Abstract

This exploratory study investigates the acoustic realization of English interrogative sentences produced by native Danish and Indonesian Chinese male speakers. The study aims to identify cross-linguistic tendencies in second language (L2) prosody through the analysis of three acoustic parameters: duration, intensity, and pitch. The target sentence “Do you like coffee?” was recorded under controlled conditions and analyzed using Praat software. Although based on a very small sample (two speakers per group), the analysis revealed distinct prosodic tendencies between the two groups. The Danish speakers generally produced shorter utterances with greater pitch and intensity variation, while the Indonesian Chinese speakers tended to produce longer and more uniform duration patterns with narrower pitch ranges. These patterns may reflect influences from each group’s first language rhythmic and tonal systems, though the results remain exploratory and non-generalizable due to the limited data. The findings provide preliminary insights into cross-linguistic tendencies in L2 English interrogative prosody and highlight the need for replication with larger participant groups. Pedagogically, the study underscores the potential relevance of prosody-focused pronunciation instruction for learners from syllable-timed and tonal language backgrounds.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the function and contextual meaning of onomatopoeia used in the Webtoon Si Juki: Lika Liku Anak Kost. This study applies a descriptive qualitative approach based on semantic studies. The data sources come from 51 episodes of the Webtoon, namely episodes 0 to 50, with a focus on linguistic units in the form of onomatopoeia that appear in visual narratives. Data collection was carried out through documentation techniques, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The analysis is based on the theory of onomatopoeia functions of Thomas & Clara (2004) and the concept of contextual meaning of Chaer (2014). The results of the study identified 176 onomatopoeia data spread across four function categories, namely giving a strong impression to the reader (127 data), enriching information in the text (36 data), building rhythm or musicality of sound (7 data), and strengthening the impression of the reality of events (6 data). These findings indicate that the use of onomatopoeia in Webtoon is more dominant as a reinforcement of expression and dramatic intensity, especially in building humor and surprise effects. In terms of meaning, onomatopoeia cannot be understood solely based on its lexical meaning, but must be interpreted through the visual context, story situation, and interactions between characters in a multimodal narrative structure. Thus, this research contributes to the development of contextual semantics and multimodal linguistic studies, particularly in understanding the function of onomatopoeia as an important semiotic element in digital comics.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach supported by digital media in enhancing junior high school students’ mathematical problem-solving skills, as well as to identify the types of digital media integrated into mathematics learning. This review was conducted as a systematic literature study following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, including the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment and inclusion. A total of 147 articles were initially retrieved, of which 13 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were analyzed comprehensively. The synthesis results indicate that the implementation of the RME approach consistently improves students' mathematical problem-solving skills. This improvement was reflected in higher post-test scores and better learning outcomes compared to conventional instruction. Various digital media, including as GeoGebra, VBA Excel, MathCityMap, Augmented Reality (AR), learning videos supported by Capcut, media 3D, E-Modul, Virtual Exhibition, Pixton, Live Worksheet, Quizizz, and E-Book assisted by Smart Apps Creator. These media support the exploration and visualization of mathematical concepts and facilitate interactive problem-solving activities. The integration of digital media within the RME approach is primarily focuses on understanding contextual problems, developing mathematical models, solving problems, and discussing solutions. Meanwhile, the use of digital media in the final stage, particularly in drawing conclusions and generalizing mathematical concepts, remains relatively limited. These findings emphasize that digital media integration can strengthen mathematics learning and make instruction more adaptive to the demands of 21st-century education. This study recommends further integration of digital media that can support reflection and generalize mathematical concepts in the final stage of the RME approach.

Abstract

This study investigates how Pancasila Student Profile (PPP) values are integrated into an advanced English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbook developed under Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka. Focusing on texts, tasks, and assessments, the study examines how character values are not only represented but also operationalized through instructional design. Using a qualitative content analysis approach informed by educational psychology, the analysis maps the distribution and enactment of six PPP dimensions across instructional components. The findings indicate that critical reasoning, global diversity, and mutual cooperation are most prominently embedded, particularly through discussion texts, collaborative activities, and argument-based tasks. In contrast, faith and noble character and independence appear more frequently as thematic messages than as structured competencies supported by explicit task design or assessment criteria. The results further reveal partial misalignment between value intentions and instructional accountability, as only a limited subset of values is consistently assessed. These findings contribute to international discussions on cultural and character integration in EFL curricula by demonstrating that value internalization depends less on thematic visibility and more on how tasks and assessments activate psychological processes such as reflection, perspective-taking, collaboration, and evidence-based judgment. The study offers a framework for evaluating character integration in language textbooks and provides practical implications for curriculum designers, textbook developers, and teachers working in value-oriented EFL contexts.

Abstract

Global transformation in the modern era, marked by digitalization, intensified relations between states, and the strengthening of transnational legal norms, presents new challenges to the quality of citizen participation and the resilience of democracy. In the context of increasingly globally connected nation-states, low civic literacy not only impacts weak domestic legal awareness but also contributes to citizens' inability to understand the dynamics of global governance and the principles of the rule of law across borders. To date, strengthening civic literacy has tended to be positioned sectorally within the realm of formal education without systemic integration with law as a normative framework and regulatory instrument of the state. This study aims to analyze a collaborative model between education and law as an instrument for strengthening civic literacy in the context of global modernity. The study uses a qualitative approach with a conceptual-analytical study design based on a systematic literature review of approximately 60 national and international scientific sources published between 2010 and 2025. The analysis is conducted using content analysis techniques and an interdisciplinary thematic synthesis of civic education theory and legal theory. The study's limitations lie in its conceptual approach without empirical field testing and its focus on the context of developing democracies. The research results show that collaboration between education and law creates a synergy between the educational function (internalization of values) and the regulatory function (enforcement of norms), which simultaneously strengthens legal culture and democratic participation. The formulated model encompasses three main pillars: (1) curriculum integration based on global legal literacy, (2) institutional partnerships between educational institutions and legal institutions, and (3) adaptive public policies to digital challenges and the globalization of norms. Practically, these findings contribute to the design of educational policies and legal reforms based on cross-sector collaboration, while also enriching the theoretical discourse on the integration of education and law in strengthening substantive democracy.

Abstract

Job stress is a major psychological challenge for educational staff in higher education institutions (HEIs), often triggered by high administrative workloads and time pressure. This study analyzes the association between job stress, cyberloafing, and the performance of 223 educational staff at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Using a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto design, data were collected through structured questionnaires (Aiken’s V: 0.67–1.00; Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.87) and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that job stress is positively associated with performance (t = 7.479; p < 0.05), and cyberloafing also shows a significant positive correlation (t = 3.630; p < 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables explain 43.5% of the variation in performance (F = 84.771; R2 = 0.435). These results suggest that within the specific context of Indonesian HEIs, moderate stress and brief digital recovery are linked to higher productivity. Practically, this study recommends that university administrators implement adaptive HR policies, such as workload management and educational digital literacy programs, rather than strictly restrictive internet policies, to support sustainable staff performance.
