Quantum Teknika : Jurnal Teknik Mesin Terapan or Quantum Teknika is a peer-reviewed journal published by Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Quantum Teknika journal publishes twice a year in April and October. Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering focusing on mechanical engineering research. Abstract

In the manufacturing industry, the integration of different types of material is needed. The dissimilar metal welding of two different material were required suitable filler types. The often combination of material was done is welding between steel and stainless steel. TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding process used feed electrode an electric arc. The gas around welding area has been protected the molten metal with outside air. This study aimed to determine the effect of selecting a suitable filler on the joining dissimilar metal beetwen SS316L  and low carbon steel with the TIG welding method. The mechanical characteristics of ER316L and ER70S filler variations were testing by Tensile strength and microhardness vickers.  The highest tensile strength and hardness value were found in the specimen welded by ER70S filler at  410 MPa and 398,1 HVN (Hardness Vickers Number). According to the study results, the ER70S filler is more suitable beetwen welding on the stainless steel and low carbon steel.

Abstract

The lining is coil’s protector componen and metal liquid reservoir, the lining is required to own endurance towards chemical reaction and high temperature emitted by the smelting process. The lining commonly problem on the lining damage (cavity) after the sintering process. This damage cause the smelting process force-stopped, due to endangering the induction furnace operator and the surrounding. According to the analysis result, the lining damage occured because of the improper pulverization and sintering process with the casting term. The uncontinued comprssion process and the improper sintering with the used fireproof material, cause the lining can not maximally functioned. The upcoming refinement will apply proper compression process according to metal casting theories and economically anallyzed.

Abstract

Commonly the prime material for brake pad of the commercial motorcycle using asbestos, these materials cause a disease like as cancer of respiration if the abrasive particles were sniffed. The SKJ (Serbuk Kayu Jati) brake pad is alternative to replacement the asbestos brake pads. The mechanical test includes a wear test, hardeness test, friction coefficient test, and heat resistant test. The hot press process for SKJ as main material of brake pad based by variation of temperature there are 160ºC, 170ºC, and 180ºC. The optimum test result of SKJ brake pads is a variation of 180ºC with wear test result is 3,36 x 10-7 mm2/kg, the hardeness result is 25,1 BHN, the friction coefficient test is 0,59 and not damaged on the heat resistant test with a temperature of 300ºC during an hour.

Abstract

From the tofu production process. The waste generated by tofu industries can be divided into two types, i.e the solid waste and liquid waste. One effort to reduce the environmental damage due to tofu liquid waste from the processing of tofu is to make the tofu liquid waste into biogas. The effort to convert liquid waste from tofu factories into biogas reguires a biogas reactor.  The aim of this study was to design a biogas reactor with a size of 1 m3 (1000 Liters) by using materials and equipment that are very easily available in the market at an affordable price, to determine the pressure, pH value and the quality of the flame produced when the biogas is used as fuel gas stove. The method used in this study is an experimental method within 30 days. The results showed that biogas pressure increased with increasing time (days). Maximum pressure is reached on day 21, which is 12.2 kPa. The average pH value is 6.91. The temperature in the biogas reactor tends to be stable with an average temperature of 31oC. The color of the flame when the biogas from tofu liquid waste is used as a gas fuel for a large flame gas stove is still a mixture of blue and yellow. The utilization of tofu liquid waste into biogas is expected to reduce environmental pollution and make tofu liquid waste become a high economic value and environmentally friendly.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ratio of power and torque on an automatic motorbike using two different rollers, namely a cylindrical roller with a sliding roller with a weight of 12 grams each. The method used in this research is the experimental method. The testing and retrieval process carried out at the Gede Widi Motor workshop, and data collection was carried out five repetitions for each variation. After testing, there are differences in torque and power on the cylinder roller with roller sliding. The cylinder roller reaches the highest torque of 7.6 Nm at Rpm 4000. The highest power is 7.46 Hp at Rpm 7000, while in roller sliding, the highest torque is 11.82 Nm at Rpm 4000 and the highest power 7.56 Hp at 7000 RPM.

Abstract

A Shaft has been widely used in machinery construction, transmitting power from one component to another. Firstly, the shaft must be calculated for its safety factor before being used for the actual application. In this study, the specimen used for testing was ST 41 material. The safety factor is essential for engineering design, used to evaluate that machine elements' system is guaranteed safety with minimal dimensions. The way to nd the safety factor of this test tool is to use actual calculations and simulations on the Solidworks software. The value of the safety factor obtained from the calculation will be compared with SolidWorks software's simulation results. The results obtained in a calculation analysis for the actual stress of 6,65x106 N/m2 and the safety factor of 55, while for the actual stress (von Mises) in a simulation of 6,8x106 N/m2 and its safety factor of 54. After validating the data, there is a difference of 1.1% for the actual stress and 0.9% for the value of its safety factor.

Abstract

The research tested the effects between feeding and surface roughness on shaft of steady rest which will be worked in CMZ T-360’s lathe machine. Material of St.60 was turned into shaft of steady rest in 2 CMZT-360’s machines with several of feeding like 0.045, 0.056, 0.068, 0.079, 0.90 and 0,102 mm/rev. Then the work piece was tested the surface roughness of the work piece with using roughness tester and being seen the shape of the surface with using photo macro. The result of the roughness’s test showed that CMZ-T360’s lathe machine could reach Ra 1.55 µm until 4.79 µm with several of feeding. The work piece would be assembled in steady rest and being used to support 58 kg weigth in 2 hours to know the effect of surface roughness. After testing on steady rest, would be done photo macro on the specimen to make easy on visual analysis. From the data which is obtained can conclude that feeding variation which used on this research not so affecting the quality of surface roughness of the workpiece, the value of surface roughness that resulted from this research is mostly N8 (3,25 µm- 5,29 µm) and only a few that valued N7 (1,55 µm-2,53 µm) . The second conclusion is the surface roughness which quickly wornt-out after assembled at steady rest is the rough surface (4,79 µm become 3,84 µm) compared with the smooth surface (2,23 µm become 2,03 µm).

Abstract

One of the post-harvest honey processing processes is the pasteurization process. Pasteurization is the initial stage of honey processing before evaporation. The high demand for honey in Indonesia requires that honey producing companies must use pasteurization tools with large capacities and do not damage the honey content. Honey will be damaged if the pasteurization temperature is more than 70oC. In addition, the pasteurization process is also still a problem in the honey industry. Therefore it is necessary to make pasteurization tools with automatic and fast temperature control in the pasteurization process. The purpose of this study was to observe the rate of heat penetration into pasteurized honey material and the amount of honey weight pasteurized, then also measured changes in water content, viscosity, degree Brix, and density of density. From the results of measurements of heat penetration rates in pasteurization and conventional pasteurization devices, the difference in time duration on stoves 1, 2, and 3 to increase the initial temperature of 35 oC to 65oC respectively were 45, 45, and 42 minutes with a total of 101 honey, 22 kg while in conventional equipment takes 50 minutes to heat honey as much as 46,780 kg. Gas consumption on stove 1 was 0.291 g/(kgoC), stove 2 was 0.281 g/(kgoC), stove 3 was 0.285 g / (kgoC), whereas gas consumption on conventional stove was 0.272 g/(kgoC). The results of measurements of water content, viscosity, Brix, and density of density before and after pasteurization were as follows 21.99%, 4.835 poise, 63 obrix, 1.356 kg/m3, and 19.82%, 5.453 poise, 64 obrix, 1.358 kg/m3.

Abstract

The development of the food processing industry carried out by MSMEs in Indonesia is still largely dominated by traditional processing systems. A problem occurred in terms of the need for much labor to require higher production processes. An example of MSMEs that currently in promising development is the cassava chips snack industry. Many employees involved in the cassava chips production process, long production process, and the cassava chips (lanting) produced is a lack of uniformity. This study aims to design and fabricate a lanting extruder machine with a capacity of 40 kg/hour with a 0.5 HP electric motor. The FEA simulation results with the loading of 490.5 N using Autodesk Inventor 2020 software showed a maximum Von Misses stress of 17.68 MPa, a displacement of 0.04 mm, and a safety factor of 11.7.

Abstract

This final project makes a device that produces electrical energy by utilizing waste heat from injection machines. The waste heat of the injection machine is converted into electrical energy using a thermoelectric. This device consists of an aluminum heatsink, aluminum plate, thermoelectric, MDF wood planks, engine gasket, and thermal paste. The heat generated by the injection machine is received by the hot side heatsink, then 4 units of the thermoelectric and the cold side heatsink. Thermoelectrics are arranged in series. The output from the thermoelectric is connected to a multimeter to test the amount of voltage and current generated. The number of thermoelectric-based equipment made of 2 (two) pieces and assembled in series. The test was carried out using an open circuit and a closed circuit with a load using a 1 watt LED lamp (Ω 55 Ω). The open circuit test results show that the largest voltage is generated at 10.80 volts with a hot side temperature of 108C and a cold side temperature of 64˚C. The results of the closed circuit test show that the greatest voltage produced is 2.64 volts with a hot side temperature of 108 C and a cold side temperature of 62 C. When thermoelectric based equipment is given a load, the voltage decreases because the voltage is divided into the given load. This equipment can be applied to turn on as many as 5 lamps with a power of 1 watt each which supports production activities in the injection workshop.
