Abstract

Cassia siamea L. has been used traditionally as medicine and in previous studies had an IC50 antioxidant activity of 144.12 µg / mL. Cassia siamea L. potential as a medicinal substance is thought to have chemical constituents such as saponins, anthraquinones, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids and steroids. Indonesia, which is located in a tropical region with high temperatures and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, can cause skin disorders such as hyperpigmentation due to excess melanin synthesis. Tyrosinase enzymes can prevent or inhibit melanin formation. The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical content of Cassia siamea L. leaves extract with various solvents and the inhibitory activity of tyrosinase enzymes. In this study, the leaves of Cassia siamea L. were macerated with methanol as a solvent. The dry methanol extract was fractionated using the liquid-liquid method using aquadest, butanol and chloroform as solvents. The four dried extracts were then phytochemical screening to determine their chemical content. After that, the tyrosinase inhibition test was carried out in vitro with L-Dopa as a substrate using ELISA plate well reader at concentrations of 100, 1000 and 100000 ppm with three repetitions (triplo). The methanol extract had percent inhibition of 19.993 ± 1.125%, 28.984 ± 0.624%, 57.164 ± 0.623%, respectively; butanol fraction 25.914 ± 0.541%, 32.566 ± 0.767%, 52.120 ± 1.616%; chloroform fraction 19.920 ± 0.730%, 26.425 ± 0.937%, 62.865 ± 0.167% and aquadest fraction 23.830 ± 0.879%, 30.885 ± 0.778%, 67.471 ± 0.352%. Kojic acid had tyrosinase activity and acts more active than the other extract and fraction with 91.155±0.228% at 500 ppm. The butanol fraction had the highest percent inhibition at 100 and 1000 ppm which was thought to be due to the presence of alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, steroids and terpenoids from the results of the phytochemical screening test.

Abstract

Parents who have mentally retarded children may occur at home and in the community. When this happens the parents become anxious, lose self-esteem, and experience high stress. The psychological adaptive response of the stressor is called coping eating. This study aims to determine the relationship of coping mechanisms with the level of anxiety of parents who have mentally retarded children. The research design uses non-correlational experiments with cross sectional approach. The population is all parents who have mentally retarded children as many as 50 respondents. Sampling of 50 respondents using the Total Sampling technique. The instrument uses the COPE Inventory and DASS questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using the Spearman Rank. Most parents have adaptive coping mechanisms as many as 26 respondents (52%) and experience moderate anxiety as many as 22 respondents (44%). Statistical tests indicate the magnitude of the correlation coefficient between the two variables is 0.443 with a significant value of 0.001 <0.05. These results indicate that there is a correlation between coping mechanisms with anxiety of parents who have mental retardation children in SLB BC PGRI Sumber Pucung. The existence of the results of this study, it is expected that parents always use adaptive coping mechanisms to overcome their anxiety.

Abstract

Scrub is a type of cosmetics that has been widely used for skin care. However, many women do not realize that among the cosmetic products, including the scrubs they usually use, they may contain dangerous ingredients such as heavy metals. The use of scrubs, especially traditional scrubs that contain ingredients from nature, allows heavy metal contamination. This study aims to validate the analysis method of cadmium heavy metal content in traditional scrubs in the city of Tasikmalaya. Sample preparation used the wet digestion method using HNO3: H2O2 (3: 1). Cadmium was analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry at a specific wavelength of 283.3 nm, respectively. After obtaining the optimum digestion process and tools, the cadmium method was validated with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) which included linearity tests, detection limits, quantification limits, precision and accuracy. The results of the validation of the analysis method obtained a linear calibration curve in the concentration range of 1-8 ppm with a linear regression equation y = 0.1237x + 0.0247, the value of the correlation coefficient = 0.9982. The detection and quantitation limits were 0.63 ppm and 2.11 ppm. Intra-day and inter-day precision is SBR <2%. The retrieval or accuracy obtained is 101.64 - 105.49%.

Abstract

Diethylstilbestrol (DES) is a synthetic estrogen hormone that is useful as hormone replacement therapy, but long-term use of DES in cervical epithelium triggers cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). CIN can develop into cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is associated with the potential for invasion and metastasis, with the gold standard is histopathological examination. Accurate diagnosis and prediction of malignancy are important issues in clinical management, including the identification of biomarkers. Caspase or Cytosolic Aspartate-Specific Cysteine Proteases (caspase) are a group of proteases that facilitate apoptosis. Caspase-3 is a key mediator of the apoptotic process that acts as an anti-cancer. Exposure to DES in rats can trigger cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. In stage CIN I, it does not need therapy because 80% of cell dysplasia can return to normal. In CIN II & III stages can develop into cancer cells (true cervical cancers precursors). CIN is called pre-cancerous cells, and it can develop into cancerous if left untreated.  However, not all women who experience CIN will suffer cancer. The study used female Wistar rats strains for 3-5 days in age, administration a DES dose 1500 μgram/KgBB for 35 days. Then examined caspase-3 contained in serum and tissue through the ELISA method. The independent t-test result showed that there was no significant difference between caspase-3 in serum and tissue with p> 0.05.

Abstract

Cardiorespiratory endurance is the maximum capacity of using oxygen which can be influenced by Hb and BMI levels, so it does not get tired easily after doing activities. Students tend to have unbalanced Hb and BMI. This study aims to determine the relationship of BMI and hemoglobin levels with cardiorespiratory endurance in female college students.A literature review searched three database (Google Scholar, Pro Quest, and National Journal) that use cross-sectional or quasi-experimental designs published after 2010. The prism checklist is used as a guide to assess the feasibility of studies. The research findings were carried out by tabulating data and narrative analysis. Found 8 journals that met the inclusion criteria based on two broad that affected cardiorespiratory endurance, BMI (n=3), Hb (n=5). Most of these studies use cross-sectional or quasi-experimental designs. The average number of respondents of the study was more than 50 people for the study of the relationship of hemoglobin and body mass index with cardiorespiratory endurance in female college students. The research examined in this article shows that BMI and Hb are associated with cardiorespiratory endurance in female college students. This can be used as nurses to provide education about the importance of maintaining a balance of BMI and hemoglobin levels in increasing cardiorespiratory endurance so that they can perform physical activity maximally.Â
