Abstract

With the development of information and technology nowadays, schools need to adapt and make changes. This research aims to investigate the application of digital media in improving students’ ability in writing a report text. This research was done in one class at one high school in North Sulawesi. The eighth-grade students consist of 30 students. In this study, digital media used was power point presentation. In collecting the data, the researcher worked collaboratively with the English teachers in the school in which Classroom Action Research was employed. The research was conducted in two cycles which there were four steps each cycle: planning, observing, acting and reflecting. The data were collected through observation check list and conducting the test after implementing each cycle. The result of each cycle showed that students writing ability was increased. The result of test in cycle 1: 76.73 and in cycle 2: 81.06. This result leads to a conclusion that students’ ability in writing report text increased. Thus, it could be recommended that writing report text should be taught using an interesting digital media like power point presentation Keywords: Digital media, Writing Skill, report text, CAR.

Abstract

This research is aimed to describe: 1) Form of Infix {um-} in Tondano dialect of Tolour Language, 2) in-the function of infix {-um-} in Tondano dialect of Tolour Language, 3) the meaning of infix {-um-} in Tondano dialect of Tolour Language. This research used quantitative methods. Data collection technique used for this research was trigger (basic technique) and interview (advance technique). Resea2rcher used list of questions that were related to infix problem in Tolour Language. Other than that, in obtaining supporting data, 3 (three) informants from Seretan Village were chosen. Ata analysis technique was undertaken by identifying finding of interview, combined to data from written source. The next step, the data of kind were classified and analyzed according to its form, function and the meaning, the cause of the attachment of infix in the basic form. At the end, the finding from data analysis showed that infix arrangement {-um-} at the basic form had experienced changes. The forms of infix {-um-} in Tondano dialect of Tolour Language cover: (1) if it was attached to the basic form which has vocal (a, i, u, e, o), so the assimilation and position change would happen, (2) if it was attached to the basic form preceded by bilabial phoneme /p,w/, change would happen which was infix {-um-}would move prefix position and the first phoneme in its assimilated form, (3) if it was attached to the basic preceded by consonant phoneme, there would be no change. Infix {-um-} is aimed to form transitive and intransitive verb from basic forms of varied categories either pre-category, nominal, adjective, and numerical. He purpose of infix attachment in its basic form changed according to the purpose of the basic from attached, which (1) means an action that would happen, (2) determines the purpose of an continuous action that related to what is said in the basic form, (3) determines the meaning of becoming like it in the basic form, and (4) determines the meaning of would become as said in the basic form. Abstract

Technology has penetrated into the community as a necessity for the sake of acceleration, while art is an inseparable part of the needs of every human being's life, both fine art and applied art. Technology and art cannot be separated at every step forward but the residual waste of technology can used into works of art without using technological aids. Some sculpture works made of wood, cement, fiberglass, metal (brass). This research will look at the extent to which sawdust can used as a medium for making sculptures. Sawdust waste is found in many furniture industries and stage home industries. With sawdust for creative people can used as material for art work. Keywords: Sawdust; Waste; Sculpture

Abstract

Reality show has started to dominate the television industry and has been used as media for product placement strategy. Destination placement in reality show serves the same purpose. However, previous study in destination placement in reality show is limited, as well as the study about travel intention to destination through reality show. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of destination exposure in reality show to viewers’ travel intention to the destination. This study was conducted using experimental method, involving one hundred and four undergraduate students distributed randomly into experiment and control group. The stimulus used in this study was the popular reality show, The Amazing Race. The data was analyzed using independent sample t-test. The result of this study showed that in general viewers who received exposure of destination in reality show had higher travel intention to the destination, and in specific triggered the awareness and interest to look for information about the destination.

Abstract

The research aim is to know how is the conceptual understanding of mathematics lesson with classical guidance tutorial as a final examination preparation on grade 6 Lentera Harapan Elementary School- Tomohon. The research was done by descriptive methods, with two (2) classes of Grade 6 students Lentera Harapan Elementary School- Tomohon. Data was collected through interviews and tests. Data analysis by using percentage of 40% students can get 6.5 KKM score (a minimum completeness criteria). This researches shows that in general student conceptual understanding of mathematics lesson is not satisfying. This is visible from 40% students of  Grade 6 can understood the mathematics concept and 60% still struggling with the concept. The researcher discovered that there were misconception on fraction and memorizing on the units of length, time, weight and temperature and how to convert it on difference unit.  Key words: Understanding, concept, mathematics

Abstract

This study aims to produce an overview of the needs of Japanese teaching materials at the Tomohon "Bethesda" Nursing Academy. The approach and method used is a mixed approach or a mixed method that is a research approach that combines qualitative and quantitative forms. Creswell, (2014: 5) Data obtained by observation, survey and interview techniques. By using a mixed method approach, the data collected in the form of text are described qualitatively. Likewise with data through a questionnaire, tabulated in percentage and subsequently described qualitatively. The results of the needs analysis show that both learners and instructors, all of them need teaching materials that the contents of the material in a variety of skills should be in accordance with the special field of expertise that is the field of nursing that is well-graded, and well designed too. Furthermore, in the learning process it should also be equipped with cassettes, videos, and sufficient practice questions and good evaluation. This study recommends that teaching materials be developed that reflect comprehensive needs in the area of health expertise, especially nursing. Keywords: Needs Analysis, Japanese Language Teaching Materials, School of Nursing.

Abstract

The population growth is closely related to the utilization of natural resources and will impact on environmental degradation. Therefore, identifying and inventorying the local wisdom of the community that aims to conserve the environment is very important. Natural science perspective lifting local wisdom in education is one way to revitalize, develop and maintain the values of local knowledge. This study aims to explore the elements of local wisdom in society, examines the concept of Natural Science and Mathematics contained in the elements of local wisdom and is designed for learning materials. The research was conducted in the District Manganitu Sangihe Islands in January 2016. Data collection using observation techniques and interviews with related parties and data obtained analyzed the concept of science underlying the forms of local wisdom existing in Manganitu community.The result of the research is a concept map which contains the network of Mathematics and Natural Science concepts. Abstract

This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of educational values in the novel Madogiwa No Totto-chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi with a qualitative approach that includes educational values in terms of the structure of the novel. Research methods. This research is a library research or library research that uses a qualitative approach with content analysis techniques. Conclusion of research findings: The main theme of this novel is EDUCATION, education that frees students to be creative, while the sub-theme is education must be adjusted to the development of the child's personality. The credentials found are: A mother must be wise in educating and caring for her children with special needs. A school principal or a teacher should be a leader who is brave to act in accordance with their respective beliefs and life principles. The educational values in this novel can be used as examples of learning in schools to help children with problems (special needs). An educator should be fun and not scold his students because educating children is not with anger but with advice, praise, and trust. Make kids confident, responsible, love each other, and help each other, introduce them to nature because nature stores various sources of knowledge. Educational values found are educational values related to religious education values, moral education values, social education values, and beauty education values. Recommendation: Madogiwa No Totto-chan's autobiographical novel (Totto-chan Little Girl in the Window) can be used as a learning tool for character education in schools in Indonesia because this Japanese novel has raised educational values that contain a number of noble values. One of the noble values is the value of education in the novel that abstracts the reality of Japanese society's life. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve learning outcomes of natural resources material in social sciences  subjects. This study uses a classroom action research method with four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection on learning outcomes is obtained through tests. Data analysis was done by calculating the percentage of completeness of learning, and research was said to be successful if the completeness of learning outcomes was 85%. The results of the study in the first cycle showed that Social sciences  learning outcomes reached 68.85% and after the implementation of improved learning in the second cycle learning outcomes increased to 88.84%. This study concluded that the application of the investigation group model can improve student learning outcomes in social sciences  learning.Keywords: Group Investigation Learning Model, Social sciences  Learning Outcomes

Abstract

This study is try to find out the students’ attitude towards English language learning in Jombang elementary schools. Attitude is one of the factors that influence the language acquisition. The study used qualitative research methodology. The data were gathered by using questionnaire. The findings showed that most of the students have positive attitude towards English. But, there is a finding that showed the students’ competence in learning English is poor. Positive attitude did not influence their competence in acquiring English. Some suggestions for government to make a guide or curriculum of English teaching –learning in elementary school. So that the teachers know how to teach English for young learner appropriately.
