Abstract

Marigold flower has many benefits in many aspects of life in Bali Island (Indonesia) including often used in religious ceremonial activities. For controlling plant pests and diseases, marigold is planted on the sidelines or on the edge of a land as an attractant crop to invite natural enemies and marigold also can produce certain substance which can reduce the incidence of nematode. In inducing mutagenesis in this research, the seeds of marigold were soaked in solution of colchicine with hydrogen peroxide as its solvent. The results of this research indicated that the treatments caused the formation of chlorophyll mutant and an increase in the length of flower diameter. Both the control and treated plant samples were attacked by leaf miner, giant land snail, virus-like disease and botrytis flower blight disease.

Abstract

Sygnathidae corals are included in the vurnarable category of CITES because the number in their natural habitat is decreasing. This is partly due to the high predatory activity and utilization as raw materials for traditional medicine so that it has high economic value. This research aims to study the ecological conditions including the distribution and abundance of Sygnathidae reef fish in the waters of Blue Lagoon Karangasem and to study the ecological conditions of the waters. The main marine tourism and recreation activities at Blue Lagoon Beach Karangasem, Bali are now snorkeling tours. This requires attention to the preservation of coastal ecosystems, because tourism is an industry that is very sensitive to external changes, so the region is of concern. Besides studies on marine tourism activities, scientific studies on tourism carrying capacity are also needed to determine the maximum number of tourist visitors that can still be tolerated by an ecotourism area. This research was conducted in the Blue Lagoon Coast Karangasem Bali. This study uses primary data analysis of water quality analysis, the method of determining the suitability of the region based on the multiplication of scores and weights obtained from each water brightness parameter category S1 with a score of 15, coral community cover category S3 with a score of 5, coral life form category S1 with a score of 9 , reef fish category TS with a score of 0, current speed category S2 with a score of 2, and depth of the category S3 with a score of 1. This study was conducted for 3 months, namely in June-August. The determination of the research station is based on the Purposive sampling technique. Secondary socioeconomic data obtained by questionnaire, interview / interview. The purpose of this study is to examine the suitability of the area as a marine tourism activity and analyze the carrying capacity (carrying capacity) of marine tourism areas.

Abstract

One conventional method that usually done when the organism infected by pathogenic bacteria is using antibiotics, either with single or combination usage. However, the misuse of antibiotics dosages leads to resistance development of pathogenic bacteria. This study aims to determine the antibiotic resistance level of Vibrio spp. which was isolated from the waters of North Bali and to investigate the difference of resistance level between Vibrio spp. isolated from the cultivation area and outside the cultivation area. This research was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory of BKIPM Denpasar and the Laboratory of Fisheries at the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Udayana University from November 2019 to February 2020. Antibiotic tests were carried out in vitro using 8 types of antibiotics namely tetracycline, oxytetracycline, enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, amoxycillin, doxycycline, ampicillin, and erythromycin with different concentrations of 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 64, 128, 256 and 512 ppm. and this test was carried out using a microplate reader to obtain absorbance values before and after incubation to determine the level of resistance of isolated Vibrios. The research showed that overall minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Vibrio was below 100 ppm while the Vibrio spp. isolated from cultivation area have higher resistance level compared to outside cultivation area.

Abstract

Seaweed is one of Indonesia's fishery commodities with great potential to be cultivated, the condition of seaweed produced in Indonesia is not optimal yet. This can be seen from the low productivity of seaweed in Indonesia which is caused by the low growth rate. The growth rate of seaweed can be supported by proper planting techniques and cultivation methods. Seaweed farmers generally use planting techniques and traditional cultivation methods called the monoculture system, which is planting one type of plant in an area. As the cultivation systems developed, a new cultivation system was found that supports increased growth of seaweed, namely the co-cultivation. This system is sustainable and environmentally friendly which combines species from various trophic in one system. This research was conducted for 6 weeks from December 2019 to January 2020 in the coastal area of Pandawa Beach, Bali. The data was analysed in Completely Randomized design with three treatments and three replications. The monoculture cultivation system which contain 100 gr of seaweed in a bag was treated as control and co-culture systems were added with 10 and 30 individuals of abalones. The results showed that the growth rate pattern as a measure of weight increased during the time of study. The weight of seaweed was highest in co-cultured treatment with 10 individual abalones. The highest specific growth rate of seaweed occurred in the co-culture system up to 4%/day compared to the monoculture cultivation system only 3.4%/day.

Abstract

Reclamation of land used for mining is very important because it is related to microbial activity in the soil which has an impact on soil fertility. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the diversity of bacterial colonies in the reclaimed land of the former Limestone Mining. The method used in this research was a laboratory experimental method. The results of the study showed that 6 bacterial isolates were found and the highest total plate count in GPS land (GPS system) is 1.97 X 106 cfu, the dominant colony characteristics were irregular shapes, flat edges and milky white color.

Abstract

A study about abundant of epilithic diatom was conducted on 2017 in Kuranji River. The objective of this study was to clarify species and abundant of epilithic diatom in Batang Kuranji River. Samples were collected in 3 stations by purposive sampling and brushing method. The results showed that totally 82 species in 22 genera had been found. The total abundant of epilithic diatom was 15139,26 individual/cm2. The highest abundance of epilithic diatom was found in station I (Batu Busuak) and the lowest in station III (Sawah Liek). Synedra sp and Fragillaria sp were dominant group of diatoms which are found in almost all sites. Some physical and chemical water quality parameters were showed that Batang Kuranji River were polluted slightly by organic and inorganic materials.
