Abstract

This study investigates the role of zakat in advancing green economic growth through the normative lens of Maqashid Sharia. The objective is to evaluate how zakat, beyond its redistributive function, can foster sustainable development by integrating economic empowerment, social welfare, and environmental stewardship.A qualitative approach was applied, drawing on systematic literature review and conceptual analysis. Data were sourced from academic research, institutional reports, and policy documents on zakat, green economy, and sustainability. The analysis focused on zakat as the independent fiscal instrument, green economic growth as the dependent outcome, and Maqashid Sharia as the guiding framework. The findings demonstrate that zakat significantly contributes to inclusive growth when aligned with sustainable development strategies. In Malaysia and Indonesia, zakat has alleviated poverty, strengthened financial inclusion, and empowered marginalized groups. When guided by Maqashid principles, zakat also shows potential to support eco-friendly enterprises, renewable energy, and conservation programs. Nevertheless, limited regulations, low literacy on productive zakat, and weak institutional collaboration constrain its impact. Opportunities for digital innovation and cross-sectoral partnerships, however, provide viable pathways for zakat to be institutionalized as a green economic driver. This study concludes that zakat, integrated with Maqashid Sharia, can balance economic, social, and ecological objectives, positioning it as a strategic instrument for green economic transformation and long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Zakat, as an Islamic social financial instrument, has great potential in poverty alleviation and improving social welfare. However, the gap between the potential and realization of zakat collection is still significant. This study aims to evaluate the zakat management policy framework in the context of social welfare using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the PRISMA approach. Of the 64 articles identified in the Scopus database, 35 articles met the inclusion criteria for in-depth analysis. The review results revealed seven main themes: regulatory and legal framework, governance and management, technological innovation, distribution and empowerment strategies, public awareness and education, interinstitutional collaboration, and impact measurement and evaluation. The findings indicate that effective zakat management requires a holistic approach, including legal harmonization, managerial professionalism, technology adoption, innovative distribution models, public education, inter-institutional synergy, and a comprehensive evaluation system. This study recommends policy reforms that include improving regulations, standardizing management, integrating technology, developing empowerment programs, digital-based education campaigns, strengthening collaboration, and developing an evaluation framework integrated with the SDGs. The implementation of these recommendations is expected to optimize the role of zakat in improving social welfare in the digital era.

Thus, the research preparation implements a qualitative method with a literature review approach. This research is presented descriptively with secondary data sources obtained from relevant sources. The results of this study illustrate that fintech is beneficial for muzakki in providing an easy and efficient mechanism for zakat collection. BAZNAS is committed to facilitating zakat payers with digital or fintech payments through e-commerce by providing services that make it easier for the community to fulfill their obligations of zakat, infak, and sedekah through a server-based system with PayTren. Fintech has proven to have a positive impact because it simplifies transactions and can be accessed anywhere. However, there is a generation that is still not confident about account security and there are still concerns about the potential leakage of personal data.

Abstract

Digital transformation has reshaped the way philanthropic organizations in Indonesia manage fundraising. Recognized as the most generous nation in the CAF World Giving Index, Indonesia offers a strong foundation for enhancing donation practices through technology. This study explores the “Defend Palestine” crowdfunding campaign launched by Laznas LMI on the Infak.in platform, aiming to analyze strategies that influence donation growth and donor trust. The research employed qualitative methods, using semi-structured interviews with Laznas LMI digital marketing staff and documentation analysis over a five-month period. The campaign was developed through pre-production, production, and post-production stages, combining storytelling, emotionally driven narratives, and influencer marketing. Teh Yunda Faisyah, a public figure with significant social media reach, was engaged as a spokesperson to strengthen credibility and increase visibility. The findings reveal that donations on the Infak.in platform rose steadily during the campaign’s ten-week observation, supported by clear narratives and influencer involvement. Data analysis showed a return on investment (ROI) of 109%, highlighting that the campaign generated nearly twice the revenue compared to costs. This demonstrates that integrating digital crowdfunding strategies with trust-building mechanisms can effectively improve philanthropic fundraising outcomes in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines how firm-generated content (FGC) and user-generated content (UGC) can build trust and encourage zakat payments through formal institutions in Indonesia, where zakat potential is high but often channelled through informal means due to trust issues. Leveraging the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework, the research explores how FGC and UGC influence perceived value and trust, ultimately shaping intentions to give zakat through digital platforms. Data was collected from 269 respondents in Indonesia via an online survey and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). This study has a unique perspective by integrating SOR theory and digital content strategies to gain knowledge about community participation in zakat through formal institutions. Findings reveal that both FGC and UGC positively impact perceived value and trust, with perceived value and trust significantly influencing zakat payment intentions. However, zakat knowledge, while important, does not significantly moderate the effect of FGC and UGC on perceived value. These results suggest that high-quality, transparent content that resonates emotionally and authentically with muzaki is crucial in increasing engagement with formal zakat institutions. This study contributes to the literature on digital engagement strategies in non-profit sectors, providing practical insights for zakat institutions in leveraging FGC and UGC to enhance trust and encourage donations. By addressing both cognitive and emotional aspects of donor behavior, zakat institutions can strengthen public trust and increase zakat participation, supporting poverty alleviation efforts in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing zakat payment via digital platforms, focusing on platform innovation and transparency as the primary variables, and it employs the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the theoretical framework to examine their impact. A quantitative methodology is adopted using an online survey, and the research is categorized as explanatory in nature. The researchers applied a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 100 respondents, while the data analysis was conducted using SPSS 26 to test the study hypotheses. The findings reveal that platform innovation significantly enhances muzaki decisions to contribute to zakat via digital platforms such as BAZNAS Platform, E-Commerce, and Fintech Services, while transparency also exerts a substantial positive influence on their decisions. Taken together, platform innovation and transparency are shown to have a strong and meaningful impact on muzaki decisions to contribute zakat through digital platforms. (BAZNAS Platform, E-Commerce, and Fintech Services).

Abstract

According to changes customer behavior including zakat giver (muzaki), social media management plays an important role in increasing the literacy and action of prospective muzaki regarding to ZIS engagement wherever. Start from social media, the opportunity to optimizing ZIS collection is greater and more flexible. This research aims to analyze the optimizing muzaki decision to pay zakat using the AISAS model approach. The AISAS model provides an illustration that social media be able to increase muzaki literacy and muzaki decision to pay zakat and share their experiences of ZIS action to the other community. The results show that social media has an influence on increasing ZIS literacy through AIS (attention, interest, search) as mediating variables. Furthermore, zakat literacy has an influence on increasing desire to pay zakat, action, and sharing experience using social media. However, the influence of social media is still not optimal. The action and share (AS) variables in the AISAS model are considered to have an important role in influencing society to pay zakat.
