and waste management. The study adopts a qualitative desk-based research design, drawing on secondary data using academic literature, policy documents, government reports and case studies chosen. The theory to be applied in this analysis is the New Public Management theory, which focuses on efficiency, accountability and involvement of the private sector in the delivery of services by the government. Findings indicate that the PPPs can mobilise private capital, technical expertise, and managerial efficiency in areas where the amount of resources supplied by the government is insufficient. Nonetheless, there are still considerable challenges such as weak regulatory frameworks, institutional capacity of the local governments, bad contract management, corruption and poor community engagement. These limitations tend to compromise the project performance and sustainability. The study concludes that PPPs can only be policy workable when it is backed with effective governance systems, transparency and an increase of the local government institutional capacity.

Abstract

The rapid growth of TikTok has transformed adolescents' communication practices by creating a hyperreal digital environment that shapes language use, self-expression, and identity construction. While previous studies have primarily examined TikTok's influence on social interaction and digital behavior, limited attention has been given to how hyperreality constructs the communication styles of Generation Alpha within school settings. This study aims to analyze the construction of Generation Alpha's communication style in the context of TikTok hyperreality at SMP Negeri 01 Tegal by integrating Baudrillard's theory of hyperreality with Norton's communication style framework. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving 15 students who actively use TikTok. The findings reveal that TikTok functions not only as a social media platform but also as a symbolic environment that reconstructs students' communication practices. Five dominant communication styles—dramatic, animated, open, friendly, and impression-leaving—emerged as manifestations of continuous exposure to TikTok's digital culture. The study further demonstrates that hyperreality encourages students to adopt viral expressions, digital symbols, and idealized online identities, resulting in more expressive yet less formal communication patterns and diminishing the intensity of face-to-face interactions. These findings extend the application of hyperreality theory to the context of adolescent digital communication and provide practical implications for strengthening digital literacy and communication ethics programs within schools.
