Abstract

Oil palm plantations have positive and negative impacts on the environmental, social and economic aspects of local communities. Through an understanding of the data on environmental, social and economic conditions makes it easier for decision makers in policy. This research uses survey methods and in-depth interviews (state the number of respondents, state in-depth interviews). This study aims to measure the level of economic, social and ecological vulnerability due to oil palm plantations. The data used are primary data and secondary data. Primary data collection through structured and in-depth observation and interviews. Secondary data is obtained from the village office, related government agencies, BPS, books, journals, or data from the internet which contains theories or related research results. The results of this study explain that oil palm expansion that occurs in Terantang Manuk Village is through the PIR-Trans pattern, KKPA, PKS without plantation, buying and selling, grants, and self-help or independent. The environmental impact caused by oil palm expansion is reducing fruit, fish, vegetable and game shellfish and decreasing the quantity of groundwater, especially during the dry season. The economic impact due to the expansion of oil palm plantations has seen an increasingly unified economy between the upper, middle and lower classes. Meanwhile, the resulting social impact is the change in customary norms, the practice of leasing and new conflicts.

Abstract

The main problems of this research include two things, namely: (1) what local wisdom is related to the management of natural resources owned by the mining circle community in Central Halmahera Regency, and (2) how is the existence of the local wisdom of the mining circle community in managing natural resources? nature in Central Halmahera Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach that collects through document studies (literature review), observations (observations), and in-depth interviews. Research informants are people who live in the mining area which are determined by purposive sampling based on their knowledge and experience related to the research topic. The data collection locations were in the Central Halmahera Regency area covering two sub-districts, namely North Weda and Central Weda Districts. The results of the study show that the communities around the mines in Central Halmahera Regency classify natural resources based on where or where the resources are located, namely resources that are on the mainland. In managing these various natural resources, communities around mining have various traditions that can be seen as a form of local wisdom. The entry of the mining industry into Central Halmahera Regency has no more positive impacts than the negative effects it produces. Mining companies are seen by residents as 'giants' that destroy water sources that are vital for residents' lives so that they can no longer be used. In its development, the presence of mining companies, especially PT. IWIP, influences the existence of local wisdom in the communities in the study locations related to the management of their natural resources.

Abstract

Groundwater vulnerability study research conducted in Paya Ateuk Village, Pasie Raja District uses the SINTACS method. This method is an overlay method that combines 7 primary maps, namely soil texture maps, infiltration maps, slope maps, groundwater depth maps, rock unit maps, aquifer lithology maps, and hydroulic conductivity maps. Then the results of the assessment on the primary map parts are multiplied by the weight on the SINTACS classification and the results are combined into 1 groundwater vulnerability overlay map. The results of the map overlay produce 822 sections that have a range of groundwater vulnerability values ??at a score of 103.75 – 201.5 with low to high classification. Karst hill areas generally have moderate vulnerability values. Whereas in the lowlands with residential land use has a high vulnerability. This is due to the flat slope with sandstone, and moderate infiltration. Besides that, the texture of the soil is large and the depth of the groundwater is shallow. So that contamination on the surface can easily affect the quality of water in groundwater. Meanwhile, the groundwater vulnerability value is high in a narrow area with the use of paddy fields. Based on measurements of the quality of groundwater in wells owned by residents, it shows that the groundwater in the research location is of good quality. This is due to the large number of natural phytoremediation plants around the research area. Although the quality of groundwater is in good condition. The government as the policy maker still needs to regulate and provide official permits for traditional gold miners who are classified as illegal and continue to monitor the environment around traditional gold processing areas.
