Fisheries resources that are open access allow overfishing to occur if not handled properly. To prevent this from happening, proper management and utilization of various types of marine resources is necessary. Information on fish distribution is one of the important things in an effort to find the best way in fisheries management. This paper tries to study the distribution of small pelagic fish in relation to oceanographic parameters that affect the movement of fish in the Makassar Strait using remote sensing satellite methods. This research was conducted in May-July 2021 in Makassar Strait waters. The data used in this study are point data and catches of small pelagic fish and oceanographic parameters from remote sensing satellite data. These data were then analyzed using GAM analysis. The results of this study indicate that oceanographic parameters have an influence on catches, in the SST range of 29.5°C – 30.5°C and CHL in the CHL range of 0.5 mg/m3 - 0.8 mg/m3 have a strong influence on the catch of small pelagic fish. The highest average catch was 44.4 kg of small pelagic fish in June.

Mangrove forest located on the coast of Tasiwalie Village, Suppa Subdistrict, is decreasing in area because it has been converted into ponds and seaweed farming. The damage to the mangrove forest has an impact on the community of Tasiwalie Village, which is the decrease in the number of fishermen's catches, the reduction in the source of clean water and the community's house being flooded every time the tide is rising. Therefore mangrove tree planting activities need to be done to overcome the problem of damage to the mangrove forest. The purpose of this activity is for the community to take an active role in efforts to conserve mangrove forests and foster community knowledge about the importance of protecting and preserving mangrove forests. The method used in this activity is counseling regarding the use of mangrove potential and mangrove planting practices. The counseling phase was in the form of material delivery and discussion about the potential of mangrove forests and mangrove planting techniques carried out which were carried out at the Tasiwalie Village Hall. The practice of mangrove planting is carried out in the coastal area of Tasiwalie Village, Suppa District. With the extension program and the practice of planting mangroves directly, it is hoped that it can foster knowledge and active role of the community in efforts to conserve mangrove forests.

Makassar Strait is a waters area with a large and relatively fertile water resource potential. The Makassar Strait area represents the confluence zone between the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean fish populations. The fertility of the waters makes this area one of the breeding zones for most aquatic biota. This study aims to map the catch of small pelagic fishes with water conditions in the Makassar Strait. The data used in this study was fish catches data from Makassar Strait waters from June to September 2021. Data on environmental conditions in the form of Sea Surface Temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration in the waters during the study period were obtained from the AQUA satellite with MODIS sensors, then combined with the Geographic Information System (GIS). The results of this study indicate that the sea surface temperature range in Makassar Strait waters was between 26.7°C–31.3°C and the concentration of chlorophyll-a was between 0.7 mg/m³ - 1.30 mg/m³. The highest catch points were at two points with the same catch of the purse seine, namely 4,000 kg at 118°51'E and 5°10'59"S and at 118°52'59"E and 5°3'S, while the lowest catch was 5 kg at 118°19'E and 4°57'S. It can be concluded that the presence of fish may be influenced by the water’s conditions favored by the target fish in the Makassar Strait.

Damage to coral reefs on the coast of Palopo City will certainly threaten their productivity. Therefore, it is essential to use and manage coral reefs in the coastal area of Palopo City by applying the principles of a conservation area management system through integration, participation, and multi-stakeholders. This study aims to analyze the level of damage and the causes of coral reef damage and formulate a strategic model for managing coral reef ecosystems in the coastal area of Palopo City. Methods of data analysis using analysis of coral reef conditions, analysis of patterns of damage to coral reefs, and analysis of the processes' hierarchy. The percentage of live coral cover in the coastal area of Palopo City is categorized as damaged / sour with a percentage value (0–24.9%). One of the causes of damage to coral reefs in the coastal area of Palopo City is the existence of community activities that have damaged coral reefs in the past, such as fishing using non-environmentally friendly fishing gear such as fish bombs and potassium. The highest level of damage to coral reefs was at station 1, with a depth of 4 meters and the percentage of the mortality index was 82.07%. Simultaneously, the lowest level of damage is at station two at a depth of 4 meters, with a mortality index percentage of 69.73%. The first priority strategy in managing coral reef ecosystems on the coast of Palopo City is to determine the zoning of coastal areas. The second priority is coordination between stakeholders. The third priority is the preparation of regional regulations regarding the use of coral reef ecosystems. The fourth priority is to increase training programs for fishing communities.
