Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of mindset, encompassing growth mindset and fixed mindset, on academic grit among working Guidance and Counseling students in Medan. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 167 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using the Mindset Scale and the Academic Grit Scale and were analyzed using simple linear regression with IBM SPSS Statistics version 19. The results indicated that the instruments met the validity and reliability criteria. Regression analysis revealed that mindset had a positive and significant effect on academic grit (R = 0.895, R² = 0.801, F = 664.481, p < .05). Mindset accounted for 80.1% of the variance in academic grit, while the remaining 19.9% was attributable to other factors. These findings highlight the importance of fostering an adaptive mindset to strengthen students' persistence and consistency in balancing academic and work responsibilities.
