Abstract

Pemanenan  kayu  mempunyai  peranan  penting  dalam  menentukan  kualitas  produksi  kayu  bulat. Dua hal penting dalam proses pemanenan kayu adalah faktor pemanfaatan dan limbah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi sebaran, bentuk, dan kondisi limbah pemanenan serta menghitung besarnya faktor pemanfatan kayu dan faktor residu akibat pemanenan kayu. Penelitian dilakukan di dua  areal  pengusahaan  hutan  alam  di  Kabupaten  Wasior  dan  Nabire,  Provinsi  Papua  Barat.  Hasil penelitian  menunjukkan  bahwa  faktor  pemanfaatan  kayu  pada  IUPHHK-HA  yang  menerapkan teknik Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) cenderung lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan IUPHHK-HA yang pemanenan kayunya masih dilakukan secara konvensional. Faktor pemanfaatan kayu berkisar antara 86,2 – 87,8% dengan rata-rata 86,9%, dan faktor residu berkisar 12,3 – 13,8% atau rata-rata 13,1%. Besarnya volume kayu yang dimanfaatkan rata-rata 4,578 m3/pohon dari potensi batang bebas cabang sebesar 5,293 m3/pohon. Volume limbah berkisar antara 0,548 – 0,664 m3/pohon atau rata-rata 0,564 m3/pohon. Secara umum, sebagian besar limbah penebangan berupa  kayu yang cacat (65,1%), pecah (23,3%), dan paling rendah adalah limbah yang kondisinya masih baik (11,6%).

Abstract

Produktivitas, biaya sarad, dan pembuatan/pemeliharaan kanal memegang peranan penting dalam kegiatan pemanenan kayu di hutan tanaman rawa gambut, karena hal ini dapat menentukan efisiensi pemanenan kayunya. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni tahun 2011 di PT Arara Abadi, Riau dan bulan Juli 2011 di PT Wirakarya Sakti (WKS), Jambi. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui produktivitas dan biaya sarad dan kanal di hutan tanaman rawa gambut. Data lapangan berupa produktivitas dan biaya penyaradan dan pemeliharaan/pembuatan kanal diolah ke dalam bentuk tabulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa : 1. Produktivitas sarad rata-rata untuk Petak ukur (PU) I, II, dan III masing-masing 12,42; 13,77; 15,32, m3/jam (Jambi) dan 11,46; 13,04; 15,13 m3/jam (Riau), 2. Biaya sarad rata-rata untuk PU I, II, dan III masing-masing Rp 28.306/m3, Rp 25.483/m3, Rp 22.843/m3 (Jambi) dan Rp 30.592/m3, Rp 26.834/m3, Rp 23.158/m3 (Riau), dan 3. Biaya kanal rata-rata untuk PU I, II, dan III masing-masing Rp 13.623/m, Rp 13.189/m, Rp 13.048/m (Jambi) dan Rp 9.670/m, Rp 9.630/m, Rp 9.431/m (Riau). Abstract

Dranco  (Dry Anaerobic Conversion) process  is anaerobic  fermentation to produce biogas and paste  residue.  Through pressing,   the  residue  will yield  solid compost (humotex) and liquid compost  (Dranco  liquid). The aim of  this inveatigation is  to know   the  effect   of  the  utilization  of dranco   liquid  when applying it as compost  either  the  effect   on  soil or plant.The  results  showed  that  Dranco  liquid  contained very  low P.  Ca, Mg,  Fe, Mn.  Zn  and  heavy  metals Kj-N,  K and Na   were also  low  but  high enough   when  comparing  with  other nutrients in Dranco  liquid.  The NH4+ was ranked  as high.Addition  of  Dronco  liquid  brought about  an increase  of  E.C  3 - 6 times  depends on  soil  types  ,and liquid  concen- trotion, while soil pH  increased  1.5 -  2 level. The highest growth of maize  was achieved when  soil was mixed with  Dranco  liquid  that  was diluted  2 -  10  times.  Besides,  addition of  Draneo  liquid can maintain  the life of  maize plant  under  water lacking  condition.  Addition  of  Drenco   liquid  increased soil  agregate  stability   2 - 2 0 times  depends  on  soil  types and Dranco   liquid  concentration.  Nitrification process  was  able  to  convert   NH4+  in  the  Dranco liquid   to  N03-  with an  efficicncy  capacity  of  35 %. As a conclusion,  Dranco  liquid is useful to be used as compost liquid  for increasing  soil fertility  as well as promoting plant  growth.

Abstract

The media used in the experiment were sawdust of eight wood species mixed with 1% calcium carbonate (CaC03), 1% gypsum, 0.5% fertilizers i.e. urea, ammonium sulphate (ZA), KCL, NPK and trisuperphosphate (TSP) and distilled water, respectively. The substrate was cooled after autoclave sterilization before being inoculated with pure culture of oyster mushroom. The mature mushrooms were harvested daily after the growth of fruiting body.The media started producing mushroom two months after inoculation (28 - 45 days). The highest yield was obtained from rubberwood sawdust mixed with ZA (362.43 g) and the lowest yield was on teak sawdust containing urea (90.14 g) per 500 grams media. Media from rubberwood, weru, jeungjing and pulai sawdust were suitable for mushroom culture. Fertilizer supplement seems to improve mushroom yield. ZA, urea were more effective than KCL fertilizer for mushroom production.The average Biological Efficiency (BE) of entire treatments was 84.32% (35.25-140.23%). The relatively high BE was obtained from weru, rubber and jeungjing and the lowest BE was on teak sawdust media.

Abstract

The  laboratory   test  of  strength  properties   of pine  particleboard subtituted  with 0,  20, 40 and 60 percent of pine bark, glued  with  8, 10, and  12 percent   liquid  urea formaldehvde    (by particle  dry  weight  basis) is reported   in  this paper.  Pine  wood  and  its  bark  were obtained   from West Java.                                                                                                                                                    The result  shows  that  the substitution with  bark of  20,  40,  and  60 percent   of pine   wood  particle  improved   water absorption   and  thickness- swelling  properties;   however,  it decreased  mechanical properties of particleboard.  Particleboard with  high  bark  content   has lower  mechanical  properties   than  that  with  low  bark content.   The physical   and  mechanical properties   of  particleboard   that  is subtiuuted  with  20 and  40%  bark and  10 and  12%  urea-formaldehyde resin meet the FAO   standard   for   medium   density   particleboard,  except for,  modulus of rupture. If   we  compared  with  Indonesian standard,  the properties  that do not  meet  the standard  are the modulus  of rupture  and the internal  bond strength

Abstract

An investigation on the “exploitation  factor"  in the natural dipterocarp forest of Pulau Laut, South Kalimantan was carried out in 1981.  Sixty tree with a diameter at breat  height from 50  to 160  cm were selected at a sample from the stands in north and central Pulau Laut.                                                                                                                                  From the investigation the following conclusions are in order  : The logging waste in the natural dipterocarp forest of Pulau Laut is 20 percent, with a standard error of 1,4 percent. Exploitation factor in the Pulau Laut natural dipterocarp forest ranges from 76,8 to 82,4 percent, averaging 80 percent.The volumes of the trees obtained by estimating the diameters at breast height and the heights of the clear boles are consistanly smaller than those obtained by measuring the dimateres and lengths of the clear boles after the trees were cut especially in hilly forests. Both diameter and clear bole length have significant effect on exploitation factor, their relationship being quadratic.Optimum diameter for highest yield is approximately 77 cm. This however, requires further research especially in relation with silviculture and felling cycle.

Abstract

Pemesinan kayu adalah proses pengolahan kayu menjadi produk-produk seperti kayu gergajian, vinir dan meubel. Kualitas pemesinan kayu akan menentukan kualitas produk kayu. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat pemesinan kayu surian dan kepayang asal Sulawesi. Pengujian sifat pemesinan mengacu pada ASTM D 1666-64 meliputi aspek uji penyerutan, pembentukan, pembubutan, pemboran dan pengampelasan. Mutu hasil pemesinan dinilai dari persentasi cacat yang muncul setelah proses pemesinan yang selanjutnya ditetapkan dalam lima kelas mutu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kayu surian dan kepayang memiliki sifat pemesinan sangat baik atau kelas I kecuali sifat pengampelasan pada kayu surian dan sifat pembubutan kayu kepayang yang tergolong baik atau kelas II. Kayu surian dan kepayang cocok digunakan sebagai bahan baku meubel dan moulding.

Abstract

Moulding products made of two wood species in the form of coves were treated with BFCA preservative by cold soaking. The length of the test pieces were 30 cm. The duration of cold soaking treatment were 2, 4, 6 and 8 days, with preservative concentrations of 5 and 10 percent. The test results, after taking both retention and penetration requirements into consideration for wood uses under roof and in the open air without ground contact, showed that both wood species could be satisfactorily treated under experimental conditions. The treatment schedules proposed for both species are also presented in this paper. The average swelling of those species after treatment comparing to dimension are relatively small, therefore could be avaidable and has no affect on their use.

A survey on wood species marketed in the Jakarta Meb'opolitan has.  been conducted and the reault reporled in this paper. The result shows that there are all together 35 wood grouping available• in the market. Each group consiiitedof one or more species with similar (or almost) colour, density and pore density.

Abstract

Dalam tulisan ini dikemukakan hasil destilasi kering 10 jenis kayu dari Nusa Tenggara Barat dengan menggunakan retor listrik.Hasilnya memperlihatkan bahwa rendemen arang berkisar antara 28,84 - 34,82 %, ter 6,15 -  11,57 %, cairan destilat 57, 79 - 87,85 %, berat jenis kayu 0,35 - 0,90 g/cm3, nilai kalor kayu dan arang 4115,49 - 4682,34 kal/g dan 5874,39 - 7418,04 kal/g, kadar air 2,15 - 4,20 %, kadar abu 1,24 - 3,41 %, kadar zat terbang 19,65 - 22,29 % dan kadar karbon terikat 71,04 - 75,76 %.Berdasarkan kadar zat terbang dan kadar abu, maka 10 jenis kayu dari Nusa Tenggara Barat cukup baik untuk bahan peleburan logam dan arang aktif.
