Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of mathematics in elementary school, especially in fraction material by applying the Team Game Tournament (TGT) learning model. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which refers to the opinion of Kemmis and Mc Taggart with 4 stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were the fifth grade students of GMIM I Tomohon Elementary School totaling 15 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. The results obtained in the first cycle reached 46.67%, while in the second cycle it reached 86.67%. Thus it can be concluded that by applying the Team Game Tournament (TGT) model can improve student learning outcomes, especially in fraction addition and subtraction count operations in class V of GMIM I Tomohon Elementary School Keywords: Team Game Tournament Model, Learning Outcomes, Fractions

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find and describe the use of teaching media and find out its role in improving students’ learning outcomes at French Language Education Study Program of Manado State University. This research uses classroom action research methods. The results show that the use of teaching media effectively improved student learning outcomes by increasing stundents’ mastery of learning subject by 20% and increasing student learning outcomes by 11.34%. The use of teaching media makes the teaching and learning process more interesting and arouses student interest and motivation. Keywords: teaching media, CAR, learning outcomes, interests, motivation.

Abstract

Facing era of globalization needs people to prepare human resources mainly in the sector of science and technology. To have a good mastery of technology someone requires sufficient knowledge in facing global world needs which is known as a competitive era. In this case,the role of English or other foreign languages is very important in mastering communication technology or even for direct communication using English. English is not only fulfilling academic purposes since the mastery is only focused on the knowledge of the language itself, however it is used as a tool of global communication. This supports the Indonesian government program of Visit Indonesia and Pesona Indonesia for the purpose of developing the prosperity of Indonesian society. As cityzens of Manado, the capital city of North Sulawesi, is supporting the program by giving special attention to the early age of school; Sunday School Children of Tabur Kasih Malalayang teaching them simple and practical English sentences and vocabularies. English Nursary Rhymes including songs were chosen as teaching media. This training was aimed at giving the children simple English sentenses and vocabularies. The training was done in Manado Tabur Kasih Congregation attended by 30 children. Keywords: English training, Sunday School Children

Abstract

. The aim of this research is to identify the physical changes that occur on the traditional houses of Minahasa and Toraja, including factors that cause the physical changes. Furthermore, we analyze the possibility of significant similarities and differences that exist on both the traditional houses. Based on the purposive sampling studies and literature studies, the discussion and analysis of the physical changes will include the physical elements of architecture which consist of form (design), structure and construction, materials, layout plan, and ornament. The results of this study indicate that the technology development, the natural influence, physiological needs as well as an increase in the fulfillment of social needs and the development of civilization has affected the physical changes. Of all the elements of the architecture that have been reviewed, we found that not all elements occur of the same physical changes and significant. Keywords: Physical changes, Traditional houses, Minahasa, Toraja

Abstract

This research aims at applying the jeremiad approach in literary class particularly using short story for the purpose of finding a proper teaching design or model for character education. It is further hoped to obtain a teaching model on the text-based learning for the purpose of improving the quality of teaching of English as Foreign language (EFL) and the shaping of students’ character. These purposes will be gained through qualitative inquiry which is marked by the involvement of students as the respondents and the researchers in its implementation. The students will be considered as the objects of this study. Those students involves in British and American Prose class in English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. They will be taught using the Jeremiad Approach and later will be observed as well as interview. The data of the research are mostly taken from the result of interview and observation. The interview is done with the questions of how the shaping of their character as short story is used by combining it with the jeremiad approach. The observation is carried out through students’ intellectual diary which is written in every meeting. The data are analyzed and coded in the way of Grounded Theory. The findings show the implementation of the T-Ex approach had provided students the opportunities to involve in active sharing and discussion within which they observed, questioned, tried, associated, comprehended, analyzed, created, presented, implemented, respected, experienced, and accepted as well as evaluated. In addition, the use of the students’ intellectual diaries, a kind of daily note, contributed not only to monitor the advantage of the approach to the class but also alternatively to assess authentically students’ absorption as well as competency outputs.Keywords: T-Ex Approach, Shortstory, EFL Class, Character Education

Abstract

 In French language, articles play an important role and one of the basic French skills is mastery of article usage. The objective of this study is to describe students’  performance and mastery of French articles. The research used descriptive research method. Data of the study were obtained by giving written tests of French language articles to French Language Education Program students enrolled in the 2018/2019 school year. The research instrument consisted of questions in the form of loose questions and questions in the form of text / short discourse. Data analysis used descriptive statistics analysis. Study result shows that students’ mastery of French article is quite low (Mean=48.28). However, there is difference in performance of each article type. Abstract

The objectives to be achieved in this study are: (1) To describe the learning steps of the communicative approach in writing descriptive text of the report on the observations of class XI students of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano; (2) To describe the writing skills of the description text of the observation report of the XI grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano by using a communicative approach. The method used is action research according to its type. The subjects of this study were students of grade XI in SMA Negeri 2 Tondano. The source of the data is 20 students and teachers. To collect data the techniques used are tests and observations. Acting in two rounds, the results showed that, in the implementation of the first round of Class XI Language Skills of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano in Writing Text Description of Observation Reports using the communicative approach was still in the range of percentage values of 66.20%, categorized as less able. Based on the unsatisfactory results, the second round was carried out, and the results were in the successful category because they were in the able range of 84.40%. These results indicate that the use of a communicative approach in learning to write descriptive text of the observation report has an impact or can improve the skills of 20 high school students of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano Keywords: Writing skills; report text; observation results.

Abstract

The Educators must place their students as people who naturally have experience, knowledge, desires, and thoughts that can be used to learn, both individually and in groups. All language learning strategies have the main goal of increasing one's ability to speak. The choice of teaching and learning strategies language learning strategies must be based on the consideration of placing students as subjects of learning who not only passively accept what is conveyed by educators. Teaching Japanese especially kanji using various learning strategies makes it easy for Japanese learners especially in learning Japanese letters/starch. Language learning strategies/learning strategies used are direct strategies and indirect strategies. Direct Strategy is a strategy that is directly related to foreign language learning. That is directly related to language in various tasks and situations, consisting of (1) memory strategies, (2) cognitive strategies, and (3) compensation strategies. Indirect Strategies in language learning are strategies that indirectly support language learning through ways such as the focus of learning, planning, assessment, acquiring learning opportunities, avoiding anxiety in learning, working with others. This strategy consists of three elements, namely (1) metacognitive strategies that are tasked with coordinating the learning process, (2) affective strategies that are in charge of regulating emotions, and (3) social strategies that are tasked with fostering cooperation with others in the learning process. This study aims to obtain scientific data the process of increasing mastery of Japanese letters/kanji by applying Language learning strategies direct strategies and indirect strategies. The method used in this study is an action research method. Data from the research results were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Referring to the model developed by Kemmis and Mc. Taggart is a spiral model. The research method used is the method of Action research with four steps, namely (planning, implementation, observation, and reflection). Abstract

Student satisfaction as users of academic and administrative services has been evaluated to find out the extent of service delivery that has been carried out by the academic and administrative work units of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Manado. The level of student satisfaction with academic and administrative services has been measured using a linkert scale, and analyzed using the distribution of scores, then presented and served in tables or diagrams. Measuring the level of satisfaction of students to academic and administrative services covering six aspects, including tangibles, responsiveness, reliability, empathy, assurance and information systems. The six aspects are outlined in a question sheet with each aspect consisting of several question / statement items with the same score scale. Question points for all aspects of the assessment consisted of 42 items. The number of respondents amounted to 265 respondents. The measurement data is completely re-converted to get the level of student satisfaction with five categories, namely dissatisfied, less satisfied, quite satisfied, satisfied and very satisfied. The measurement results show that the level of student satisfaction with all aspects of academic and administrative services is 5.66% very satisfied, 23.02% satisfied, 38.11% quite satisfied, 24.91% less satisfied and 8.30% dissatisfied. While the level of student satisfaction with academic and administrative services for each aspect of service shows that only tangibles aspects are the percentage of satisfaction below 50% Keywords: Satisfaction; Academic and Administrative Services; FMIPA Students

Abstract

The industrial industry has influenced humans’ lives and changed many aspects including the way how people learn. It is a challenge for the teachers to integrate technologhy into their classrooms. Reading activities on the FL classrooms should not tend to be reading texts and answering a series of questions anymore. The purpose of this study is to explore students’ perception on the implementation of videotaping. Twenty five students’ perception on it were explored through the use of interviews. The result showed that the students had a positive atitude toward it despite the fact of some issues might arise like tecnical, content and delivery.    Keywords: Videotaping, perception, creativity, self-reflection
