Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of self-esteem among social loafing in students who were active in organizations. The method used was quantitative. The subjects of this research were 121 students who were active and had joined student organizations. The sample was collected using a non-probability sampling technique, particularly purposive sampling. Data collection used a questionnaire containing two scales, the social loafing scale and the self-esteem scale. Data analysis of this research used simple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of this study, R value=.414 and the coefficient of determination (R2)=.171 and the regression coefficient β(X)= -0.652. The results of this study indicated that self-esteem had a negative effect on social loafing among students active in organizations, with an effect size of 17.1%, while 82.9% was due to other factors.

Abstract

The phenomenon of catcalling is a form of verbal sexual harassment that is increasingly prevalent. Victims of catcalling tend to feel disturbed and uncomfortable rather than perceiving it as a compliment from the perpetrators. This study aims to explore the perceptions of perpetrators behind the act of catcalling through Social Dominance Theory (SDT). The research employs a qualitative approach with a single instrumental case study design, using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with two participants who met the specified criteria. The findings of the study reveal two major themes: perceptions underlying catcalling, which include normalization of the behavior, and the role of social dominance in catcalling, where men perceive themselves as dominant in social environments and destined to be superior to women. This gender inequality fosters sexism and tolerance toward sexual harassment.

Abstract

Minangkabau people migrate to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. Becoming an entrepreneur in a foreign land is not without various challenges, whether from an economic, environmental, or cultural perspective. Entrepreneurs who can navigate these challenges tend to have a resilient personality, driven by their entrepreneurial motivation. This study aims to examine the extent to which entrepreneurial motivation influences the hardiness of Minangkabau migrant entrepreneurs. The research employs a quantitative method using nonlinear quadratic regression analysis. The respondents in this study consisted of 96 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Entrepreneurial Motivation Scale and the Dispositional Resilience Scale: A Short Hardiness Scale. The results indicate that entrepreneurial motivation significantly influences the hardiness of Minangkabau migrant entrepreneurs, as shown by an R2 value of .505. This means that entrepreneurial motivation contributes 50.5% to the hardiness of Minangkabau migrant entrepreneurs.

Abstract

Down syndrome is a genetic condition that causes physical and mental delays due to abnormal development of chromosomes. For mothers, treating down syndrome in early childhood requires more attention because it is not an easy thing, beside that mothers have other tasks. In this case, treating down syndrome children require patience and desire from mothers. Patience and desire in mothers is a form of acceptance against children with down syndrome. This research aims to determine whether there is a correlation between resilience and mother’s acceptance who have children with down syndrome using quantitative methods. The research involved 60 mothers who have children with down syndrome and used a purposive sampling method. The measuring instrument used in the research was the Resilience Scale and Mother’s Acceptance Scale. The results of hypothesis testing through Kendall's Tau-B correlation analysis show a value of p = .000 (p < .05) and r = .434, so it can be concluded that there is a correlation between resilience and mother’s acceptance who have children with down syndrome.
