Abstract

Animated films are part of literary works with a form of postmodern fiction. It is shown that animated films fulfill the requirements as literary works, which are fictitious, medium in language, and aesthetic. As a literary work, animated films have similar structures, such as characters, characterizations, settings, and plot. The purpose of this study is to compare the traces of American and Russian colonialism in both animated films by looking at their elements such as hybridity and mimicry. The research method that will be used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Descriptive research is research that aims to provide (describe) a condition or phenomenon that exists as it is. The shift in the meaning of "war" is shown from the transformation of the first film to the second film. The thing that needs to be raised is that the second film wants to restore the spirit of Japanese society. The identity of the Japanese people who easily rise from adversity is explored again. Another thing is a form of diplomacy with the Russian state. This is considering that Japan and Russia are two countries side by side. The film Jopanni no Shima wants to be a medium for the relationship between the two countries.

Thus, the data is presented in an informal form. This research resulted in the finding that the epistemic modalities –kamoshiremasen and –deshou have similarities, namely they can be attached to verbs, i-adjectives, na-adjectives and nouns and can be placed in the middle and end of sentences. While the difference is the epistemic modality – kamoshiremasen states a possibility and general opinion with a low level of certainty, while the epistemic modality -deshou expresses a conjecture and confirmation with a high degree of certainty. Abstract

Japan's defeat in World War II did not necessarily become a complete liberation for the Korean zainichi. Japanese zainichi still feels discriminatory acts after Japan's colonization. The depiction of poverty and the living conditions of the zainichi who experience discrimination often colour the storylines of zainichi-themed films, including the Yakiniku Dragon, Go, and Pacchigi, objects of this research. Among the descriptions of the discrimination experienced by Zanichi, there is one similarity in the three films that is interesting to study further, the school setting, which is part of the storyline. The school became one of the spaces where discrimination against Korean zainichi took place. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. By using definition of discrimination in social perspective, this study discusses what forms of discrimination toward zainichi are reflected in three zainichi films, Pacchigi, Yakiniku Dragon and GO. The result shows some forms of discrimination toward zainichi. The forms of discrimination are physical violence, verbal violence and also social discrimination in the form of rejection and neglect from the majority group, namely Japanese society.

Abstract

This study aims to show the portrait of women's dual roles in two Japanese novels, Out by Natsuo Kirino and Absolute Justice by Akiyoshi Rikako. This research stems from the author's interest in seeing the comparison and similarity of the portrait of women's dual roles reflected in the two Japan's novel. This research uses the method of comparative literature, which focuses on how the authors of the two novels present female characters, namely the character Yayoi and the character Yumiko, who play a dual role as a wife and housewife and also as a woman who has a professional career outside the home, as well as how the goals the author wants to achieve are depicted in the characters Yayoi and Yumiko. The results show that the dual roles of Out is more dominant than that of Absolute Justice, while the goals of the two novels are also different. The novel Out is oriented toward "Working Life." While the novel Absolute Justice is more dominantly oriented towards "Family and Childcare.”
