Abstract

Indonesia is a country with abundant natural resources, one of which is green open spaces and vegetation. Land use change dynamics are the result of economic needs arising from development and community activities. This study was conducted to determine land use change dynamics and bird diversity as bioindicators of these changes. Land use change dynamics were mapped using remote sensing and satellite image analysis. The methods used in this research include field data collection on land cover and bird diversity, as well as analysis of diversity indices (H'), richness (R), and evenness (E) to evaluate biodiversity conditions. The study results show that vegetated areas experienced fluctuating increases (2014: 1,072.1 ha, 2019: 1,389.2 ha, and 2024: 1,538.8 ha), agricultural areas decreased (2014: 2,159.6 ha, 2019: 1,721.4 ha, and 2024: 1,538.8 ha), and built-up areas increased (2014: 1,295.1 ha, 2019: 1,721.4 ha, and 2024: 1,384.9 ha). The dynamics of change will affect bird diversity with values in vegetated areas H': 2.0532, agricultural areas H': 1.7350, and built-up areas H': 1.4415. Monitoring land changes is important as it is a key factor in regional spatial planning and one of the ways to protect existing green open spaces.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of coal. Approximately 60 percent of Indonesia's total coal reserves consist of low-quality coal, which is cheaper and has a calorific value of less than 6,100 kcal/gram. In addition to the combustion of low-quality coal waste, there are also Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA). The circular economy has become an important part of the economic model approach, aiming to drive economic growth while minimizing social and environmental damage. Innovations related to coal waste utilization and post-mining reclamation solutions are key aspects of this approach. This study aims to utilize coal waste as a medium for land reclamation using the circular economy concept. Coal Ball Seed (CBS) is an innovation that packages coal into balls containing seeds, growing media, and nutrients, providing the necessary nourishment for seed growth. The best binder found in this study was soil. Coefficient tests showed that the significance level for the composition was below the 0.05 threshold. The test results indicated aSig. value of 0.00, confirming that Coal Ball Seed (CBS) significantly affects the growth of sengon seeds (Falcataria moluccana. The R-square summary test revealed a value of 38.1%, meaning that the growth of Falcataria moluccana seeds is influenced by the composition of CBS itself, while the remaining 61.9% is influenced by other factors. Thus, the optimal CBS composition uses a ratio of Bottom Ash: Clay: Antracol: Liquid Nutrient. The average nutrient content of CBS was measured at N 9 mg/kg, P 2.6 mg/kg, and K 4.3 mg/kg. The utilization of coal waste into CBS plays a role in the circular economy, and its spherical shape makes it highly feasible for distribution via drones in large-scale reclamation efforts

Abstract

Forest and peatland fires are serious environmental issues in Indonesia, including in Jambi Province. This study aims to identify fire hazard levels based on peatland vegetation density using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method in the Sungai Buluh Peat Protected Forest (HLG), Jambi. NDVI data were obtained from satellite imagery and analyzed to assess vegetation density, which was then correlated with fire hazard levels. A total of 12 plots measuring 50 m x 50 m each were established. Based on NDVI analysis, density classes were divided into class 1 (0.0573-0.307), class 2 (0.307-0.398), and class 3 (0.398-0.584). The study area was predominantly occupied by rengas laut stands. The results indicated that areas with low NDVI values have a higher fire risk compared to areas with high NDVI values. The dominant stand type was rengas laut. NDVI and humidity showed the highest correlation (0.780).

Abstract

Currently, mangrove restoration and rehabilitation efforts are rampant through planting, but monitoring of these efforts has not been carried out properly because there is a major problem, namely the lack of monitoring methods. One of the monitoring methods that can be done is through biomass estimation as an indicator of mangrove growth. This study aims to develop an allometric model to estimate the biomass of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza mangrove seedlings as one of the mangrove species often used in planting. The method used in this study was the measurement of diameter and height of mangrove seedlings in the mangrove restoration area of Budeng Village, Jembrana. The data obtained were analyzed using regression analysis to produce an allometric model. The results showed that the resulting polynomial allometric model has a high level of accuracy in estimating mangrove vegetation biomass, by having a high coefficient of determination and a very small percentage error value. Therefore, the resulting polynomial allometric model with predictors of tip diameter and height diameter can be used as a tool to estimate mangrove seedling biomass in mangrove restoration areas.

Abstract

Peat swamp forests are dominated by local tree types that have economic value, such as ramin, merani, nyatoh and jelutung. Jelutung trees provide benefits in the form of wood and sap, in addition, swamp jelutung is an ideal type for the rehabilitation of peat swamp forests that are resistant to flooded peatlands. Based on the above problems, it is necessary to conduct a study to analyze the relationship between the growth of the diameter and height of the jelutung plant. This research was carried out in 2023 in community jelutung gardens in Palangka Raya City. The method used to study the growth dynamics of jelutung trees is carried out by purposive sampling, namely by selecting and determining jelutung trees based on the age class of jelutung trees with a sampling intensity of ±5% of the area or number of trees. The results of measuring the diameter and height of the tree were analyzed through a correlation regression test displayed in the form of tables and graphs. The results of the study at the location of the jelutung plantation in Bukit Tunggal Village showed that the relationship between the diameter and height of the tree in the farmer's garden 1 had a coefficient interval value of 0.9476 and the relationship between the diameter and height of the tree in the farmer's garden 2 showed a coefficient interval value of 0.9563. while the location of the jelutung plantation in Kalampangan Village showed the relationship between the diameter and height of the jelutung tree in the farmer's garden 1 with a coefficient interval value of 0, 9151, the relationship between the diameter and height of the tree in the farmer's garden 2 was 0.8277 and the relationship between the diameter and height of the tree in the farmer's garden 3, farmer 4 and farmer 5 was 0.79551. This value shows that there is a very strong and positive relationship between the two variables.

Abstract

The low durability class wood usage makes it susceptible to attack by wood-destroying organisms, so preservation is necessary to extend its service life. The present study aimed to determine the effect of teak wood extract concentration, soaking duration, and their interactions on pine wood durability. The preservative used in the present study was teak sawdust waste extract with concentrations of 50 g/L, 100 g/L, and 150 g/L. The cold soaking of teak wood extracts was conducted for 72, 120, and 168 hours. A graveyard test was used to evaluate the durability of wood treated with preservatives. The average absorption of teak extract was 442.4 kg/m3, with the highest absorption obtained in the treatment of 50 g/L teak extract concentration and 168 hours soaking duration (497.3 ± 43.8 kg/m3). Meanwhile, the lowest absorption was obtained in the treatment of 50 g/L teak extract and 72 hours soaking duration (362.8 ± 61.1 kg/m3). The average retention of teak extract was 3.3 kg/m3, with the highest retention in the treatment of teak extract concentration of 150 g/L and 72 hours soaking duration (4.8 ± 1.7 kg/m3) and the lowest in the treatment of teak extract concentration of 150 g/L and 168 hours soaking duration, (1.8 ± 1.2 kg/m3). The results in the present study indicated that the application of teak extract concentration and soaking duration did not significantly affect the absorption and retention of preservatives. The penetration depth of the teak extract was shallow, so changes in the color of the wood in the test sample were only visible on the surface. The highest weight loss was found in the test sample with a teak extract concentration of 150 g/L with 72 hours soaking duration, namely 30.4%. In addition, the lowest weight loss was 2.1% found in the teak extract concentration of 100 g/L with 72 hours soaking duration. There was no interaction between the concentration of teak extract and the difference in soaking duration on wood durability in the graveyard test method. There is a need for diversity in the preservation method given to see if there is an increase in preservatives' absorption, retention, and penetration.
