Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of self-compassion in mental load among high school students. The study employed a quantitative correlational design and involved 262 students from three high schools in Yogyakarta. Data were collected using the Mental Load Scale and the Self-Compassion Scale. Based on the results of this study, both instruments showed adequate validity and reliability as indicated by AVE, Cronbach’s Alpha, and Composite Reliability values. Analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares (PLS) based Structural Equation Modeling with SmartPLS 4.0. The validity results showed that all aspects had an Average Variance Extracted (AVE) > 0.50, while internal reliability for all aspects was good with Cronbach’s Alpha and Composite Reliability >0.70. The results showed that total self-compassion had a significant role in total mental load (β = 0.133, p < 0.05) and mental load aspects (β = 0.025, p < 0.05). However, total self-compassion also played an indirect role in mental effort aspects through total mental load as a mediator (T-statistic > 1.96, p < 0.05). The R-square values indicate strong predictive ability in most aspects, including the mental load aspect (0.942) and the mental effort aspect (0.936). These findings indicate that students with higher levels of self-compassion tend to cope more adaptively with academic and emotional pressures. Therefore, school-based guidance and counseling services can be utilized to help students manage mental load by strengthening self-compassion through individual or group counseling.

Abstract

Sexual harassment is the behavior of asking for unwanted sexual activity, whether physical, verbal, or otherwise. This study aims to understand the experiences of victims of sexual harassment through Kubler-Ross's 5 stages of Grief, namely denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, so that victims of sexual harassment can understand the stages of non-death grief, not feel alone, and not blame themselves. The method used is a qualitative case study approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. Participants were 16-year-old female students who experienced sexual harassment. Data analysis techniques through 4 stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity techniques were carried out by triangulation of source data, namely by combining the results of interviews, observations, and documentation, and strengthened by previous research. The results of the study showed that participants experienced 5 stages of grief, although not sequentially.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of gadget addiction on the emotional stability of tenth-grade students at Sultan Agung 1 Islamic High School, Semarang. The research employed a quantitative correlational design involving a sample of 83 students who were selected to represent the population. Two primary instruments were used in data collection, namely a gadget addiction questionnaire and an emotional stability scale, both of which were developed to measure students’ tendencies in using gadgets excessively and their ability to regulate emotions in daily life. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and simple linear regression, preceded by prerequisite tests including normality and linearity assessments. The results of the descriptive analysis indicated that the average score for gadget addiction was 73.70, which falls into the moderate category, while the emotional stability score averaged 71.84, categorized as high. Furthermore, the simple linear regression analysis revealed that gadget addiction contributed 50.6% to the variation in emotional stability, demonstrating a substantial influence. These findings suggest that although students’ emotional stability remains relatively good, excessive gadget use poses a significant risk factor for emotional decline. Therefore, the study highlights the crucial role of parents and schools in monitoring, guiding, and limiting students' gadget use to maintain their emotional well-being.

Abstract

Social media has become one of the main sources of information for students in learning about education and careers. This study aims to determine the effect of social media use on the career choices of 11th grade students at Sultan Agung 01 Islamic High School in Semarang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 152 students selected through simple random sampling. The instruments used were a social media usage scale and a career choice scale. Data analysis used a simple linear regression test with the help of SPSS version 22. The results showed a significant negative influence between social media usage and students' career choices, with a correlation coefficient of -0.465 and a significance of 0.000. The regression equation obtained, Y = 175.743 – 1.016X, shows that an increase in social media use is associated with a decrease in the accuracy of career choice, which is likely influenced by the dominance of non-educational content. These findings indicate that the higher the use of social media, the lower the accuracy of students' career choices. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen digital literacy and the role of guidance and counseling services by integrating social media as a means of targeted and educational career guidance, rather than limiting its use.

Abstract

This study examines how social support from family and colleagues relates to the psychological well-being of public school teachers in Edo State, Nigeria. Using a survey, 292 teachers from 10 secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area participated, with data collected via questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed a significant positive relationship between social support and teachers’ psychological well-being, with both family and colleague support identified as key predictors. The findings highlight the importance of fostering supportive social environments in schools to enhance teacher well-being. Recommendations include creating collaborative school cultures through team-building activities and regular staff meetings, implementing colleague support programs, promoting work-life balance through family-friendly policies, and offering training and resources on stress management, mindfulness, and self-care, along with access to counseling and wellness programs. These measures can guide policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals in improving teachers’ psychological health and overall job satisfaction.
