Abstract

Abstract

The study was conducted to compare the compressive strength of recycled type III gypsum and Portland Composite Cement (PCC) mixtures with manufactured type III gypsum in a laboratory experiment with post-test only control group design. A total of 20 samples were divided into 5 gypsum groups, namely type III manufactured, type III recycled, a mixture of type III recycled and PCC at 1%, 3%, and 5% respectively. The compressive strength test was conducted using Universal Testing Machine and ana-lysed using one-way Anova test. The highest compressive strength was obtained for the manufactured type III gypsum and the lowest compressive strength was obtained for the recycled type III gypsum; there was a significant difference in compressive strength (p<0.05) between the treatment groups. It was concluded that the addition of various concentrations of PCC to recycled type III gypsum increased the compressive strength of recycled type III gypsum, although it did not match that of manufactured type III gypsum.

Abstract

The preschool age group is vulnerable to caries problems because children at that age are not yet able to brush their teeth ef-fectively and appropriately. One of the effective learning methods applied to children is art therapy because it makes it easier for them to explore something new and forms a learning environment that makes them happy. Pre-experimental research through time series design used 37 samples achieved through purposive sampling. Data were collected by giving toothbrush cards to students of Fadhilah Amal 3 Kindergarten in Padang City. The results of this study showed different and meaningful results (p= 0.00) between the respondents' behaviour before and after the application of art therapy method of giving colour to the picture. It is concluded that art therapy is effective to support tooth brushing behaviour in pre-school children at Fadhilah Amal 3 Kinder-garten in Padang City. Abstract

Dental trauma is one of the most common dental emergencies. The etiology of primary tooth avulsion is usually the result of a complex object hitting the tooth. Correct and prompt emergency management is critical to the prognosis. Avulsion can cause severance of the periodontal ligament and nerve vascular disorders, with consequent loss of blood supply to the tooth, which can lead to pulpal necrosis. The success of treatment depends on the survival of the periodontal ligament cells attached to the tooth root surface. This can be done by reimplanting the avulsed tooth or by storing it in an appropriate storage/transport medium until the tooth is reimplanted into its socket. It is concluded that cases of avulsion have psychological, aesthetic, and functional consequences and the prognosis is related to periodontal membrane injury. The level of individual knowledge through targeted educational programs needs to be increased related to the emergency management of tooth avulsion.

Abstract

Thermoplastic nylon is a denture base that is in high demand by dentists because it has several advantages over acrylic resin materials. Streptococcus mutans is one of the bacteria that can cause the formation of dental plaque and halitosis. Beetroot (Be-ta vulgaris L.) is a natural ingredient as an anti-inflammatory that contains phenol compounds, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and betalains. Through this study, the effectiveness of beetroot extract on thermoplastic nylon denture users against the growth of S.mutans was determined. The experimental laboratory study used Fittydent® as positive control and sterile distilled water as negative control. Based on one-way Anova test, there was no significant difference between 10% and 40% beetroot extract (p>0.05). Immersion of thermoplastic nylon plates in 10% and 40% beetroot extract had an effect on the growth of S.mutans bacteria. This is due to the nature of thermoplastic nylon which easily absorbs water and phenol compounds contained in beet-root extract by diffusion. It is concluded that beetroot extract has the effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of S.mutans on ther-moplastic nylon plates.

Abstract

Composite resin is the most commonly used restoration material today, as it is one of the most tooth-coloured materials. In ad-dition, the hardness factor is indispensable for the durability of the filling. The hardness of the composite can be affected by the way the material is applied. This study compared bulk-fill and non-bulk-fill nanofiller composite resins with thicknesses of 2 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm. Laboratory experimental research with posttest with control group design used 24 composite resin sam-ples divided into 6 groups, namely bulkfill and non-bulkfill nanofiller composite resins, each made with a thickness of 2 mm, 4 mm, and 6 mm. The hardness was tested with a Vicker hardness tester. The least significant deference test showed that there was a significant difference in hardness between the 6 treatment groups (p<0.05). The highest hardness was obtained by the bulkfill nanofiller composite resin with a thickness of 2 mm at 27.82 VHN and the non bulkfill composite resin showed a low hardness value especially at a thickness of 6 mm at 6.75 VHN. It is concluded that the bulkfill nanofiller composite resin has higher hardness than the non bulkfill composite resin.

Abstract

The spread of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia is very high, which is characterised by a decrease in CD4 count that weakens the immune system. Opportunistic infections that often occur in HIV/AIDS patients are oral candidiasis at 90-95%. This article reports a case of oral candidiasis and identifies the type of candida in HIV/AIDS patients at Prof.Dr.Margono Soekardjo Purwokerto Hospital. A 34-year-old woman complained of white patches throughout her oral cavity, feeling rough, uncomfortable, and painless. The cli-nical picture showed white plaques that could not be scraped off, irregularly shaped on the dorsum of the tongue, buccal and la-bial mucosa, palate, attached maxillary gingiva, and extended to the oropharynx. Complete blood test showed decreased lym-phocyte count, and the patient's anti-HIV test was reactive. The patient was admitted to the internal medicine inpatient ward and received clotrimoxazole and clindamycin therapy. It was concluded that the oral manifestation that is commonly found in AIDS patients is oral candidiasis, the type of candidiasis in this case is chronic hyperplastic candidiasis.

Abstract

Periodontal disease is a disease caused by damage to the tooth supporting tissue starting from inflammation of the gingiva which is reversible and then gets worse until there is loss of tooth supporting tissue and periodontitis. During the Covid-19 pandemic, people were encouraged to postpone dental treatment or not come to the dentist's office. It was found that an increased inflam-matory response as a result of SARS-CoV-2 infection could trigger periodontitis and this is because the presence of periodontal disease is a predisposing factor for Covid-19. Descriptive observational study through panoramic and periapical radiographic data in March-September 2022, then the results were entered into distribution tables and graphs. Periodontal disease was found to be most prevalent in males. Based on age, most occurred in the adult age group, and the most common periodontal disease found was chronic periodontitis which occurred mostly in men. It is concluded that the prevalence of periodontal disease in RSGMP Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar after the pandemic is high due to people who are still not free to go to the dentist as an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
