Abstract

Anemia has a high long-term risk to the health of adolescent girls, such as fatigue, poor concentration, and decreased cognitive abilities, which can lead to decreased academic achievement and participation in school activities. Anemia during adolescence can even increase the risk of complications in future pregnancies, which can lead to increased maternal and infant mortality rates. Based on data from the Ministry of Health's Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018, 26.8% of children aged 5-14 years suffered from anemia and 32% aged 15-24 years. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevention of anemia in adolescent girls through balanced nutrition. The method used was a scoping review. Search terms used in articles such as "Adolescent" OR "Adolescent girls") AND "Anemia" AND ("Prevention of anemia in adolescent girls through balanced nutrition"). The databases used in the article search were Pubmed, Google Scholar, Scinet Direct, and ProQuest. Ten articles have identified anemia prevention in adolescent girls through balanced nutrition. Prevention can be achieved through proper daily food and beverage consumption, supplemented with iron supplementation tablets according to the government's recommended dosage. Factors contributing to anemia in adolescent girls include low levels of education among adolescents and their parents, parental income, poor nutrition, failure to consume iron tablets, and poor nutritional quality.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding (ASI) is an effective intervention in improving health status and reducing infant morbidity and mortality. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia has not yet reached the established target. One factor suspected to play a role in the success of exclusive breastfeeding is mothers' knowledge of the benefits and practices of breastfeeding. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding and the success of exclusive breastfeeding at the Independent Midwife Practice Center (TPMB) in Bandung Regency. Methods: This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 42 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 6–12 months and was selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire regarding mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding and their history of exclusive breastfeeding. Data were analyzed univariately to describe respondent characteristics and the distribution of study variables, and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The study showed that 20 respondents (47.6%) had good knowledge, 15 respondents (35.7%) had sufficient knowledge, and 7 respondents (16.7%) had insufficient knowledge. Twenty-seven respondents (64.3%) were successful in providing exclusive breastfeeding, while 15 respondents (35.7%) were unsuccessful. Chi-square test results showed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding and successful exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.001). Mothers with good knowledge had a higher proportion of successful exclusive breastfeeding (90.0%) compared to mothers with sufficient knowledge (53.3%) and those with insufficient knowledge (14.3%). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding and successful exclusive breastfeeding in the TPMB (Family Welfare Center) in Bandung Regency. Improving maternal knowledge through continuous health education and lactation counseling from pregnancy to postpartum needs to be strengthened as a strategy to increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding and support the achievement of maternal and child health program targets.

Abstract

Ectopic pregnancy is a pathological condition characterized by implantation of the embryo outside the uterine cavity, occurring in the fallopian tube. The pathogenesis of ectopic pregnancy is multifactorial and involves impaired embryo transport as well as alterations in the tubal microenvironment. Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), particularly E-cadherin and integrins, play important roles in cell–cell adhesion, cell–extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, and epithelial integrity. This review aimed to analyze the role of CAMs, particularly E-cadherin and integrins, in embryo adhesion and implantation within the fallopian tube in ectopic pregnancy. A literature review was conducted through searches of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using the keywords “ectopic pregnancy”, “tubal pregnancy”, “cell adhesion molecules”, “embryo-tubal attachment”, and “tubal microenvironment.” The literature primarily included publications from 2016 to 2026. Eligible articles were critically analyzed and narratively synthesized. The findings show that integrin β1 appears to play an important role in trophoblast adhesion to the tubal epithelium, whereas E-cadherin contributes to the maintenance of cell–cell adhesion and epithelial integrity through interactions with the catenin complex and the actin cytoskeleton. The interplay among CAM alterations, inflammation, and ECM remodeling may create a tubal microenvironment conducive to abnormal embryo implantation.

Abstract

Optimal weight gain is a crucial indicator of a child's nutritional status. At 12 months of age, protein requirements increase to support growth, and insufficient intake can raise the risk of growth faltering. The Riau Islands Province possesses local food resources—specifically fish, such as the *dingkis* fish—that have the potential to serve as a source of animal protein for supporting child growth. This study aimed to analyze the effect of *dingkis* fish consumption on weight gain in 12-month-old children. A quasi-experimental pre-post test design was employed to evaluate weight changes before and after the *dingkis* fish intervention. The results demonstrated that the consumption of *dingkis* fish significantly increased the children's average weight by 475 grams (p = 0.001). These findings indicate that *dingkis* fish consumption influences weight gain in 12-month-old children and holds potential as a local animal protein source to support growth and prevent growth faltering
