Abstract

This study aims to obtain a geological model which is close to the truth and compare accuracy between the time domain 3D image of the PSTM results with the depth domain 3D image of PSDM results. There are 3 parameters to determine the accuracy of an interval velocity model in the production of a geology model: depth gathering that is already flat, semblance that has concurred with zero residual move-out axes, and depth image which conforms to the marker (well seismic tie). The analytical method employed is Horizon Based Tomography, which is a method to correct the seismic wave travel time error along the analyzed horizon. Reducing errors in the travel time of the seismic wave will decrease depth errors. This improvement is expected to provide correct information about subsurface geological conditions. The results showed that the depth domain image generated by the PSDM process represents the actual geological model better than time domain image produced by the PSTM process, evidenced by the sharpening of the reflector continuity, reduction of pull-up effect, and high resolution.

Abstract

Most TOEIC test takers who score low are unfamiliar with the format of the test. This study aims to identify the problems that will likely become obstacles in the Reading Section of the TOEIC test. The data come from the results of the English I online final exam in the second term of 2017/2018 as well as the English II online mid-term and final exam in the first term of 2018/2019, all of which were held in Politeknik Negeri Batam. The exams are part of Moodle-based e-learning courses. The data consist of questions which have a low percentage of correct answers. The analysis was done by classifying the questions based on the five abilities measured in the Reading Section (vocabulary, grammar, specific information, inference, and connection). Based on the analysis, it can be observed that the biggest challenge comes from grammar, while the search for specific information poses little to no problem at all. It means the students still consider Reading Section of TOEIC test requires no special attention.

Abstract

The identification of the administrative area maps is done using the data from boundary mapping conducted by field workers. This mapping was carried out with a process of field survey and renewal of the position of the boundaries of the area. These regional boundaries will be processed by supporting applications (QGIS). Maps are simply presented as a description of the area of information placed in the form of territorial boundaries. This research aims to update the statistical data map used to calculate the population in the research area. The regional apparatuses (District, Sub District,) serve as a starting point for mapping processing and as information on the smoothness of the 2020 population census. The processing produces administrative boundary data that has been updated from the previous map in the form of gender and infrastructure (facilities and infrastructure), the number of residents per District, the area per District and the location of astronomical lines in the region. Based on the mapping identification results, there are several boundaries of the area whose position has been shifted due to two factors, namely changes by natural factors and changes by human activities as well as a discrepancy between Digital Maps and Analog Maps. Then it is necessary to map administrative areas that are in accordance with the application of satellite imagery (SW Maps) which are represented in vector format.

Abstract

In order to write an abstract that appeals to a broader audience, it is important to understand the vocabulary used in the context. By identifying words used in the abstracts of undergraduate thesis from Politeknik Negeri Batam students and comparing them with those used in other academic writings, this research attempts to show that developing student’s awareness of academic writing genre is critical for their progress. The data were taken from the abstract section of undergraduate thesis of Politeknik Negeri Batam students published in 2018, which were compiled into a corpus. From the corpus, the keywords and word profile would be identified, which could then be compared to other corpora. Two word lists (New General Service List and New Academic Word List) were selected as the level lists in carrying out word profiling during the analysis. The results show that the students lacked the necessary words and had not yet recognized the genre of academic writing.

Abstract

The shift from an industrial city to a tourist city in Batam may have a negative impact on the sustainability of its coastal environment, one of which is on Mubut Darat, which is planned to become a tourist destination. In addition to science, there is a need for a cultural approach through ecocriticism to reduce and prevent the negative impact of damage to the environment, disguised under the need for development. It is clear that humans are part of nature and the dualism of culture and nature is one of the main issues in ecocriticism. The main purpose of this article is to explore the perspective of the local community regarding the development of tourist villages and the problems of damage to the environment that goes along with it. The data were obtained through interviews with the managers of Mubut Darat beach and Batam Pos crews. Through the interview, informants are invited to participate in a dialogue, receive feedbacks, and express their opinions. The resulting short story is published in the form of a short story in Batam Pos’ Zetizen column as a medium to promote Mubut Darat beach and offer readers perspective on environmental issues. According to the interview, the characters, plot, and setting of the story are interesting and easy to understand. However, the issue of environment is not suitable to be conveyed through the genre of romance.

Abstract

This community service activity explores ways to improve the economy of farmer households through an electronic system for definitive plans for the needs of farmer groups and the role of women farmer groups through sustainable use of food plots. By coordinating this program, the synergy between agricultural activities is created to achieve broader goals regarding food security and sustainable natural resource management. Challenges such as limited access to subsidized fertilizers encourage the use of E-RDKK, which requires farmer collaboration for effective planning and distribution. Optimizing P2L is an alternative for sustainable food production in the home garden. Reduce dependence on external resources such as subsidized fertilizer and strengthen local food security. This activity was carried out using an open questionnaire before (pre-test) and after (post-test) lecture sessions, discussion sessions, and training sessions. Next, the team continued with a focus group discussion (FGD) session for the follow-up stage of the training. Then, proceed with evaluation using a qualitative approach to thematic analysis techniques and cross-tabulation. The team looked for themes that emerged from the questionnaire response data and recorded the FGD transcripts. Apart from that, data organization was also carried out with the help of the MAXQDA 2020 Application. This activity provides insight into how the RDKK and P2L programs can be an essential tool in improving the economy of farmer households through sustainable food security at the local level, primarily through community-based land management strategies. The policy recommendations and sustainable practices resulting from this activity will support similar efforts in other regions in Indonesia that face the same challenges.
