Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of religious freedom in the 1945 Constitution of Indonesia and the Medina Charter from the perspective of Siyasah Dusturiyah (Islamic Constitutional Law). Using a comparative, normative, and juridical approach, this research examines the similarities and differences in the principles of religious freedom between these two constitutional documents. The findings reveal that both the Medina Charter and the 1945 Constitution guarantee religious freedom within the framework of national unity and integrity. The Medina Charter, as the first written political document in Islamic history, recognizes non-Muslims as part of the ummah (nation) and guarantees their right to practice their religion freely, as stated in Articles 1 and 25. Similarly, the 1945 Constitution affirms religious freedom in Article 29 paragraph (2) and Chapter XA Article 28E paragraph (1). From the perspective of Siyasah Dusturiyah, both documents reflect the principles of shura (consultation), justice ('adl), and maslahah (public interest) in regulating religious freedom. The study concludes that the principles of religious freedom in Islam, as manifested in the Medina Charter, are highly relevant to and compatible with the constitutional framework of modern Indonesia. This research contributes to the theoretical development of Islamic constitutional law and provides practical insights for strengthening religious freedom policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to explore strategies for improving Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) within families as a fundamental effort to enhance community health. PHBS is defined as a set of behaviors practiced consciously to maintain hygiene, health, and disease prevention. The research employed a descriptive approach using observation, interviews, and documentation focusing on families’ daily practices related to PHBS, such as household environmental management, handwashing habits, food handling, and other hygiene practices. The findings reveal that PHBS interventions play a significant role in raising health awareness, reducing the risk of infectious diseases, and strengthening families’ participation in maintaining a healthy environment. Challenges included limited knowledge, low motivation among families, and cultural or habitual barriers that hinder behavioral change. Practical recommendations emphasize the need for continuous health education programs, intensive family mentoring, and government support to integrate PHBS into local health development agendas. This study contributes to the literature by reaffirming the role of families as the primary agents of community health and offering a strategic model of PHBS implementation adaptable to diverse social and cultural contexts.

Abstract

Islamic philanthropy through zakat management plays a crucial role in achieving social welfare. This study aims to explore the transformation of zakat management strategies in the Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) of Pacet Sub-district, Cianjur, and analyze its impact on the local community. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study gathered data through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation involving UPZ administrators, zakat recipients (mustahik), and other stakeholders. The findings reveal that the UPZ of Pacet Sub-district has implemented various innovations, including the digitalization of zakat collection and distribution systems, as well as enhanced transparency in reporting. These strategies have successfully increased public trust and participation in Islamic philanthropy. The impacts include improved access to education and healthcare services, economic empowerment of zakat recipients, and reduced poverty rates in the area. This study confirms that the transformation of zakat management in the UPZ of Pacet Sub-district significantly contributes to social development. The recommendations proposed include strengthening the capacity of administrators, developing sustainable empowerment programs, and enhancing inter-agency synergy to maximize the benefits of zakat in creating inclusive social welfare.

Abstract

This study explores the construction of personal branding by two prominent Indonesian preachers, Gus Miftah and Gus Baha, through YouTube as a medium for digital Islamic preaching. Employing a qualitative interpretive approach, the research adopts the Circle-P framework, which encompasses five key elements: competency, connectivity, creativity, compliance, and contribution. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, passive participant observation, and content documentation from both da’is’ official YouTube channels. The analysis followed Creswell’s six-step qualitative research method. The findings reveal that personal branding in the digital age is a multidimensional process rooted in each preacher’s unique character, communication style, and social engagement. Gus Miftah constructs his brand by engaging marginalized communities through an inclusive, relaxed, and empathetic style of preaching that breaks conventional boundaries. In contrast, Gus Baha builds his personal branding on scholarly authority, humility, and a calm, narrative approach grounded in Qur’anic interpretation and pesantren traditions. The study concludes that effective personal branding in Islamic preaching is not merely about gaining popularity but about maintaining authenticity, aligning values with audience expectations, and delivering consistent, value-driven communication. This research contributes theoretically to the discourse on Islamic communication and personal branding, and practically offers a strategic model for preachers to enhance their influence and credibility in digital religious spaces.

Abstract

This study investigates the religious life of the fishing community in Kampung Nelayan Prapag Lor, Losari District, Brebes Regency, using a qualitative ethnographic approach. Based on participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis, the research reveals that the community’s religious expression is deeply influenced by local culture, socioeconomic conditions, and traditional beliefs. Their religious worldview reflects Clifford Geertz's description of the Abangan variant of Javanese Islam, in which religious practices are not limited to formal worship but are expressed through communal rituals such as slametan, suwuk (protective prayers), and pilgrimage to sacred sites. Religion functions as both a spiritual and social system that provides meaning, structure, and emotional security in a life shaped by uncertainty at sea and limited economic opportunities. While older generations preserve strong ties to tradition, younger members show increasing openness to scriptural and institutional expressions of Islam influenced by education and media. The study argues that religious life in marginalized coastal communities is not a reflection of religious decline, but a creative adaptation to local realities. These findings offer significant insight for scholars of religion, culture, and poverty by highlighting the role of indigenous spirituality in fostering social cohesion and resilience.

Abstract

This study reviews contemporary Indonesian preachers’ Qur'anic interpretations of end-time events on YouTube, focusing on their quality, validity, and methodology. Using Ibrahim Abdullah Fayed’s Ad-Dakhil criticism approach, it examines how external factors affect interpretive accuracy. Analysis of interpretations by Syaiful Karim, Aam Amiruddin, and Amir Faishol reveals errors from weak Arabic skills, contextual misunderstandings, and subjective readings. The study highlights the need for critical, scientific evaluation standards and interpretive education to ensure responsible and academically sound teachings in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limitations of the concept of tolerance in building genuine interfaith relationships. Spiritually and empathetically, tolerance is more passive than active involvement. Because tolerance is often limited to the acceptance of differences. The concept of sacred hospitality in the Abrahamic traditions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism) can serve as a new mindset for creating world peace through interfaith spirituality. This study aims to analyze the concept of sacred hospitality in the three Abrahamic traditions, determine the moral and theological values contained therein, and interpret their relationship to strengthen the ethics of peace between religious communities and universal humanity. This study uses a library research approach with a qualitative descriptive method. Primary data were collected from the Tanakh, the Bible, and the Qur'an, while secondary data were collected from literature related to theology, philosophy, and interfaith studies. The study found that sacred hospitality includes unconditional love, recognition of differences, and self-transforming openness. The concept of hospitality, in this case, goes beyond simply accepting differences, as it provides for active spiritual engagement, balanced dialogue, and recognition of inherent human dignity. It is crucial to incorporate the values of sacred hospitality into interfaith education, interfaith dialogue, and social policies as a concrete step toward creating world peace grounded in spirituality and holistic humanity.

Abstract

This study examines the conceptual dynamics and methodological developments of Professional Zakat in classical and contemporary Islamic jurisprudential traditions, which emerged alongside the transformation of modern economic structures and the increasing dominance of professional income as a source of wealth. This study aims to trace the pattern of istinbat among ulama, assess the coherence and discrepancies in the fatwas of religious institutions, and identify the relevance of Professional Zakat as an instrument of wealth distribution within the framework of Islamic fiscal policy. The study employed a qualitative approach, including a literature review, content analysis, and comparative analysis of the works of scholars, institutional fatwas, and academic literature. The results show that most religious institutions accept Professional Zakat at a rate of 2.5% and the nisab of gold, but differ in the determination of the haul and the basis of calculation. Other findings show that integrating Professional Zakat into public policy has the potential to increase economic equality, strengthen the empowerment of mustahik, and enhance the stability of national zakat funds. This study concludes that Professional Zakat has strategic significance in addressing contemporary economic disparities, while demonstrating Islamic jurisprudence's ability to adapt to social change through ijtihad informed by benefits and the modern economic context.

Abstract

This study examines how religious resources are mobilized to strengthen social solidarity in Bumi Ratu Village, South Rawajitu District, Tulang Bawang Regency, Lampung, Indonesia. In the context of rural communities that still consider religion as a moral foundation and social guideline, religious values play a central role in regulating community interaction patterns. The theoretical approach used is Resource Mobilization Theory (RMT), which views collective action not as a spontaneous response, but as the result of conscious and organized management of moral, material, human, and symbolic resources. The study was conducted through a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Three informants were selected purposively: a village head, a religious figure, and a representative of the general public. The results show that religious values, religious figures, mosques, and social networks are the main resources mobilized to build social solidarity. Religious figures act as moral motivators who interpret solidarity as part of the practice of religious teachings, while village leadership utilizes religious legitimacy to mobilize residents in collective activities. The mobilization process takes place through the mechanisms of da'wah, deliberation, organizing mosque-based activities, and reinterpreting social activities as worship. This research confirms that religion is not merely a source of spiritual doctrine, but rather a strategic instrument in building social solidarity at the community level.
