Abstract

Indonesia is a country full of cultural diversity. The language, food, and customs in each region have their own characteristics. This also happens in the pesantren. Each pesantren environment also has its own characteristics. Each student who comes from a different region brings the culture of each region. This causes social conflict between one another. Tolerance is an important value that presents itself as an individual attitude and contributes to peace and order. Tolerance can prevent conflicts within the group. Schools based on pesantren have a role in developing the character of tolerance to students. A counselor needs to have the ability to be sensitive to cultural differences. There needs to be an understanding of the cultural diversity that exists in a school based on pesantren. With an understanding of cultural differences, counselors can understand cultural biases that occur between one student and another. The cultural bias that causes conflict in the school based on the pesantren environment will also be minimized and can even be an alternative to conflict prevention. Cross-cultural counseling has the function of trying to understand humans thoroughly in their cultural context through an interpretative approach. The psychological function possessed by culture allows a study to understand a person's behavior through the expected social roles, norms, and regulations that apply in their environment. The existence of two-way communication in cross-cultural counseling provides students with an understanding of the values and norms contained in each culture. With cross-cultural counseling, it is hoped that it will be able to minimize cultural bias and create tolerance in a school based on pesantren.

Abstract

Secondary school teenagers' social retreat was examined in relation to self-efficacy and gender. The study is guided by two goals, two research questions, and two research hypotheses. It was conducted using a descriptive research correlational design. 100 youths were randomly selected from five senior secondary specialised schools. The General Self-Efficacy Scale by The University of Kansas Center (2015) r = 0.86; and the Social Ability Deficiency Scale (SADS/SPS) by Akinade (2017) r = 0.17 were used to collect the data. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation and T-test were used in the study to formulate and test two research hypotheses. Results showed that there is a very strong positive relationship between self-efficacy and social withdrawal (p. 0.05 < r.cal. = 0.863), but there is no significant relationship between male and female adolescents’ social withdrawal behaviour (p. 0.05 < t.cal. = 31.318). Based on the results, the study concluded that self-efficacy has a significant positive relationship with social withdrawal among secondary school adolescents. The study also concluded that female adolescents were more affected by social withdrawal behaviour than their male counterparts. Based on the conclusion, the study recommends, among others that the school management set aside a day for adolescents to engage in co-play. The school counsellors should organise a conference for female adolescents to orientate them more on self-evaluation in order to help them be aware of social withdrawal behaviour symptoms and how to build on their self-efficacy.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the level of parental knowledge regarding the Gluten-Free Sugar-Free (GFSF) diet and to identify the various challenges they face in its implementation for children with special needs. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 48 participating parents. Results showed that 50% of respondents had a high level of knowledge about the GFSF diet, 37.5% had moderate knowledge, and 12.5% had basic knowledge. No respondents had low knowledge. However, all respondents (100%) reported experiencing significant challenges in implementing the GFSF diet, including difficulties in accessing food ingredients, costs, and lack of practical knowledge. These findings indicate the need for more targeted interventions to support parents in overcoming these challenges, including improving the accessibility and affordability of GFSF products and providing educational programs tailored to their specific needs. This study provides important insights for developing effective strategies to support the health and well-being of children with special needs through the GFSF diet.
