Abstract

The existence of the learning media nowadays is more developed in media technology as well as its delivery. Generally, learning media in elementary level is still using conventional method and focus on text only. Because of this condition, it is very important to have alternative media which is more interesting to be used, in this case, a learning media was proposed as the media for introducing parts of body for elementary students. For developing this application, parts of body could be introduced based on learning material in curriculum 2013. It was also developed by using Godfrey method. It can be significantly used for introducing parts of body in English for grade 1-2. It could be very helpful for the teachers or students where they don’t only use lecture method but it can be use as one of alternative media. This 2D learning media was designed by using adobe flash CS6, Action Script 3. Based on the learning media testing, there are 89,41% who agreed that this application for English learning as the introduction for parts of body is easy to be used.

Abstract

One of the purpose information technology nowadays is to deliver the information in an interesting way. For example, the using of animation tend to be more interesting to present the information. This project created a 2D animation for introducing Nirmana. Some steps were conducted to finish this product starting with creating the storyboard namely finding the idea and arranging the synopsis, continuing with creating the character sketch and storyboard. After completing this step, the next step is making animation by using Adobe After Effect Software. It is started with editing and composing based on the scene by using Adobe Premiere Pro. Project software. For the final step, the researcher intends to test the using this 2D animation by applying motion graphics as the media for teaching Nirmana to the children. This 2D animation is presented with a colorful layout and completed by voice effect for getting the children’s attention.

Abstract

The developmet of technology are increasingly advanced changing aspects of education for the students’ teaching and learning process. Based on the 2013 curriculum in mathematics learning for SDIT Fajar Ilahi 2 class IV there are fraction materials. The subject matter of mathematics learning in school is still less interesting with learning method such as lectures. This interactive multimedia fraction material is used as an alternative learning media equipped with fractions in the form of text, images, and animations. The interactive multimedia is made using the MDLC (Multimedia Development Life Cycle) method with 6 stages. Namely concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, and distribution. The interactive multimedia testing consists of validating media experts and material experts, testing normality, and testing paired sampel t-tests. The results of the interactive multimedia material fractions with the assessment of media experts get 89,7% percentage in the category of very decent. The assessment from material experts get a percentage of 94,81% in the very feasible category. While the paired sample t-test found a significance value of 0,000 < 0,05, the use of interactive multimedia fraction material is very useful in grade IV elementary school. It is clear that this product can achieve the objcetives of this research.

Abstract

Representations of public life in recalling past events or history can be found, among others, in 3D animated films. An interpretation of connotative meaning, as the second layer meaning, arises when a symbol is associated with its psychological aspects, such as feelings, emotions, or beliefs, which are closely related to culture, knowledge, and history. This study aims to interpret symbols in the Kenangan Mengusik Jiwa episode of Upin & Ipin animated film for their denotative and connotative meaning to better understand the context of the story and the moral message conveyed. A questionnaire was used in this research to increase validity. In processing questionnaire data, a calculation is conducted using the Likert scale. The results of the study indicate that the main moral message conveyed in this episode is to never forget history or established culture. This interpretation is supported by results from questionnaire data.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop interactive multimedia namely Smile English that can be used as the media for learning reading especially for self-preparation on the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) material. This reading interactive media used a simulation model. This idea exploded after observing and collecting the data in the internal environment of Politeknik Negeri Batam Based on the placement test, it was found that about 540 (49,23%) of Polibatam students' test were categorized into the intermediate level and the rest were elementary and novice level. It means that the students need to improve their preparation before taking the test to an accomplished better score. Smile English was developed by using R and D research. In this case, the researcher followed the step of the Luther-Sutopo method which was started from concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, and distribution. It was designed using Adobe Flash software which in this software combined text, sound, and animation. The research result showed that the implementation of Smile English was successful to help the students in preparing themselves for the TOEIC test. Therefore, 60 students from Politeknik Negeri Batam had a good result in joining the TOEIC test, especially for the reading section.

Abstract

The Betawi culture is increasingly marginalized because Jakarta is experiencing rapid urbanization, excessive so that the onset of competition in the world of work and many people Were going to leave his hometown to which many have worked such as Batam city. Batam city is one of the cities with high economic growth rates so that Betawi people come to Batam for getting job. Based on an initial survey, it shows that Betawi culture is not really famous among the citizens in Batam. This research aims to make a documentary film to provide information that is more apparent in dissemination to the public of the Betawi and Batam City Community. The film is a cinematographic technique which provides information used in the filming of documentaries. The film is packed into a CD that will be submitted to the Chairman of the Betawi forum in Batam and society Betawi of Batam City Community. Based on the try out, this film is well received and successfully gives information about the culture of the Betawi non Betawi and Betawi that exist in Batam city.

Abstract

One of the levels of education for early childhood is Kindergarten. The presence and development of technology has a considerable influence on the development of learning media that utilizes video-based media. The use of video as a medium for learning color recognition in English in Kindergarten is expected to enhance childrens’ understanding. The aim of this research was to develop learning media to recognize colors in English through the implementation of motion graphics and to convey material about color in English through learning media in the form of motion graphics that have been made. This product was developed using the Luther Sutopo method and distributed to Ibn Khaldun's Islamic Kindergarten. Previously, a test was conducted where it was found that this media was very good to use and it was proven that the students' average score had increased by learning to use this media.

Abstract

Nowadays, English should be mastered by all level of people and for all ages namely for children, teenagers or adults. There is a special challenge for improving the ability especially for hinterland society. For Rempang Cate citizen which is one of tourism destination in Batam, it is still far from the expectation. The idea of this community service is to improve the communication as the tourist destination host especially English for tourism. Finally, by giving this training to them, it is expected that they are able to attract more tourst to visit this place. The method of this community service is by giving training to three levels of class by providing material related to simple conversation fo tourism. Based on general result of questionnaire, everything ran well and no obstacles and difficulties happened to organize this training. It was very helpful to improve the readiness of the society to welcome the tourist.

Abstract

The English communication skill of people in Pasir Panjang in the context of tourism and trade is still inadequate. To support trade activities, English communication skill is required, especially for those who run business, such as traders as well as other service providers. For this reason, this community service activity was carried out in the form of training. The materials consists of an introduction to vocabulary and idiom commonly found in the context of tourism and trade activities. In this training, several learning media was used to increase participants' interest in learning. Through the delivery of English communication training, it is hoped that communication in English related to tourism and trade can take place more effectively. For the people of Pasir Panjang, an increased confidence level is another benefit that can be acquired through mastery of English, which is considered to hold high prestige by most Indonesians. From the activity that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the media are effective in the delivery of the material. This is evident from the opinion of most participants stating the media are interesting and helps them in learning English.

Abstract

The terror of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic that is happening right now becomes more and more intimidating with the rapid circulation of information in massive quantities about this outbreak. Of the various news coming out every day, some are valuable, others might be less useful. However, some of them may cause more harm than good. The problem is how to sort the incoming information and determine whether it is reliable. In this community service project, a public service announcement will be produced with the intention of informing the public about some rumors and misconceptions that have been spreading in society. It is hoped that the announcement will unravel the truth and clear any confusion that is happening. The content of the announcement is based on the Myth Busters page on the official WHO website. It will then be broadcasted by Batam TV. To find out how the viewers perceive the public service announcement, an online survey is conducted, which can be accessed by the viewers by scanning the QR code displayed at the end of the announcement. The results of the survey show that most viewers consider the announcement easy to understand, useful, up to date, and motivating, in addition to having a good mix of attractive colors and clear sound. However, public service announcements on local television channels are no longer the main source of information for citizens of Batam, especially in the context of COVID-19.
