Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze the prospects for the agriculture development in the Central Asian region and Tajikistan in particular, in terms of identifying the main favorable and constraining factors for the further agriculture development. The Pyanj river is one of the main tributaries of the Transboundary Amu Darya River in the Central Asian region, whose waters are a source of drinking water supply for the population and 80% used for irrigation of agricultural land. The trend of deteriorating water quality of Central Asian River systems recently has been increasing, and monitoring water quality from the formation zone to the downstream of the rivers is a problem in the region. The statistical methods and Pearson correlation to the meteorological conditions monitoring of the river basins were used. In the Laboratory of Environment and Geology of the Department of Geological Sciences of the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA), as well as in the Laboratory of Moisture Chemistry of the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (USA) by use of an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) and ion chromatography was conducted the element analyses of waters. The physical and chemical analyses of water samples was conducted using the “TaLab” spectrophotometer following the relevant state standards. The suitability of water for irrigation were determined by the calculation of the coefficients of sodium adsorption (SAR), the percentage of sodium (Na%), the percentage of sodium solubility (SSP), and the percentage of exchangeable sodium (ESP). The contribution of the Gunt River to the enrichment of the main Pyanj River with Fe, Co, Ni, Sr, Ca, Mg, Na, and K elements are established. The assessment of the natural water quality of the Pyanj and Gunt rivers for irrigation was carried out using various index methods, such as SAR, ESP, SSP and %Na.

Abstract

The influence of plant traits on interspecific demographic rates to growth and mortality has recently received an increasing attention because it allows understanding of the underlying determinants of species success especially in open degraded areas. This study examined the trait-based approach in selecting potential species for forest restoration. Five (5) native/indigenous pioneer species were evaluated for functional traits such as plant height, branching architecture, leaf dry matter content, specific leaf area, stem density, and bark thickness. All samples were collected from healthy and well grown mature trees growing in secondary forest of Central Mindanao University. The range of values for the various functional traits as observed by Ostertag and Perez-Harguindeguy were used to evaluate. Based on the result, three species such as Phyllantus albus, Polyscias nodosa, and Buchanania arborescence showed to fit in those values hence we recommend that these species should be considered as primary restoration species in various denuded areas of the Philippines. Our result suggests that multiple functional traits (i.e. Leaf anatomical traits, leaf morphological traits and leaf stomatal traits) are still required to be measured to select appropriate plant species for restoration.

Abstract

Across the world urban dwellers are facing increasing risks of exposure to noise pollution. The World Health Organization (WHO) described noise pollution as an underestimated threat that can cause various health problems to humans and wildlife. In Nigeria, urban areas are experiencing increasing levels of noise pollution. In this study, a combination of low-cost noise sensors and GIS modelling were used to conduct a preliminary investigation of the spatiotemporal patterns of noise pollution in a prominent urban area in Nigeria. This was to ascertain whether residents are exposed to dangerous noise levels that could affect their health as well as to demonstrate the potentials of deploying network of sensors for real-time monitoring of noise pollution in urban areas of developing countries. We observed noise levels at 5 seconds intervals, over a period of 24 hours, at different strategic locations (e.g. Achara Layout, Abakpa, and Independence Layout) across the city. Using GIS analytics techniques, data obtained from field were used to produce noise maps of the city. We found that night-time noise levels ranged between 32 and 35dBA, which are below recommended limits by the Nigerian government and WHO. Daytime noise levels ranged between 44 and 66dBA, slightly exceeding recommended limits. This contradicts general perceptions that noise levels in the city are dangerously high. This study has given the first insight into the spatiotemporal patterns of noise levels across Enugu Metropolis. It is the first time a spatiotemporal study of noise pollution was conducted in the city, revealing noise footprints of various parts of the city.

Abstract

Article deals with the economic importance of sustainable development its component and their impact on the economy and business. The preconditions, theoretical, and applied principles of sustainability are investigated. The article substantiates the need to determine the priorities of innovation for sustainable development. The measures and goals to be taken to implement the innovative component of sustainable development are proposed to get virality of business opportunity. Economic changes and environmental pressures are sparking new levels of global concern, shifting consumers' values, preferences, and behavior. In response, businesses should consider the idea of a purpose beyond economic profit to design products with sustainability in mind and it will become vital to understand where the greatest needs and most significant investment opportunities lie.

Abstract

Children need to play, either alone or with friends, especially in outdoors spaces, to benefits their growth and development. Many densely populated areas do not provide children's playgrounds due to the limited area and not planned from the start of development. As a result, children play in the remaining space around the residence, which can threaten the safety and comfort of children. It is essential to pay attention to the safety and comfort aspects of children. This paper aims to explain the spatial reach of children when playing outdoors and children's perceptions about their playing area. This research was conducted in Keluranan Kalianyar every day from Monday to Sunday, in the morning and afternoon. Conducted interviews with 347 children accompanied by one of their parents and studied literature. The study found that most of the children playing near home (about less than 40 meters and 40-100 meters from their home). Second, 64% of children believe that playing space is unsafe, and 69% believe that playing space is uncomfortable for all children. This study explains that although no play area meets the elements of safety and comfort, children can still play at a distance that is still affordable from their home. Thus, efforts are needed to enhance the safety and comfort of children's play spaces.

Abstract

Social Enterprise (SE) is an exciting phenomenon. Many SEs carry out activities that might be avoided by ordinary businesses pursuing profit but instead become the main targets of SE activities that have a social mission. Thus, building SE sustainability is more difficult because the problems are complex, and most SE is MSME with resource constraints. SE should be able to pick the best strategies, considering their limited resources and changing demand from the ecosystem. This research aims to formulate the priority strategies for SE sustainability. This research employs both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Three key factors and ten elements for the sustainability of SE were derived from the literature study, survey findings, and interviews with SE experts and SE players. Using the Fuzzy AHP method, the choice of strategies is combined with the opinions of experts based on existing factors. The findings are as follows. The top four strategy ranks are innovation, collaboration, and adaptive to the changing needs of society and leveraging their resources. Therefore, this research concludes that innovation should be the priority to achieve the sustainability of SE. The primary strategy must be carried out is collaborative innovation to respond to changing social needs.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in goal 3 (good health and well-being) and goal 4 (equality in education) for all specifically targeted at vulnerable groups. Adolescents were a part of it. A decade of progress in reproductive health could be stalled by covid-19. The study aimed to analyze reproductive health and adolescents’ perceptions during the covid-19 pandemic era in urban areas. This descriptive study used an online survey conducted in Jakarta. The sample consisted of 438 adolescents selected by convenience sampling technique. The results were that both female and male adolescents had poor knowledge about HIV/AIDS transmission (female = 77.0%; male = 74.7%) and pregnancy even if only by one sexual intercourse (female = 93.4%; male = 81.4%). The webinars and online counseling in total have more than 75% of respondents who rarely and never been given from educational institutions. There was a large difference between female adolescents (4.5%) and males (13.4%) in the proportion gap related to the perception that the covid-19 were at no risk of reproductive health problems. Conclusion. it was necessary to optimize the role of educational institutions on reproductive health knowledge through webinars and online counseling.

Abstract

Tourism is one way to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but there has been no evaluation of whether the accommodation industry which has a consumptive character plays a role in creating sustainable development. Hotel accommodation that has a global network cannot avoid the consumptive aspect that emphasizes luxury so that it exploits resources such as electricity and is not environmentally friendly. The study uses a qualitative approach to evaluate the theory of consumption and further development using two hotels with global networks in Central Kalimantan focusing on the environment because of its proximity to the White and Half-White National Challenges Park to demonstrate the commitment of the global hotel industry to the SDGs. The results show that tourism through the accommodation industry sector cannot be separated from consumptive behavior so that it is only in the early stages of supporting sustainable development goals and directly at points 6, 7, 13 and 15.

Abstract

Cisadon is one of the villages that has coffee as one of the main sources of income for the local community. This research develops the marketing of Cisadon Forest Coffee through the ecotourism sector. Based on applied research, this research proves that the synergy between Kampung Atas and Kampung Bawah can improve the quality of coffee production in Kampung Cisadon. Cisadon Coffee production is developed by conducting sports tourism activities in a virtual race with the focus of Cisadon Coffee as a marketing icon. This research aims to increase community engagement and marketing of Cisadon Forest Coffee. By involving the indigenous people of Cisadon, this research indirectly also educates the community to understand that the coffee plant that grows in their area is a natural resource that can be utilized for their welfare. Thus, it is hoped that the understanding of coffee and its marketing techniques can be spread widely and evenly to realize the Cisadon tourism village.

Abstract

One of the rice producer districts in Central Java is the Karanganyar district. The productivity of rice in Karanganyar district can still be improved because until 2010 the average productivity achieved at the farm level was still below potential or the research results were 8 ton ha-1. The low performance of farming because farmers are faced by the situation of limited production factors used in business to achieve the goal of maximizing income/welfare. The popular approach to measure the level of efficiency at the farm level is to use the frontier production function to determine technical efficiency. This study aims to determine the level of efficiency, in term of technical, allocation, and economy. This study also determines the factors that influence the technical and economic inefficiency of rice farming in Karanganyar district. This study uses Stochastic Production Frontier, by using 159 farmer respondents from 8 villages in 4 selected sub-districts. The result shows that rice farming in Karanganyar district already achieved technical and economic efficiency but has not yet for allocative efficiency. Factors of farmer's age, education, experience in rice farming, type of irrigation, and location (regional elevation) affect the technical inefficiency of rice farming in Karanganyar district significantly. While the factors that influence economic inefficiency are the type of irrigation and location. Farming households need to improve their technical efficiency, allocative efficiency, and economy efficiency.
