Abstract

Ethical behavior is very important for every professional to ensure that the business will sustain for a long time and gain proitable. The present study is aimed at understanding the importance of Maqasid Al-Shariah and Maslahah in making ethical decisions among executive professionals in Indonesia. In view of this, the research explore to extent to which practitioners understand the concept of Maqasid Al-Shariah and Maslahah concept in making ethical decisions, and whether there is a relationship between their understanding of the concept and ethical decisions. Qualitative research method is used to collect a data from seven executiveprofessionals from different industry and working experiences. This study used in-depth and intensive semi-structured interview. The finding showed that majority ofrespondents are not familiar with the concept of Maqasid Al-Shariah and Maslahah, although they proved that their current practice actually has been part ofthis concept.

Abstract

The bank’s financial report is the only lead for the public c to review, evaluate, and assess the soundness of a bank. By tinkering the available figures within the monthly financial reports, we have measured 52 variables comprised of the common indicators to calculate the effects of financial performance of the bank, its financial distress, to its stock price in the market. The common indicators used are the ratios of liquidity, rentability, and solvability. The bankruptcy prediction and financial distress indicators were considered to part ofthe solvability ratios. The data observed and collected was between January 2002 to 18 July 2017. The time lag and IPO as of 10 November 2003 reduced the eligibility of monthly financial reports, leaving the data usable for the period of November 2003 to April 2017. As 10 variables were excluded by the system, only 4 of42 variables were found to be significantly affecting the stock price variable. The 4 independent variables are market capitalization, the ratio of placement in BI to the third-party fund, debt to equity ratio, and debtto asset ratio.

Abstract

This study analyzed the perception of organization members of the group of company in Dani Prisma Mitra (DPM) about the influence of COSO organizational framework consisting of company ethical environments, risk management training and internal audit activities on the quality of internal control procedures. Population in this research is all employee in finance and non-finance department with the level of supervisor and upward at DPM. Hypothesis testing used multiple regression analysis with a discussion of contingency theory. Hypothesis testing concluded that company ethics environments and internal audit activities have the positive and significant influence on the quality of internal control procedure, while risk management activities have a positive but not significant effect on to the quality of internal control procedure.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to examine the evidence of entrepreneurial characteristics amongst different professional backgrounds, both entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs, especially private employees, government employees, police officers, and entrepreneurs. We examined entrepreneurial characteristics in terms of innovativeness, need for achievement, the locus of control, risk-taking propensity, tolerance for ambiguity, and self-confidence. The sample in this study is 269 individuals who work as entrepreneurs, police officers, government employees and private employees in major cities in Indonesia areas. Research hypothesis testing was performed using ANOVA statistical tests and was proceeded using IBM SPSS Statistics software version 21. There are six hypotheses proposed in this study and all proposed hypothesis were statistically supported. In other words, there are significant differences in the average value of entrepreneurial characteristics being assessed, among police officers, government employees, private employees, and entrepreneurs. Theoretically, this study will hopefully contribute to invigorating previous studies which provide the evidence of different entrepreneurial characteristics between entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs. Practically, the implications of this study can provide suggestions for the personal development in a variety of jobs, especially in terms of entrepreneurial characteristics development. Entrepreneurial characteristics amongst active employees can generate organizational performance improvement. As for the retired employees, entrepreneurial characteristics will be a valuable source in starting a business activity.

Abstract

A bank has an important role in every country including Indonesia. The bank is aimed at maintaining economic growth and national financial stability. This study is to measure and analyze the financial performance between Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Mandiri, and Bank Central Asia (BCA) against the national performance condition from under Bank Indonesia’s regulation No. 1 3 /1 /PBI/2 01 1 about Banks Financial Health Assessment. The data were collected from the annual report each company for the period 2012 – 2016. Furthermore, this study measure and analyze their level of financial health performance with Risk-based Bank Rating (RBBR) approach. RBBR examines NonPerforming Loan Ratio (NPL), Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Current Account and Saving Account Ratio (CASA), Return on Asset (ROA), and Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR). The result shows that those banks have a good financial performance which can be categorized into an ideal and very healthy condition. The finding results will be useful for students to deepen understanding about financial ratio and for bankers to analyze and make a strategy to improve the performance.

Abstract

In order to establish a future engagement of the Indonesian market in terms of coconut flour, awareness of the product is needed for the consumer decision making to purchase the product which will lead to future engagement. This study aims to examine the effects of product and awareness and consumer decision making towards future engagement in Indonesia. By employing SmartPLS, we prove that existence of product has a relatively strong negative relationship with awareness (.55); while awareness has a relatively weak relationshipwith consumer decision making to purchase a product (.37) and the decision made by customer to purchase healthy product have a relatively strong positive relationship towards engagement of the product in the future (.66). Further implications are discussed.

Abstract

Post-merger and Acquisition (M&A) integration often deals with significant transformational changes of merging companies in terms of development, communication, implementation and harmonization of a new shared vision, strategic objective, corporate culture, and also combination of best companies’ value practices. The transformational change is accentuated on facilitating the role of developing and executing an effective post-M&A Integration to build change cohesively with the strategic management of M&A, and also in terms of removing barriers to the success of M&A transaction. The aims of this study are to give a clear and deep understanding on how to manage the soft factors issues that address in M&A process especially in the post-M&A integration process and also to elucidate the critical success factor of M&A process by instilling the best characteristics and the effectiveness level of leadership aspect in M&A. The methodology used in this research is descriptive qualitative research with a method or approach of a case study of Henkel’s Acquisition of The Dial Corporation in 2004. The acquisition of a USA company Dial by a German company Henkel evidenced that both companies were successful in M&A transaction and employed the effectiveness of multi-culture integration strategy. Another case study used in this research is British Petroleum (BP) and American Oil Company (Amoco) (also Atlantic Richield Company (ARCO) and Burmah Castrol) in 1998-2000. The case of BP Amoco showed that the monoculture integration strategy or cultural imposition can also lead to a value creation. Both case studies showed that successful integration requires leadership as a foundation to build a solid execution of post-M&A integration projects in how they planned, communicated and delivered the objectives of the projects.

Abstract

This study examines the relation between potential growth in the context of micro, small, medium enterprises by evaluating several factors, i.e. lack of marketing ability, inadequate business training, technological backwardness, poor quality of products, lack of innovation, unfavorable legal and regulatory framework, insuficient capital, and shortage of skilled labor. The data collected is from 196 self-employed enterprises in Jakarta, Indonesia. Results indicate that unfavorable legal and regulatory framework is the most affecting factor to slow down the growth of small businesses as well as a hindrance to its exports opportunities abroad. The further investigation of demographic factors shows how the differences canadd to ourunderstanding in the potential growth of smallbusinesses.

Abstract

As we know that the oil and gas industry is a huge industry and a big contributor to government revenue. However, a signiicant decline in government revenues from this sector is in 2014 by 14.11% to 4.46% in 2015, and in 2016 the value is not too far from the previous year that is 4.58%. This is due to the decline in world oil prices and also the decline in production of Indonesian private oil and gas companies. The purpose of this study is to analyze the financial performance of Indonesia’s private oil and gas company before and after declining the national oil and gas production. The data were collected from financial report of PT. Medco Internasional, Tbk and divided into two periods. The period before the decline in production from 2011 to 2013, and after the decline in production from 2014 to 2016. Financial ratio analysis (FRA) and paired sample t-test were used to analyze the data. The results show that Indonesia’s private oil and gas company is still in good performance even in one year suffered considerable losses. The value of cash ratio, inventory turnover, and collection period signiicantly different before and after the decline in oil and gas production. The authors believe that findings will be helpful for managers who continuously attempt to explore opportunities to provide a higher return.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of satisfaction of the supermarket customers using the service quality (SERVQUAL) framework. It utilized a researcher-made questionnaire patterned from the original SERVQUAL questionnaire that was rephrased to it the context of the focus of this study. The questionnaire is divided into 2 parts: the first part dealt with the demographic profile of the respondents and the second part dealt with level of respondents’ agreement on the constructs of SERVQUAL which are generalized into five categories, tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. The dimensions of SERVQUAL are considered to be the determining factors for customer satisfaction. Based on the results obtained, it is evident that gap exist between expectations and actual service perception on the service quality of the supermarkets. The highest expectations were identified on reliability and empathy constructs while the lowest expectations were identified on responsiveness,assurance and tangibility constructs. For perception however, the highest were for tangibility and responsiveness construct while the lowest were identified in empathy, assurance and reliability constructs.
