Abstract

This research investigates the factors influencing the adoption of healthy lifestyles among urban residents in Indonesia, a country experiencing rapid urbanization. The study addresses the rising challenges associated with physical inactivity, poor dietary habits, and obesity, which are increasingly prevalent in urban areas. Using a socio-ecological model, the research explores how individual, social, and environmental factors contribute to healthy lifestyle adoption. A cross-sectional survey was conducted across major Indonesian cities, with a sample size of 400 respondents. The findings reveal that autonomous motivation and social support significantly influence lifestyle behaviors, while environmental factors such as neighborhood walkability also play a crucial role. However, barriers such as unhealthy retail exposure and time constraints hinder the adoption of healthy behaviors. The study suggests that integrated interventions targeting both individual motivation and urban infrastructure, including improved walkability and healthier food environments, are necessary to promote healthy lifestyles. This research contributes to the socio-ecological framework by incorporating specific urban factors, providing actionable insights for policymakers and urban planners to enhance public health.

Abstract

Chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and chronic kidney failure are still major contributors to morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. However, long-term treatment compliance remains low, especially in areas with limited access to healthcare. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based telemedicine system in enhancing medication adherence among patients with chronic diseases in the post-pandemic era. The study design used a mixed method with a sequential explanatory approach, involving 300 patients from three representative areas (Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and East Sumba). Quantitative data collection was conducted using the Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS) instrument before and after the system was implemented for 3 months. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with patients and medical personnel. The results showed a significant increase in adherence scores (p<0.001) from an average of 6.8 to 8.9 after the intervention. AI features, such as medication reminders, self-monitoring, and interactive chatbots, have been shown to improve adherence and foster positive habits. Regression analysis showed a positive correlation between the intensity of interaction with the application and increased adherence. In-depth interviews revealed that the system was perceived as a "digital companion" that helped patients adhere to their medication regimen. However, barriers related to digital literacy and connectivity in rural areas remained. This study provides evidence that integrating AI into telemedicine services can be a strategic solution to improve adherence to chronic disease medication in Indonesia. These findings offer recommendations for the development of a national digital health system that is inclusive, adaptive, and data-driven. This research also supports the transformation service digital health as part of the post-pandemic health reform agenda.

Abstract

Mental health issues among adolescents in urban Indonesia are a growing concern, exacerbated by urbanization and socio-cultural factors. This research explores the challenges and opportunities in mental health care for adolescents in urban settings, specifically in cities like Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys of 300 adolescents and qualitative interviews to identify the prevalence of mental health disorders and the barriers to accessing care. The findings reveal a high prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress, with significant gender differences—females reporting higher rates of anxiety and depression. The study also identifies key barriers, including cultural stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to services, particularly for those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. While existing interventions show promise, they are insufficient in addressing the specific needs of adolescents. The research emphasizes the importance of gender-sensitive, community-based mental health programs and the potential role of digital solutions in improving accessibility and reducing stigma. The study concludes with actionable recommendations for policymakers, mental health professionals, and educators to enhance adolescent mental health care in urban Indonesia.

Abstract

Toner is a facial care product used to cleanse the skin of dirt and refresh the face. Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) are a natural source of antioxidants rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium, and lycopene. The objective of this study was to formulate a facial toner made from tomato fruit extract by observing the effect of varying surfactant concentrations on the formulation. This research was conducted experimentally. Four toner formulations were made with varying surfactant concentrations: F0 (0%), F1 (5%), F2 (7.5%), and F3 (10%). The resulting toners were then tested for stability over 6 cycles using the cycling test method. The evaluation of these formulations included organoleptic testing, homogeneity testing, viscosity testing, and pH testing. The results of the study of facial toner formulations of tomato fruit extract (Solanum lycopersicum L.) with variations in surfactant concentrations in F1 and F2 showed that the formulations were stable in organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, and pH tests but were not stable in viscosity tests, while F0 and F3 only met the requirements for pH testing. The conclusion from the results of all cycles in the stability test was that variations in surfactant concentration affected the physical stability of the toner formulation. Based on the study, there was no stable formula.

Abstract

Look Alike Sound Alike (LASA) drugs are drugs that have similarities in physical appearance, name, or pronunciation that can cause medication errors. Improper storage of LASA drugs is one of the main risk factors for dispensing errors in pharmacies. This study aims to evaluate the appropriateness of LASA storage at Pharmacy X based on Ministry of Health Regulation No. 73 of 2016. This study used a descriptive method with an observational and analytical approach based on the guidelines of Permenkes No. 73 of 2016. The study sample included all LASA drugs available at Pharmacy X, categorized into three groups: similar pronunciation, similar packaging, and drugs with different strengths. Of the total 59 LASA drug names evaluated, it was found that 91.52% of the drug names had been stored in accordance with the standards of Minister of Health Regulation No. 73 of 2016, while 8.48% still required improvements in the storage system by labeling all LASA-categorized drugs with the "LASA" label and using the Tall Man Lettering method for drug names that have similar pronunciations. The storage of LASA drugs at Pharmacy X is generally adequate. However, careful implementation of labeling and the use of tall man lettering are still required to achieve optimal standards and prevent medication errors. Medication errors can occur if drugs are not stored properly and are not labeled or marked, allowing for mistakes to be made when dispensing medication.

Abstract

Multiple gestation, particularly those involving a combination of breech and cephalic presentations, presents a complex obstetric challenge. This case report describes the successful vaginal delivery of a twin pregnancy with mixed presentation at 36/37 weeks of gestation. A 28-year-old woman, G2P1A0, presented in active labor with a cervical dilation of 4 cm. The first twin was in cephalic presentation, while the second was in breech. Following the NICE guidelines for twin delivery with a cephalic-presenting first twin, a vaginal delivery was planned. The first baby was delivered spontaneously. For the second, breech-presenting twin, an amniotomy was performed, followed by a Manual Aid for Breech Delivery, resulting in a safe vaginal birth. Both infants had satisfactory Apgar scores, and the third stage was managed without significant postpartum haemorrhage. This case demonstrates that with careful monitoring and skilled intervention, vaginal delivery is a viable and safe option for twin pregnancies with a cephalic-breech combination, potentially avoiding the need for cesarean section. The successful outcome underscores the importance of preparedness for breech extraction and holistic management during the intrapartum and postpartum periods.
