Abstract

This study aims to determine the information literacy of students through the use of e-journal in writing a thesis to complete the final assignment. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach through a questionnaire conducted to 155 respondents. The sampling method uses purposive sampling. This study takes the concept of Big6 information literacy developed by Berkowitz and Eisenberg. The questions asked to use the variables of the Big6 results. The results of this study are that student information literacy in the use of e-journal to complete the thesis is classified as 'quite good' as the respondents are already used to using electronic and online based media, but in information retrieval is still low with effectively and efficiently. This is seen from each sub-variable that is submitted through the question items that are answered.

Abstract

Most TOEIC test takers who score low are unfamiliar with the format of the test. This study aims to identify the problems that will likely become obstacles in the Reading Section of the TOEIC test. The data come from the results of the English I online final exam in the second term of 2017/2018 as well as the English II online mid-term and final exam in the first term of 2018/2019, all of which were held in Politeknik Negeri Batam. The exams are part of Moodle-based e-learning courses. The data consist of questions which have a low percentage of correct answers. The analysis was done by classifying the questions based on the five abilities measured in the Reading Section (vocabulary, grammar, specific information, inference, and connection). Based on the analysis, it can be observed that the biggest challenge comes from grammar, while the search for specific information poses little to no problem at all. It means the students still consider Reading Section of TOEIC test requires no special attention.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social media and the argumentative paragraph writing skill of Politeknik Negeri Batam students. This study employs a descriptive method, with 70 students as the research subjects. In this study, students were asked to do a practice in the form of writing an argumentative paragraph. An analysis from the obtained data is then conducted to find out their mastery in composing a paragraph. As the basis for the assessment, scores in unity, coherence, and development aspect were assigned to each paragraph. These three aspects were then collected and summed up to find the mean of the data, which had been grouped and assigned score before, to determine their mastery level in writing an argumentative paragraph. Subsequently, the data were inserted into a table. Based on the table, which recapitulates the mastery level in writing an argumentative paragraph, the results are as follows: 43 % of the students have a high level of mastery, with 58 % of them having access to social media; 37 % of the students are in the medium level of mastery, with 28 % of them having access to social media; 20 % is in the low level of mastery, with 13 % of them having access to social media. The results of this study show that students who are active in social media have the ability to write a good argumentative paragraph. This might be due to the fact that activities in social media enhance their writing skill, which is closely related to the four aspects of language competencies, which consist of observing, reading, listening, and writing.

Abstract

Pancasila is the basis of the Indonesian state which can be relevant in various scientific fields. Among other things in the field of information and technology which is currently developing rapidly coupled with the revolution of Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0. The revolution is closely related to technological development innovations, as well as the competence of Human Resources. So that Pancasila is very important to take part in improving human resource capabilities, especially in terms of soft skills.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the level of information literacy of first-year students across different studies offered by major at Polytechnic Negeri Batam. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach through a questionnaire conducted to 93 respondents. The sampling method uses purposive sampling. This study takes ALA concept of information literacy which are standard 1 about to able to identify a personal need for information, standard 2 about can access current knowledge and idnetify gaps, standard 3 is about can construct strategies for location information and data and standard 5 is about can review research process and compare and evaluate information and data. The results of this study are that level of student’s information literacy are in Good level. This level get results are 54% of correspondents, 42% satisfactory, low is 3% and only 1% got very satisfactory. This mostly can be showed by how they can review research process, compare and evaluate information and data.

Abstract

APM is an Innovation in 2017 implemented at the Immigration class II Tanjung Balai Karimun Office in making an Indonesian passport. People complain about the new system. Generally, there is a lot of files that need to be prepared and confused to run the procedure. the development of technology can answer these complaints through various media. One of the media that can be used is Interactive Multimedia. Through this media, people can be guided in preparing files and carrying procedures under the activities carried out at the immigration office. therefore, the model is applied in the form of simulation.This research applies the ADDIE model so that the implementation started with a needs analysis, system design based on needs, media development, implementation and evaluation of the applied media. the results of the study are: (1)The results of the needs analysis regarding information on submitting an application for an Indonesian passport there are 69.87% of applicants not yet aware of the passport application procedures through the APM application; (2)Interactive multimedia about the Indonesian passport application simulation using the APM application produced as one of the information media for the community by applying the ADDIE model packaged in format (SWF) and (exe), applying the navigation button feature for user interactivity, content format in the form of text, images, and 2D animation video’s; (3)Formative and summative evaluation results enable interactive multimedia as a learning medium to assist the community in completing files and applying for an Indonesian passport in accordance with actual implementation at the immigration office.

Abstract

The developmet of technology are increasingly advanced changing aspects of education for the students’ teaching and learning process. Based on the 2013 curriculum in mathematics learning for SDIT Fajar Ilahi 2 class IV there are fraction materials. The subject matter of mathematics learning in school is still less interesting with learning method such as lectures. This interactive multimedia fraction material is used as an alternative learning media equipped with fractions in the form of text, images, and animations. The interactive multimedia is made using the MDLC (Multimedia Development Life Cycle) method with 6 stages. Namely concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, and distribution. The interactive multimedia testing consists of validating media experts and material experts, testing normality, and testing paired sampel t-tests. The results of the interactive multimedia material fractions with the assessment of media experts get 89,7% percentage in the category of very decent. The assessment from material experts get a percentage of 94,81% in the very feasible category. While the paired sample t-test found a significance value of 0,000 < 0,05, the use of interactive multimedia fraction material is very useful in grade IV elementary school. It is clear that this product can achieve the objcetives of this research.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal how people's behavior after watching the soap opera Anak Langit and what are the factors that cause people's behavior to change after watching the soap opera Anak Langit. In addition, this study will also look at how violations that occur in Anak Langit soap operas are based on broadcasting regulations in Indonesia. This research will explore the existing problems using Cultivation Theory where this theory assumes that television exposure impacts on the community. This theory is based on Gerbner's thought which conveys that the continued exposure of the media will give an idea and influence on the perception of the viewer. That is, as long as viewers make contact with television they will learn about the world, change their perception of the world, learn to behave and people's values. This study uses qualitative methods, where researchers conduct literature studies, observations and interviews to approach and explore research problems. Based on this research it can be seen that the soap opera Anak Langit has a negative impact on some of its audience. This is because many violations occur, if guided by broadcasting regulations in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article reports on a case study designed to examine the implementation of flipped classroom in the EFL classroom in Taiwan. In addition, students’ perception of flipped classroom was also investigated. Sixty-one senior high school students participated in this study; data were gathered from students’ English midterm exam score and questionnaire. The data then were quantitatively analyzed by using T-test and descriptive statistics. The results show that students’ English proficiency in flipped classroom was not significantly different with students in traditional classroom. However, the results reveal that students’ perception of flipped classroom were generally favorable. Students’ contended that flipped classroom enhanced their motivation in learning English, as they liked the self-pace through the course and they stated that flipped classroom gave them more class time to practice English. The results presented here may facilitate improvements in the implementation of flipped classroom in EFL class. Furthermore, suggestions for further research are also presented.

Abstract

The ideology of Pancasila as a way of life, the basis of the state, and national identity has a various challenge from time to time so that the existence of Pancasila as an Ideology must be maintained, especially in industrial revolution 4.0. The research method used is a qualitative approach by doing study of literature. In data collection the writer used documentation while in techniques data analysis used content analysis, inductive and descriptive. Results of the research about challenges and strengthening of the Pancasila Ideology in facing the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 are: (1) grounding Pancasila, (2) increasing professional human resources based on Pancasila’s values, (3) maintaining the existence of Pancasila as the State Ideology.
