In the digital era, platforms like TikTok Shop offer significant marketing potential, yet UMKM in Semarang have not widely adopted it. This study aims to identify the creative TikTok Shop marketing strategies implemented by UMKM in Semarang and the factors that influence their success. In this study, the theory used is marketing communication Business to consumer theory and uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The object of this research is the UMKM @dapoerrindu_semarang which has a TikTok Shop account in Semarang. Data collection were conducted through interviews, observation and documentation. The research findings show that UMKM @dapoerrindu_semarang have implemented several creative strategies such as ease of transactions, product qualifications, and service quality. There are several factors that cause the use of TikTok Shop among UMKM in Semarang to remain low, including the lack of adequate infrastructure support, HR skills, and understanding of digital creativity. Future research should explore consumer perspectives on TikTok Shop, particularly its impact on purchasing decisions and its effectiveness as a community-based e-commerce platform.

Abstract

This article examines the establishment of the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) during the first 100 days of the Prabowo Subianto administration through the lens of Rational Choice Institutionalism (RCI) and framing theory. By analyzing the political calculation behind institutional formation and the communication strategies employed by the government, this study finds that the decision was driven more by short-term legitimacy goals than by a substantive agenda to protect migrant workers. The government's framing presents the ministry as a symbol of state responsiveness and care, particularly through narratives of nationalism and moral obligation. However, implementation challenges suggest a gap between public messaging and institutional capacity. The study argues that while the creation of KemenP2MI may enhance the government's public image, its long-term effectiveness depends on whether symbolic initiatives are matched with structural reform and policy coherence. The findings contribute to broader discussions on policy symbolism, institutional legitimacy, and political communication in contemporary governance.

Abstract

Buzzers are employed as tools to sustain political power, wherein media owners and other political actors provide incentives to buzzers in the form of financial rewards or political appointments. This practice frequently violates provisions of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law) and has the potential to foster a hegemonic view that politics is inherently about provocation and mutual attacks. Although the ITE Law was originally designed to ensure safety and comfort in online communication, in practice—particularly within the context of the buzzer industry—it can be manipulated as an instrument to serve various vested interests. This study focuses on how media owners mobilize the masses into buzzers to influence multiple spheres of life, including politics, public policy, and social domains. The primary objective of this research is to understand and analyze the impact of buzzer practices on political polarization and social stability within society. A descriptive qualitative approach is employed, using literature review analysis to explore in depth the relationship between the buzzer industry and political polarization as a consequence of social media usage, from the perspective of the political economy of media. The findings indicate that buzzers intensify political polarization through agenda-setting strategies and the commodification of opinion. Within the political economy framework, the practice of political buzzers also contributes to the reproduction of power imbalances in the digital space.

Abstract

The Indonesian Police have faced challenges in handling the crisis of intimidation involving the Sukatani band. This study employs quantitative content analysis of 32 news reports to identify communication strategies used by the police, as reported in the media. To support this analysis, semi-structured interviews were also conducted with 10 participants from diverse backgrounds—including lecturers, civil servants, employees, a political activist, a teacher, an artist, and an entrepreneur. Although limited in number, the participants’ responses showed consistent patterns, making their input sufficient to support the main analysis. These responses were used to enrich interpretation, as we also used reports from reputable organizations as other secondary data to draw generalizable conclusions. The findings show that the police failed to implement several strategies effectively due to low public trust and inconsistencies in applying the denial strategy, which undermined the success of subsequent efforts. In response, this study proposes a model combining corrective action and mortification strategies with transformational leadership to regain public trust. The model highlights the importance of strengthening leader-follower relationships to prevent similar crises. The Sukatani case—along with other crises of police misconduct—demonstrates that the current transformation process remains ineffective, underscoring the need for more concrete and holistic institutional reform.

Abstract

Perfume was one of the most sold products online in Indonesia and was predicted to continue growing each year. However, Indonesian consumers still tended to choose perfumes from long-established local and international brands available in offline stores. As a result, emerging local perfume brands that primarily focused on online sales faced great challenges in winning the competition. As a sensorial-based product with a high level of uncertainty, perfume was difficult to evaluate in online purchases since consumers could not try it beforehand. Using the Uncertainty Reduction Theory construct, this study examined how product descriptions, online reviews, and interactions with the seller influenced the blind buying intention of local perfumes online in Indonesia. This study used an explanatory quantitative approach with a survey method. A total of 306 respondents who had previously purchased local perfume online without trying it first were selected through purposive sampling. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicated that product descriptions, online reviews, and interactions with the seller affected the intention to blind buy local perfumes online.

Abstract

This study examines the role of intercultural communication in the success of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs implemented by PT Danone Indonesia in two local communities: Desa Wisata Cibeusi and Kampung Adat Banceuy. In Indonesia’s multicultural setting, culturally sensitive communication is essential for building trust, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and ensuring program sustainability. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, the research analyzes communication strategies, collaboration patterns, and the integration of corporate values such as transparency, inclusiveness, and integrity in CSR practices. Fieldwork was conducted from January 2024 to March 2025, involving interviews with CSR coordinators, local community leaders, and facilitators. The findings show that participatory and adaptive intercultural communication fosters co-creation, enhances community ownership, and contributes to corporate legitimacy. Communication across cultural boundaries allows companies to not only deliver information but also engage in dialogue that reflects local values, traditions, and aspirations. Furthermore, the study reveals that CSR programs incorporating cultural sensitivity create long-term harmonious relationships, mitigate potential social resistance, and encourage sustainable community empowerment. This research contributes theoretically by linking intercultural communication and stakeholder engagement while also providing practical insights for companies operating in culturally diverse societies to design CSR programs that are both inclusive and sustainable.

Abstract

Objectivity as a key principle of journalism played an important role in news coverage of general elections, particularly in Indonesia. This study analyzed Kompas.com’s coverage of the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates, which received significant public attention during the election period. Using J. Westerstahl’s concept of objectivity and a quantitative content analysis method, this study examined 61 news. The findings showed that Kompas.com performed well in terms of factuality, accuracy, transcendence, scope, transparency, causality, suitability image, and congruence language. However, completeness, actuality, suitability language, and congruence image still need improvement to support higher journalistic quality. Therefore, strengthening media governance was required to ensure critical and accountable reporting that protects the integrity of democracy.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of the hashtag #KaburAjaDulu on TikTok as a form of digital expression through which Indonesian youth articulate collective disillusionment toward domestic employment conditions and future socioeconomic prospects. Departing from prior studies that approach youth unemployment and migration from economic or policy perspectives, this research positions #KaburAjaDulu as a communicative and discursive practice embedded within digital media dynamics. Employing a descriptive qualitative design with a netnographic approach, this study analyzes 50 TikTok videos tagged with #KaburAjaDulu, collected between June and August 2025. Data were obtained through observation complemented by digital sentiment analysis using Brand24. The analytical framework integrates framing analysis and symbolic representation within digital content. The findings reveal that #KaburAjaDulu functions not merely as an expression of individual aspiration to work abroad, but as a collective discursive framing of crisis, reflecting structural dissatisfaction with the national labor system. The dominant negative sentiment and recurrent narrative patterns portray domestic employment as stagnant and precarious, while foreign labor markets are idealized as rational and attainable alternatives. This study contributes to digital communication scholarship by demonstrating how TikTok operates as a discursive arena for the construction of collective identity, critique, and hope among digitally native youth.

Abstract

Strategic corporate communication plays a crucial role in fostering sustainable and empowering relationships between organizations and stakeholders, particularly within Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This qualitative exploratory study investigates how the CSR Department of PT Pertamina Lubricants Production Unit Gresik (PUG) implements stakeholder engagement through the Kampung Iklim (ProKlim) program, an environmental initiative promoting community participation in climate adaptation and mitigation. Using Organization–Public Relationship Theory to explores how communication practices shape trust, satisfaction, commitment, and shared control in CSR implementation. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using NVivo 12 Pro. Findings show that all five stages of stakeholder engagement are implemented but vary in maturity. The capacity strengthening stage remains weak, limiting long-term empowerment and relationship continuity, meanwhile action–review–reporting reflects strong transparency and accountability. Thematic analysis suggests that sustainable engagement emerges when communication evolves from one-way information delivery to dialogic, participatory, and empowerment-oriented interaction. This study proposes an Empowerment-Based Relationship Management Model, integrating dialogic communication, participatory capacity building, and mutual accountability as key elements of sustainable CSR communication, reframing CSR engagement as a co-creative process of empowerment and shared legitimacy.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the e-pamphlet All Eyes on Rafah as a solidarity campaign. The All Eyes on Rafah campaign emerged in response to the humanitarian crisis in Rafah, using e-pamphlets as a primary means to raise global attention and solidarity towards the suffering of Gaza's residents. The method used is qualitative and interpretive. This research examines how messages of solidarity are disseminated, functioning as a tool for social mobilization. The theory used for interpretation refers to the concept proposed by Mark Slouka regarding the digital public sphere and the role of media in shaping social awareness. The findings show that e-pamphlets play a crucial role in mobilizing international support, although they also reveal limitations in achieving long-term structural change.
