Abstract

Current environmental problems need to be a significant concern, but there has not been much research that integrates ecolinguistics in BIPA learning. This research aims to describe the implementation of ecolinguistic-based BIPA learning on listening and speaking skills for Vietnamese BIPA students. This research used a mixed-method research approach with a sequential exploratory strategy. The research was conducted in Vietnam with subjects of 26 BIPA students and BIPA program teachers. The research instruments used were observation sheets, interview guides, questionnaires, and documentation. Qualitative data is analyzed descriptively through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of qualitative data is carried out using technical triangulation. Quantitative data was analyzed descriptively using the JASP 0.17.1.0 application. The research results show that ecolinguistic-based BIPA learning in Vietnam uses scientific strategies through traditional Indonesian food. The media used is flash cards. There is a positive correlation between the listening and speaking skills of BIPA students in Vietnam. Apart from the learning innovations that have been carried out, there is also a need for innovation in BIPA teaching materials based on pluricultural competencies so that BIPA students learn not only Indonesian but also Indonesian culture.

Abstract

The Karampuang Indigenous People are still actively carrying out rituals to worship the spirits of their ancestors as a form of thanksgiving and a wish for a better life. However, for some of the Karampuang Indigenous people, this ritual is only a form of gratitude and respect for traditional leaders. This research aims to explore and reveal how the Mappogau Sihanua ritual influences and shapes religious, social, and cultural values in Karampuang Indigenous peoples. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method with the subject, namely the people in the location of the Karampuang Traditional Village, Tompobulu Village, Bulupoddo District, Sinjai Regency. Through the stages of analysis, including data reduction, data presentation, and data verification in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation, the findings reveal several efforts that can be made to preserve Karampuang Indigenous culture. This study shows that the ritual tradition of Mappogau Sihanua needs to be preserved by increasing inclusivity so that it can be accepted by the wider community, including people who do not understand myths that are considered sacred. The acknowledgment of various cultural identities in society is made possible by inclusivity. Within the Karampuang traditional community, maintaining the Mappogau Sihanua custom can symbolize acknowledging the plurality of cultures.

Abstract

This study explores the tradition of “tolak balak” (warding off bad luck) by “juru ladi” (female traditional leaders) in Javanese traditional wedding ceremonies in one village in Central Java, Indonesia, through an ethnolinguistic approach. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through observation and interviews. Data analysis was conducted to identify the form and meaning of linguistic units and local wisdom. This research aims to provide a deeper understanding of the richness of local culture and give new insights into ethnolinguistics. The study findings reveal various forms and meanings of linguistic units that illustrate the community's cultural wealth and local wisdom, such as words, phrases, and discourse. Words include multiple terms and objects used in ceremonies, such as offerings, traditional tools, ritual feasts, and food. In addition, phrases are used in the "tolak balak" process, such as the offerings' names and attributes. These discourses contain spiritual and mystical values that are believed by the local community as part of local wisdom. Local wisdom in the form of taboos is also found in the tolak balak tradition. The community believes in maintaining the sanctity and smoothness of the wedding ceremony. This study's contribution to ethnolinguistics is to enrich the understanding of the interaction between language and culture in a local context. Thus, it can provide new insights into how traditional practices and language are interconnected in forming and preserving local wisdom.

Abstract

Chemistry students still have low levels of scientific literacy, although in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the transition to Society 5.0, students need these skills. An alternative for raising students' scientific literacy and character is the Culturally Wetland Responsive Teaching (CWRT) approach. This developmental research tested the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of e-modules based on CWRT for the colligative properties of solutions. The ADDIE development model was used for the research method. Both test and non-test instruments were used for data collection. The e-module was tested on 23 students from grades A1 and A2 in the Chemistry Education Study Program at a public university in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. The analysis showed that the e-modules were highly valid regarding content, presentation, language, and media feasibility. They were also highly practical in individual and small group tests, limited trials, and assessing lecturers' ability to use e-modules and manage classes. The modules were effective, as evidenced by the N-gain value of science literacy competence and the wasaka character of students in the high category. The results suggest that e-modules based on Culturally Wetland Responsive Teaching are valid, practical, and effective for teaching the colligative properties of solutions.

Abstract

The number of scientific publications published by countries reflects their ability to innovate. The government has made several efforts to encourage the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) to publish innovative scientific papers relevant to the ASN's functional scope of duties. One of these attempts is to provide basic scientific writing training. Basic scientific writing training is designed to accommodate participants from various backgrounds, including age, functional position, and functional position level. This research aims to determine whether cross-generational collaboration, cross-functional positions collaboration, and cross-level functional positions collaboration can produce a better quality of scientific writing content and seminars. This research involved 160 participants in 2023, divided into 80 coaching groups. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, boxplots, and cross-tabulation. The data was then analyzed further using ANOVA inferential statistics and Mann-Whitney non-parametric statistics. The results of data processing and analysis show that cross-generation collaboration and cross-level functional position can lead to significant improvements in scientific writing. On the other hand, cross-functional position collaboration delivers comparable results to coaching groups without collaboration. This study is expected to make a significant contribution to improving the quality of scientific papers written by participants with different functional positions, functional position levels, and generations.

Abstract

Early childhood is a critical period for language acquisition, where exposure to linguistic input and interaction plays a significant role in shaping language development. Understanding how children acquire a second language within diverse linguistic environments can provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of language learning. This study explores English language acquisition in a six-year-old child within the Natural Order Hypothesis (NOH) context. Using a case study methodology, the researcher analyzed the child's English usage through videos and interviews in a Batak-speaking environment. The goal is to determine if the child's language development followed the grammatical sequence suggested by the NOH while accounting for cognitive and sociolinguistic influences. The findings show a blend of expected NOH patterns and deviations due to the child's specific linguistic environment, media exposure, and family support. These findings emphasize the importance of input and interaction in second language acquisition (SLA), highlighting the adaptability of language learning to individual contexts. The study contributes to SLA research by demonstrating how theoretical models like the NOH intersect with the diverse experiences of learners, advocating for a holistic approach to understanding language acquisition. This research encourages further investigation into the various factors influencing language learning trajectories in young children.
