Abstract

One of the very issues in the world today that has always been on the front burner is that of human rights.  Nationally and internationally, this issue has been a problem to world leaders.  This is because the way and manner human rights is handled by either the government agencies, institutions and even individuals is such in a sorry state.  The worst is that of the right of the disabled ones among us.  They are inhumanly discriminated against due to their physical or mental state.  They are not given access to certain facilities, employment, education, etc.  In Nigeria as a case study in this research, this has been played out for a long time despite the laws in place to curb this situation.  The disabled are not given equal opportunities to vote, accessing public facilities, equal employment, etc.  This work therefore is an examination of the practice of discrimination against the disabled in Nigeria where they are denied their basic rights on the basis of their condition.  Looking at this situation, it is believed that if in Nigeria, we have to comply with the legislations on ground as well as the various international laws and treaties that Nigeria is a signatory to, the issue of human rights of the disabled will be well practiced.

Abstract

The significance of Epistemology (theory of knowledge) is well known in philosophy. Hardly do we find a philosophical system without epistemology. Almost every major philosophical system has its distinct epistemological and metaphysical theses. Accordingly, if tribal philosophy is to be counted as a major system of philosophy, it is more likely that it has its distinct epistemological and metaphysical theses. In other words, if we can have a tribal epistemology distinguished from the other epistemological systems, then, we can expect to have a tribal philosophical system distinguished from other philosophical systems. To aim at the construction of a new epistemology and new philosophy, namely, tribal epistemology is very ambitious. It demands path-breaking inquiries into both epistemology and tribal culture such that a new epistemology and, along with it, a new system of philosophy can be established. I do not claim of making any such path-breaking inquiries in this work. However, I attempt to defend the idea that there can be a tribal epistemology distinct from other epistemological systems and, hence, do defend the idea of a philosophical system that can be called a tribal system of philosophy or “tribal philosophy”. Neither tribal epistemology nor tribal philosophy has been established as a major area of investigation in philosophy. In this work, I defended the very idea of a tribal epistemology with the objective that further philosophical investigations into the tribal knowledge systems can be fruitfully carried out on a plausible strong theoretical ground.

Abstract

Nigeria has practiced uninterrupted democracy from 1999 to date. She has however, little to show for this long practice of what was hitherto perceived as the harbinger of good things. This paper argues that the slow growth of democracy in Nigeria, has nothing to do with a defect in democracy itself, but with the nature of Nigerians. Democracy viewed on its own is good, but the way it is practiced in Nigeria has made it not to flourish. The paper recommends steps to be taken by all Nigerians, in order to consolidate democracy and to reposition it for future dividend delivery.

Abstract

Art has been a traditional marketing tool for ages. Visual and performing arts have been used for publicity, advertising, and marketing promotions in many media. With the advent of the internet and the integration of digital technology into the marketing process, the scope of marketing and its networks have extended. Technology has ushered in new-age marketing, which is the use of online and offline platforms to market goods, services, and ideas. Consequently, the extent of engagement of the arts in the process of marketing has expanded to address emerging needs. New-age marketing is electronically driven, with graphic arts as one of its central pivots. The graphic designer is therefore tasked to combine artistic skills with the offerings of digital technology, including social media networks towards attracting patronage from local and global domains. This paper reviews the structure and functionality of arts in general marketing; the increasing relevance of digital graphics in the complex of new-age marketing and strategies required to attract patronage for products, services, and ideas.

Abstract

Gandhi's concept of nonviolence has a humanistic approach. He tried to change the very character of every Indian in the society where he lived. He said that man is basically a violent being, but gradually he can become non-violent if he desires. He recognizes that man is a conditional being and as such subject to the determination of the physical world. The ultimate end in man's life for Gandhi is realizing the Absolute. Pertinent to note that, Gandhi had spent quite some time in his tutelage in Southern Africa where his experiences impelled him to adopt non-violence as the only paradigm to overcome oppression and domination in his country India. British oppression and inhumanity were so severe and intensive that Gandhi was cautious about the use of violence, alternatively, he adopted non-violence to be the only imperative paradigm to dislodge the domination and inhumane treatment of the British against the Indians in South Africa. In this respect, I recommend Gandhi's non-violence principles as a fundamental paradigm towards peace in Africa. Peace in Africa is imperative for human and societal development especially as one sees Africa grappling with instabilities, insurgencies, terrorism, xenophobia, political upheavals, nepotism and gender agitations. In this article, I recognize Gandhi’s postulations on non-violence as an initiative which if adopted and its dictates are adhered to, could enhance peace in Africa.
