Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease that can affect various organs and often leads to psychological stress. Spiritual Emotional Transcendence Care (SET Care), which integrates the SEFT approach with self-transcendence theory, is a relaxation technique aimed at reducing stress in TB patients.  Methods: This quasi-experimental study used a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 20 pulmonary TB patients were selected through purposive sampling and divided into treatment (n=10) and control (n=10) groups. Stress levels were measured using a modified DASS-42 stress subscale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney U test with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. Results: Demographic data showed equal gender distribution (50% male, 50% female), with most participants aged 44–55 years and educated up to senior high school. A significant reduction in stress levels was found in the treatment group after the intervention (p = 0.004), while the control group showed no significant change (p = 0.655). The Mann-Whitney U test confirmed a significant difference in post-test scores between groups (p = 0.000). Conclusions: SET Care effectively reduces stress in pulmonary TB patients and can be considered a complementary nursing intervention. Its integration into nursing practice supports holistic care by addressing emotional and spiritual well-being, potentially enhancing treatment adherence and patient outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescence is referred to as a transitional period towards adulthood or puberty which is marked by the occurrence of the first menstruation (menarche). Menstruation experienced by adolescent girls mostly causes pain called dysmenorrhea, although this is normal due to the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins will stimulate the smooth muscles of the uterine wall to contract. The higher the prostaglandin levels, the stronger the contractions will be, and the pain will also be stronger. This study aims to analyze the effect of abdominal stretching exercise therapy on the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls.  Methods: The research design used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental research design, namely pre-post test with control group design. The population in this study were junior high school students, sampling using purpose sampling technique with a total sample of 66 respondents (33 intervention groups and 33 control groups) taken according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The independent variable of the study was the abdominal stretching exercise technique and the dependent variable was the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain. Abdominal stretching exercise therapy was given using standard operating procedures and pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS).  Results: The research data were statistically tested using the Wilcoxon test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results of the study showed that there was a significant effect of abdominal stretching exercise techniques on the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain with a value of p=0.000 (p<0.05). Conclusion: Abdominal stretching exercise intervention is effective to be applied in solving pain problems in adolescent girls who experience dysmenorrhea. Future research should explore the long-term effects and sustainability of abdominal stretching exercises in managing dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls, including variations in frequency, intensity, and duration of the intervention.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and is often complicated by malnutrition and muscle wasting, which adversely affect prognosis. Although nutritional therapy has been recommended as part of comprehensive COPD care, the effectiveness of recent interventions has not been systematically evaluated. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the impact of nutritional therapy on clinical, functional, and patient-centered outcomes in individuals with COPD.  Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, we searched Scopus, PubMed, EBSCO, and Nature for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between January 2020 and June 2025. Eligible studies included adult patients with COPD who received nutritional interventions. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane RoB 2 tool. From 252 screened records, 13 RCTs involving 2,962 participants were included. Given the heterogeneity across interventions and outcomes, the findings were synthesized narratively.  Results: The interventions included oral nutritional supplements, high-energy formulas, individualized dietary counseling, vitamin D, ω-3 fatty acids, and multi-nutrient combinations. Seven studies reported significant improvements in quality of life, six demonstrated gains in weight and nutritional status, and three showed increased muscle strength. Two trials observed enhanced physical activity, whereas both vitamin D studies found no overall protective effect against exacerbations, except in patients with severe deficiencies. The risk of bias was low in eight studies and raised concerns in five. Overall, the strength of evidence was moderate, limited by heterogeneity, and inconsistent outcome reporting. Conclusion: Nutritional therapy improves nutritional status and selected clinical outcomes in patients with COPD. Standardized, adequately powered RCTs are warranted to establish optimal protocols and to confirm long-term benefits.

Abstract

Introduction: Patients with acute myocardial infarction remain at risk of sudden deterioration after transfer from the intensive care unit to the general ward, highlightingthe importance of strict monitoring, careful transfer-readiness assessment, and vigilantnursing observation to prevent fatal outcomes. Objective: This case study aims to describe the nursing care of a patient with STEMI duringICCU and the transition from the ICCU to the general ward.Case: A 58-year-old woman was admitted to the ICCU after PCI with ST-elevationmyocardial infarction (STEMI) and cardiogenic shock. She had a medical history ofhypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia, with no history of chest pain or smoking.Supporting examinations revealed elevated leukocyte count, troponin I, random bloodglucose, and prothrombin time. The patient also experienced metabolic acidosis andcardiomegaly, while electrocardiography demonstrated inferior ST-segment elevation. Thepatient received oxygen therapy, intravenous fluids, vasoactive support, diuretics, anticoagulants, antiplatelets, statins, and insulin. Conclusions: After four days of treatment in the ICCU, the patient was transferred to the general ward in a stable condition. However, she subsequently developed recurrent chestpain while eating, followed by cardiac arrest, and died despite 30 minutes ofcardiopulmonary resuscitation. This case emphasizes the need for standardized clinicalassessment before transferring patients with acute myocardial infarction from the ICCU tothe general ward. It also highlights the importance of close monitoring during the first 24hours after transfer to ensure early detection of clinical deterioration and to reduce the riskof fatal outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: In 2023, a total of 12 cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) were reported in the Sungai Laur Public Health Center area, accompanied by a low larval-freerate (ABJ) of 33.33%. This condition indicates a high risk of dengue transmission due to thepresence of mosquito breeding sites. Community knowledge plays a crucial role inpreventing and controlling DHF, as informed individuals are more likely to engage ineffective vector control practices. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the level ofcommunity knowledge regarding DHF prevention in the Sungai Laur Public Health Centerarea. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. The samplingtechnique used was accidental sampling, involving 92 respondents residing in the SungaiLaur Public Health Center area. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire thatmeasured respondents’ knowledge related to DHF prevention strategies, includingenvironmental management and mosquito control measures. Data analysis was conductedusing univariate analysis to describe the distribution of knowledge levels amongparticipants. Results: The findings revealed that the majority of respondents, 54 individuals (58.7%),demonstrated good knowledge regarding DHF prevention. Meanwhile, 38 respondents(41.3%) were categorized as having poor knowledge. These results indicate that althoughmore than half of the community possesses adequate knowledge, a substantial proportionstill lacks sufficient understanding. Conclusion: Overall, the community in the Sungai Laur Public Health Center area shows arelatively good level of knowledge regarding DHF prevention. However, continuous effortsfrom health service personnel are essential to monitor, educate, and promote sustainablepreventive behaviors to further reduce the risk of DHF transmission.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. This study aimed to analyze risk factors influencing the length of hospital stay (LOS) among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) at Universitas Airlangga Hospital in 2023.   Methods: A quantitative observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using secondary data from 75 inpatient medical records. Survival analysis methods, including Kaplan–Meier estimation and Cox proportional hazards regression, were applied to evaluate factors associated with LOS.   Results: The mean LOS was 3.89 ± 3.22 days, and the mean age was 58.37 ± 11.16 years. Patients aged >65 years had a longer LOS (5.64 days) compared to younger groups. Based on the Cox regression model, age was identified as the only variable that significantly influenced LOS (p < 0.05), with younger patients having a higher probability of earlier discharge.   Conclusion: In conclusion, age is a significant predictor of hospitalization duration in T2DM patients. These findings highlight the importance of age-specific management strategies to optimize hospital resource utilization and patient outcomes

Abstract

Introduction: Mortality among ICU patients remains high and is influenced by multiple factors, including nutritional status. Malnutrition may worsen clinical outcomes and increase the risk of death. This study aimed to examine the relationship between nutritional status and mortality in ICU patients. Method: A retrospective correlational study was conducted among adult patients (≥18 years) admitted to the ICU of a hospital in Surabaya between May and December 2023. A total of 185 patients were selected using a total sampling technique. Nutritional status was assessed using Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) scores and disease severity was measured using APACHE II. Mortality outcomes were determined based on patient status at ICU discharge and categorized into predefined mortality risk levels. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: Increasing age was significantly associated with higher mortality, with patients aged >65 years showing the highest proportion of high mortality (55.2%; r = 0.62; p < 0.001). Gender was also significantly associated with mortality (r = 0.21; p = 0.041), with males demonstrating a higher proportion of high mortality than females (40.4% vs 29.6%). Nutritional status showed a moderate positive correlation with mortality (r = 0.55; p < 0.001), with higher malnutrition risk associated with increased mortality. Conclusion: Nutritional status is significantly associated with mortality among ICU patients. Early nutritional assessment and appropriate management are essential to improve clinical outcomes and support evidence-based critical care practice.
