Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest tuna producers in the world. In Indonesia tuna is produced by small-scale fishermen. This shows that small-scale tuna fisheries play an important role and as the mainstay of national food. However, the number of fish caught has not been followed by the welfare of small-scale fishermen. The exported tuna commodity also face difficulty in entering the market because it does not meet the requirements of the importing country, one of which is related to traceability. This is the concern of the Indonesian Fisheries and Community Foundation (MDPI). MDPI is a non-governmental organization that promotes fair trade-based fisheries in Indonesia. The evidence of fair trade fisheries implementation is through fair trade certification. The focus of this study is to analyze the role of the Indonesian Fisheries and Society (MDPI) in fair trade certification for tuna commodities in Indonesia. The research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research methods sourced from secondary data in the form of literature studies. In this study, the authors use the concept of the role of non-governmental organizations and fair trade. Researcher found that in fair trade certification for tuna commodities in Indonesia, the MDPI Foundation carries out three roles partner, implementer and catalyst. research is important to understand that non-governmental organizations play an important role in fair trade.

Abstract

Karimunjawa National Park (TNKJ) as one of the seven marine national parks is priority for marine management. Ecosystems that contribute a lot of indirect value is coral reef ecosystems. Its utilization for marine tourism activities has enormous potential but is also vulnerable to damage. Calculation of economic value is carried out as basic information on tourist willingness in terms of coral reef conservation through a Willingness to Donate (WTD) that it can be used as one of the inputs for sustainable management. The research was conducted in the main waters of the TNKJ marine tourism utilization zone in August-September 2017. Tourist data collection was carried out through structured questionnaire with 45 selected respondents. The results show tourists who use coral reef ecosystems snorkel as many as 4755 people peryear and 853 people dive peryear in an area of 886,302.7841 m2. The average WTD for snorkeling tourists is IDR206,250 and IDR87,500 for diving tourists. The total cost of rehabilitation of coral reefs per year is IDR1,055,356,250 per year. The resulting value can be used as a reference for the cost of repairing damaged ecosystems, responsible marine tourism activities and as an alternative priority incentive for coral reef conservation activities in TNKJ.

Abstract

Fisheries resources are very vulnerable. Integrated management is needed between regions, sectors and stakeholders to sustain fisheries resources. Good management will provide the maximum benefits of the environment, economy and society. "Social and Ecological Market Economy" (SEME) is based on determining a triangle strategic, is the combination of capital, labor and environmental sustainability. This concept is needed as a benchmark in maintaining a balance between resource sustainability, fishermen as beneficiaries and the economic side to ensure the sustainability of fishermen's lives and prevent poverty. Some of the instruments that can be implemented based on the SEME concept are: 1) Supporting laws and regulations, 2) Improving the local market economy, 3) Creating a network of cooperation, and 4) Forming fishing activities and businesses based on environmental sustainability.

Abstract

The sandfish sea cucumber, Holothuria scabra, has economic value and is considered expensive, making it a target for utilization. The sandfish sea cucumber is found in the village of Tungu, but with the implementation of sasi (a traditional system of resource management), it is expected to ensure the sustainability of the sandfish sea cucumber resources. In reality, every time the sasi period is lifted, sandfish sea cucumbers are harvested without any size limitations and there are illegal captures by fishermen from outside the Aru Islands using complete diving equipment. Given these conditions, it is suspected that the sandfish sea cucumber population may decline. Therefore, this research was conducted in August-September 2018, with the aim of assessing the performance efficiency of the sasi system for sandfish sea cucumbers in Tungu Village. Data collection was done through observation and interviews with intentionally selected respondents and analyzed descriptively using several indicators. The research results showed that the catch of sandfish sea cucumbers amounted to 2,240 kg of dried weight, with varying selling prices according to size. The analysis of performance efficiency indicated that the sasi system for sandfish sea cucumbers in Tungu Village falls into the moderate category.

Abstract

The availability of potential fishery resources owned by the waters around Ambon Island has not been fully supported by the ability of human resources to manage them properly. The mastery of technology and management in the field of fisheries and marine owned by coastal communities in Ambon is still limited to be able to utilize the potential of fisheries and marine resources available. On the other hand, the availability of capital to stimulate economic activities in the fisheries and marine sector has also not been fully met. The mastery of knowledge and business skills of the people living on the coast of Ambon is still traditional and subsistence in nature, so efforts are still needed to increase the productivity of businesses owned by the community. From the description of the conditions in the Ambon area, the presence of partnerships initiated by the government or the private sector is urgent in the framework of empowering fishing communities in this region. This study aims to formulate an alternative framework of partnership institutions that are appropriate for the empowerment of capture fishermen in Ambon. The research method used case study method, data collection using focus group discussion method. Data analysis uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The output of this research is an alternative framework of capture fisheries partnership institutions where in building a partnership concept that can accommodate the aspirations of the community, it is necessary to study the potential of the community itself, both human capital, natural capital, and social capital, coupled with a proper understanding of the problems faced by the fishing community itself, so that the partnership that is built is right on target, which in turn can provide adequate results.
