Abstract

All human activities always have a communication aspect in it. One of them is in the field of instructional. In the 1970s, instructional communication focused on the role of communication in teaching. Previous researchers revealed that teachers should not only focus on understanding the material but also how to create a sense of comfort for students. This approach comes from the Rhetorical and Relational Goal Theory. This study looks at how the rhetorical and relational approaches are used during the learning process at TPQ Darul Hamdi 2. This research is a qualitative research with an interpretative paradigm. The research was conducted by observing. Participants were selected by purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicate that TPQ Darul Hamdi 2 applies the demonstrating instructional strategy by Clarissa Gomes Foletto as a rhetorical approach and focuses on classroom interaction, teacher attitudes, child independence, and teacher-student relationships as a relational approach. Based on data analysis, the approaches taken are effective in learning even though there are several efforts that need to be corrected and increased again.

Abstract

The emergence of K-Pop in Indonesia has given rise to a rapidly evolving fan culture on various social media platforms, one of which is Twitter. Fandom communities on Twitter have, in turn, brought forth a new phenomenon: the emergence of K-Pop Roleplayer communities. K-Pop Roleplaying involves participants assuming the personas of Korean celebrities as characters in their interactions. Since players essentially 'borrow' the identities of others in this game, terms like "In Character" (IC) and "Out of Character" (OOC) have arisen, which can be explored through the same concepts found in impression management, namely the "front stage" and "back stage." This qualitative research, employing a netnographic approach, seeks to understand how K-Pop Roleplayers engage in impression management in their daily activities and how effectively they can portray the chosen celebrity characters. The study also examines the real-life impacts of Roleplay on the participants. The research was conducted using netnography methods, including observation and semi-structured interviews with five informants who are K-Pop Roleplayers. The findings of this study are as follows: K-Pop Roleplayers consider their Twitter timelines as their "front stage." The objective of their impression management is to create a positive image of the characters they portray. They achieve this through the appearance of their accounts and the content they post. The "back stage" in this context is considered to be their online accounts, and Roleplaying has a noticeable influence on the real lives of the participants. This research makes a valuable contribution to the field of communication studies, especially in the realm of social media dramaturgy.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the experiences of the Sukasari community in using information technology. The study was conducted in the village of Sukasari, Air Periukan District, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu. The research method used in this study is action research or participatory action research (PAR). This method is considered appropriate because it can analyze and evaluate barriers and opportunities through multidisciplinary expertise to gather information and make decisions according to the needs of the community. The results show that the Sukasari community has a general understanding of social media utilization because all the actors in the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDES) Sukasari have social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, which they use for communication and interaction. However, the Sukasari village community also faces several challenges in the implementation of social media, such as internet accessibility, lack of understanding in creating engaging content, relationship issues, and the quality of human resources in managing social media as a means of promoting the village's potential. The Sukasari village community requires training focused on enhancing the community's skills in social media management, including content creation strategies, finding creative ideas, photo and video editing, caption creation, and even understanding the appropriate social media algorithms to create engaging and marketable social media content.

Abstract

When the COVID-19 pandemic gradually subsided, digital disruption was considered a game changer for today's work, such as work from home (WFH). The prevalence of digital disruption in contemporary work has triggered the birth of a digital labor class, which broadly impacts intra- and inter-organizational communication, especially in dealing with work-related risks in an increasingly insecure labor market. In a macro context like this, digital labor within neoliberal higher education institutions became an interesting phenomenon, especially given the worsening conditions of intellectual workers and changes in academic behavior and practices. A recent study showed many practices violating academic integrity in Indonesian higher education institutions, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, improper claims of authorship, contract-cheating, and other violations of professional codes of ethics. To address these problems, the author employed a critical method of the political economy of communication and the sociology of work to analyze 'short-time logic' as an operational mechanism in flexible capitalism, commoditizing workers' time by blurring the boundaries between productive and leisure time and turning the illusion of worker autonomy into a 'sustained contestation.' The 'short time logic' of flexible capitalism deformed intellectual workers in higher education in Indonesia into digital labor because they were constantly conditioned to produce intellectual products with highly competitive metrics but lacking reflection and meaningfulness, which sharpened the gaps in competency-based inequalities and created a new hierarchy of social classes in higher education.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the portrayal of romantic relationships in the film "Wedding Agreement" involving arranged couples. The focus of the research is to explore how the representation of these relationships in the film relates to the social context of Indonesian society, as well as the relevance of the phenomena depicted in the film to the current conditions. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with document analysis as the data collection technique. The use of discourse analysis with its two paradigms is chosen as the data analysis technique in this study because it can reveal culture and society in a discourse constructed through textual elements, namely the formalist and functionalist paradigms. The results show that the film "Wedding Agreement" represents several phenomena that occur in the social reality of Indonesia, such as arranged marriages, patriarchal culture, the influence of strong religious values, and high parental control over children. The question that arises is whether the phenomena portrayed in the film truly reflect the current state of society and to what extent the film can depict the actual issues faced by the community. Overall, "Wedding Agreement" provides a relevant representation of the social and cultural context of Indonesia.
