Abstract

PT. Manufacturing Surabaya is a manufacturing company engaged in the production of clip components for automotive suspension systems. In carrying out its production activities, the company prioritizes high-quality products and good production productivity levels. The problem faced by the company is the high changeover setup time in the Production Division, specifically on the Press Machine. The changeover setup process of the dies on the press machine takes a long time during machine downtime. The setup changeover process reaches up to 3,126 seconds for a single changeover. This study aims to identify the factors causing the lengthy setup changeover process and to propose improvements using the Single Minutes Exchange of Dies (SMED) method. A fishbone diagram analysis indicates that the prolonged setup changeover time is caused by factors related to methods, manpower, machines, and environment.By implementing the SMED method, 21 internal activities were reduced to 16 internal activities. This change reduced the setup time from 3,126 seconds to 2,821 seconds, resulting in a 10% reduction in setup time and thereby improving production productivity.

Abstract

PT. XYZ is a manufacturing company that produces various products such as PVC pipes, concrete products, and wooden furniture, including chairs. Currently, the company faces constraints in controlling raw material inventory for BR-600 Chair and Folding Chair products because it has not used scientific calculation methods in planning its needs. This causes an imbalance between the amount of inventory and production needs, which has an impact on overstock and understock. Overstock results in increased storage costs and the risk of obsolete raw materials, while understock causes production delays and potential loss of sales. This study aims to design a raw material inventory control system using a dynamic deterministic approach and determine the most optimal method. The approaches used include demand forecasting using the Single Exponential Smoothing and Moving Average methods, as well as calculating safety stock, optimal order size (lot size), and total inventory costs. Furthermore, inventory control planning is carried out using the Wagner-Whitin Algorithm and Silver-Meal Algorithm. The results of the study show that the application of the Wagner-Whitin Algorithm and Silver-Meal Algorithm methods in dynamic deterministic inventory control can reduce the total cost of raw material inventory for BR-600 Chair and Folding Chair by 5% and 3% respectively compared to the company's real method previously used by the company. Between the two, the Wagner-Whitin Algorithm method proved to be the most optimal with a total inventory cost of IDR 3,388,833,000.

Abstract

This study investigates the feasibility of investing in additional logistics fleets at PT XYZ, a manufacturing company based in East Java engaged in the production of rice and glutinous rice flour using imported raw materials. The complexity of distribution in the context of growing demand from MSME customers has caused operational problems in the form of late deliveries and backlog orders due to the limited number of available fleets. To overcome these problems, this study applies a quantitative approach based on investment analysis techniques, including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period (PP), and Sensitivity Analysis. Primary data were obtained from field observations and interviews, while secondary data came from the company's logistics records for the period November 2023 to January 2024. The results of the analysis show that additional fleets have a significant impact on improving service quality and distribution cost efficiency. The NPV and IRR approaches indicate that the investment is financially feasible, with a positive NPV value and IRR exceeding MARR. Meanwhile, the Payback Period is within a reasonable payback period according to the economic life of the fleet. Further sensitivity analysis confirms that variables such as operating costs and annual income are the main determinants of investment feasibility. These findings provide a strategic basis for data-based logistics investment decision-making, while strengthening the company's competitiveness in meeting customer expectations amidst competitive market dynamics.

Abstract

The Bojonegoro Cassava Chip MSME “Pak Ipul” faces production capacity constraints because its cassava slicing machine can only process 30 kg of cassava per hour. This study aims to redesign the cassava slicing machine by improving several key components such as the cassava feed chute, cutting blade, frame, motor + reducer, and drive system. The machine redesign is based on operator anthropometric data, referencing body dimensions such as elbow height while seated (64.46 cm), polyptal height (40.85 cm), knee height (50.33 cm), distance from elbow to fingertip (74.66 cm), and hip width while seated (45.15 cm), to create an ergonomic and safe design for the operator. The newly designed machine has a production capacity of 60 kg per hour, which is more efficient than the previous machine. The total cost of manufacturing the new machine is Rp 6,000,000, with raw material costs of Rp 3,900,000 and labor costs of Rp 2,100,000. Test results show a 50% increase in productivity, with a reduction in the time required to slice 75 kg of cassava from 2.5 hours to 1.25 hours. Depreciation analysis indicates that the new machine has a longer economic lifespan of 5 years, with annual depreciation of Rp 1,080,000, compared to the old machine, which only lasted 1 year. The Net Present Value (NPV) calculation for the new machine shows Rp 1,060,798.76, significantly higher than the old machine, which only generates Rp 24,235.45. Therefore, although the initial investment for the new machine is higher, it offers more significant long-term benefits and is worthwhile as an investment.
