Abstract

In 2023, the Jambi City Government faced public criticism after a viral video of a junior high school student criticizing the government for allegedly allowing a large-tonnage company car to damage her grandmother's house went viral on social media. This incident led to a crisis situation due to its bad reputation which requires effective crisis management from Diskominfo Kota Jambi as government public relations. The research aimed to identify crisis management carried out by Diskominfo Kota Jambi to help Jambi City Government deal with problems related to the viral student which is deepened using Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). The qualitative approach used in the study involved in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The results showed that the crisis management at pre-crisis stage focused on problem identification and preparation. The response during crisis was classified as a strategy of reducing responsibility (diminish) by providing excuses and justification that government had no intention of creating a crisis. Diskominfo Kota Jambi also provides open and transparent clarification through websites, social media and mass media. After the crisis, the focus shifted to restoring government's reputation with positive news. There are still several steps or strategies that need to be improved in their implementation.

Abstract

This study examines the interpretation patterns in the Serambi Islami TVRI program during the 2020-2021 pandemic, focusing on social interpretation patterns (al-Adabī wa al-Ijtima’ī). The themes addressed in these interpretations include values such as mutual cooperation, media ethics, family roles, radicalism, rahmatan lil 'Alamin, the importance of dhikr, manners in religious gatherings, and the roles of husbands and wives in the family. The aim of this research is to explore the interpretations conveyed by the speakers and their relevance to informal education in Indonesia, particularly in the socio- cultural education context. The method used is descriptive analysis, with contextual and textual approaches in delivering the interpretations. The results show that most speakers used the ijmali interpretation method with a more contextual approach, although there was variation in the delivery methods. This dissertation also found similarities with Albert Bandura's social learning theory, where new behavior is learned through observation and imitation. On the other hand, this theory differs from nativism, which considers that education does not influence human development. The Serambi Islami TVRI program is considered relevant to socio-cultural diversity education in Indonesia, as it teaches values that align with the characteristics of Indonesian society, such as brotherhood, equality, tolerance, deliberation, mutual assistance, and justice. This research concludes that the program contributes to informal education accessible to the broader public without requiring formal education.

Abstract

The West Sumatra toll road project that connects the city of Padang with Pekanbaru is not running smoothly. The project, which commenced construction in 2020, is experiencing serious problems in land acquisition because it will eliminate productive lands and settlements. People whose lands are intended to be used as toll road bodies refuse for various reasons, including the amount of compensation that is considered not commensurate with their losses. This research is focus about communication between the Government as the party responsible for land acquisition and the community. The research was conducted inductively with a phenomenological approach. The analysis begins by gathering the experience of community communication with the Government in land acquisition and project work. The experience is reduced to three phenomenological reductions: epoche, eidetic, and transcendental. The results of this study are 1) communication between government agencies responsible for land acquisition and the community is at the lowest level, 2) government agencies reduce community resistance due to low compensation even though on the community side the problem is much more complex because it involves the sustainability of economic activities based on agriculture, the obligation to maintain heritage and cultural identity.

Abstract

This paper emphasizes the importance of integrating local wisdom into conservation policies from the perspective of participatory communication as a key strategy for achieving sustainable and inclusive development. The participatory communication approach emphasizes the active role of various stakeholders, especially local communities, in the decision-making process and policy formulation, thereby increasing the effectiveness of environmental conservation while strengthening community ownership and responsibility. This study aims to fill the literature gap regarding the relationship between the communication dimension in the integration of local wisdom and traditional conservation practices, using a literature review that highlights the importance of inclusive, dialogic, and adaptive communication strategies. The findings indicate that the success of local wisdom-based conservation policies is highly dependent on the development of effective communication channels that actively involve communities and respect traditional knowledge. The integration of scientific and cultural communication approaches has been proven to enhance ecological sustainability while strengthening local cultural values, thereby accelerating the achievement of conservation and sustainable development goals in a holistic and inclusive manner.

Abstract

This study examines how behind-the-scenes practitioners of the "azab" (divine punishment) sub-genre religious television dramas perceive da'wah (Islamic proselytizing) through television media and the role of religious preachers within it, viewed through the lens of Axel Honneth's theory of recognition. For Honneth, recognition is a fundamental human need in the process of identity and integrity formation. Conversely, misrecognition can lead to social pathologies. This misrecognition is what Lukács termed reification—the objectification of abstract values. Complex values are simplified and treated merely as tools or commodities for profit. Through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and in-depth interviews with those involved in the production of these dramas, the research found that while the shows are considered an effective means of da'wah and the media provides a platform for it, this recognition is superficial. Within this dynamic, spiritual values are reified into profit-oriented messages. The role of the preachers in the production serves only to provide religious legitimacy. At the same time, the content of the da'wah is subordinated to industrial interests, sacrificing the empowerment of spiritual messages.
