Abstract

The essential oil from crystal seedless guava leaves has several utilization as an antioxidant and antimicrobial active compound. Essential oil extraction with maceration and conventional method has many disadvantages, so the microwave hydrodistillation method is used as an alternative to optimizing its quantity and quality. This research aims to obtain the effect of microwave power and feed to the solvent ratio toward essential oil yield. The extraction of essential oil used crystal guava leaves with feed and solvent ratio (w/v) 1:4; 1:5; 1:6; 1:7. The extraction process was carried out at atmospheric pressure and 100 oC with an electrical power of microwave from 300, 450, and 600 watts over 3 hours. The result shows that microwave power and the ratio of feed to solvent (F/S) give a significant ratio to essential oil yield. Its yield rises significantly along with increasing microwave power and ratio of feed and solvent. The highest yield is obtained at 600 watts and 1:7 (w/v) ratio that is 1.0 %.

Abstract

Management and processing of organic solid waste are simpler than inorganic solid waste. Organic solid waste was more easily decomposed if it was disposed of or buried in the soil. There was no area for the community to be heaped up the organic solid waste. Moreover, the water level is relatively shallow, making it possible for organic waste to mix with groundwater. Corn cobs were an organic solid waste that was mostly produced by the seller of roasted corn or boiled corn on the side of the road. This corncob waste has a contribution to the increase in rubbish in solid waste disposal. For this reason, the use of corn cobs was necessary. This corncob waste can be used as handicrafts to replace handicrafts made from plastic. The community, especially housewives, has the potential to innovate in making handicrafts. It's just that it requires supportive technology for creativity. The results of this community service activity were several handicrafts made from corn cobs that have been processed and added with glycerol as a plasticizer. The method of reusing corncob waste into handicrafts has contributed to reducing corncob waste by corn sellers on the roadside. This community service activity in addition to increasing the creativity of housewives, also indirectly reduces the corn cobs heap in solid waste disposal.

Abstract

Modified starch is treated to change one or more physical or chemical properties. Modified starch is needed in food products to improve the texture of the paste, improve viscosity, and maintain starch granules at high temperatures. One chemical modification of starch is acetylation using acetic acid. Many tubers are not yet widely used, so they need to be developed through the change of acetylation-modified starches. Tubers (Colocasia esculenta) has a large enough starch content so that it has the potential to be processed and has high economic value. The purpose of this study was to determine the best treatment between the concentration of acetic acid and the soaking time in starch modification. This study used a completely randomized design factorial. The first factor was the concentration of acetic acid (4%, 6%, and 8%) and the second factor was the duration of soaking (30, 60, and 90 minutes). The best treatment was modified starch with 8% acetic acid and 90 minutes soaking time. This resulted to contained moisture of 5.97%, ash 1.39%, starch 63.49%, amylose 29.93%, swelling power 20.44 g / g, solubility 17.67%, yield 89.28%, substitution degree 0.66, viscosity 3589 cP.

Abstract

This study aims to explore challenges and learning behavior of children at Desa Balerejo, Kecamatan Pangungrejo, Blitar, in welcoming ICT introduction program. Education is the heart of community development. The creation of learning community and its’ development is sustained by community education, including its’ young generation education. Children are the future of the community. They will be the next leaders and their community developers. Thus, providing sufficient education is vital for assuring certain community existence and development sustainability. However, in reality, not all children can pursue equal education. Education in some remote areas is still left behind. Consequently, children in rural areas, are frequently suffering from educational disparities. The data are collected through direct observation during the community service program, through our roles as community service program providers as well as the instructors. The study is the result of our reflection, what happens in the field and what can be improved for future empowerment programs. The study indicates that there are several substantial factors determine and pose challenges for the effectiveness of ICT education for children at rural area. The first factor is culture and social context. Submissive and collectivism cultural orientation may affect the children’s behavior. The second aspect is the teaching approaches and learning psychology of children. Teaching method and materials should be adapted to the children, what they like and how they may learn best. The last factor is relating the nature of the empowerment program, which should be executed collaboratively and simultaneously with other programs.

Abstract

A school shuttle service required to arrive at the destination home on time for the students will not come late to school. However, the shuttle service often gets the incident delays to pick up the students, because the driver must wait for the students who were not ready at the previous pick up. There are many reasons that make those students unready to be picked up. For example, when the driver arrived they were still taking a bath, having their breakfast, getting dressed, and other reasons. The idea to create a mobile application which is able to shorten student shuttle time hoped to solve these problems, we called the application is ‘pick-them-up’. We designed the analysis of business process using Use Case and Activity Diagram, before we built the application. This application is installed on the android mobile phone for the parents, students and the shuttle driver. When the students are ready to be picked up, parents or students will press the ready button on the application. On the driver's screen application will appear the notification explain that the student is ready to be picked up. When the students will be back at their home, they will notice the location of the car through this application to make easier find the shuttle car service. The parents will also get a notification when the shuttle car service will start delivering the students at their home. This application does not only shorten the shuttle time and minimize student delays, but also make the students, parents, and driver more convenient. The test result of this application prototype achieved 100% of suitable features for the users.

Abstract

This research focuses on community motives in using communication technology, especially radio. The community refers to the listener of campus radio in a university. Community radio is a radio within the scope of a community of religion, university, government, or else. Finding out what is desired by the listener in community radio, a study is conducted using the uses & gratification theory, specifically testing the theory of gratification sought (motive). Gratification sought is a single variable and divided into 4 indicators: motives for seeking information, motives for interaction, motives for self-identity and motives for entertainment / diversion. Motive theory is used to find out what people's desire and need when listening to the radio. Data is collected by questionnaire and distributes through survey to 100 respondents as member of the community. This is a quantitative descriptive research with a single study case. The results of this study indicates that seeking entertainment / diversion is the main motive of the community in listening the campus radio, follow with information seeking. Respondents agree that radio emerge as an entertainment to provide / arise the spirit while they do assignments / works / activities on campus. The most delightful entertainment is music / songs both of Indonesian / western. Thus, the existence of community radio in campus could become a form of entertainment technology to support and improve of the quality of teaching and learning processes, especially for students who become the majority respondents of this study.

Abstract

Learning is an activity undertaken by students to achieve educational goals. This learning process takes place in the interaction between the components of students (students) and educators (lecturers) with the content of educational goals. While learning outcomes can be classified into three, 1) effectiveness, which is measured by the level of student achievement, 2). Efficient, measured by the ratio between effectiveness and the amount of study time and/or the number of learning costs, 3). Attractiveness, which is measured by observing the tendency of students to keep learning. Housing planning is one of the courses taught in UPNVJT Architecture education that studies the elements, guidelines, and provisions involved in planning a residential environment. This Textbook is the result of previous research entitled "The Concept of Open Space Planning in simple housing based on community participation", and "Regional Planning Center for Integrated Education and Training in UPNVJT in Wonosalam". This textbook is a guide for students in planning a whole new housing environment. The compilation of textbooks on Housing Planning will make it easier for students to complete the task of planning a new housing environment. Besides that this textbook can also be used as a reference in architecture design course 6: designing residential facilities and preparing Final Projects related to the built environment, especially residential (residential) both horizontal and vertical housing.
