Abstract

To enhance operational efficiency, several organizations have pursued business process re-engineering initiatives. Inevitably, this initiative involves the modernization and modification of existing information systems to support business processes. UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur is no exception; as a higher education institution carrying out its tri-dharma mission, UPN needs to improve its efficiency continuously. Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Masyarakat (LPPM) manages two of UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur's tri-dharma related to research and community service. LPPM UPN Veteran itself is classified in an "independent" cluster so that independent research grants can be handled internally. This LPPM oversees the processes of administration and the execution of analysis and community service. There are many obstacles to implementing these processes at this time, such as data that is not recorded in a good structure, making it challenging when information is immediately required. And the most critical thing is that these data are still not integrated with performance data for lecturers. Therefore, this research aims to solve these problems by reviewing existing business processes and developing new business processes to improve current business processes. The result of this research is a list of functional and non-functional requirements of applications that will be developed.

Abstract

Within a year, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" East Java could hold dozens of conferences at the national or international level. A conference is a business event that prioritizes both internal communication and external communication. Several complaints regarding the preparation and execution of conferences and events are limited publications and promotion of events on campus for potential participants, the possibility of an insufficient number of participants when the event held, the lack of interaction between organizers and potential participants, and lack of coordination between the committee and campus facility providers. This research offers an implementation of the Campus Event Management Information System (SEMARAK) using the prototyping method as a solution. This research methodology starts with capture, convert, coordinate, deliver, and reporting. The first stage of system development builds the ability to publish campus events, schedule campus activity dates, and organize campus facility management. The system is expected to reduce the obstacles that occur during the preparation and execution of events on campus.

Abstract

Twitter's sentiment analysis is one of the most interesting fields of research lately. It intertwines the natural language processing techniques with data mining. Up to this point, many algorithms have been proposed to better understand sentiment from text. The proposed method can be focused on the preprocessing step, dataset splitting method (training and testing), dataset balancing method (when the data is unbalanced), to the improvement of the existing algorithm. But, the main focus of this paper is on feature extraction from tweets using TF-IDF. The features obtained from this process are expected to improve the accuracy of the classification process. The dataset used in this research is in Indonesian, which has a very different form when compared to English. This dataset consists of 1068 manually labeled tweets related to the "school from home" policy caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, taken from March to July. All steps required to process this data will be implemented using python. To validate its utility, the performance of the proposed method is compared with each other. Finally, the results are summarized by reflecting on the impact of the inclusion of the proposed features for each classification algorithm for sentiment detection

Abstract

Many techniques of presenting information in programming languages, mainly for data that amounts to less than 100 record data. Moreover, if the data has reached more than 10,000 data, application performance will slow down. This has several factors, one of which is the process or the way data is presented by the code/algorithm in a programming language. The purpose of this paper is to show the effects of comparisons of code/algorithms in presenting data, expected outcome of this comparison of code/algorithm is to demonstrate increasing code/algorithm can present data faster.

Abstract

This study aims to find a communication model and standard operational procedure of digital publication design Policies to support lecturers' performance in administration at UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur, particularly for the functional position. Thus, the model and design hopefully could ensure legal certainty and public hearing media. The method began with identifying the problems that arise regarding the implementation of policies in the university. The sampling technique involved quantitative and qualitative, which utilized non-random sampling in the form of a questionnaire. Then, the formulation of solutions that answer these problems through the identification of problem-solving efforts was generated. The solution was packaged to provide a communication model and digital publication design of the Policy of Standard Operational Procedure for Lecturers in the UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur. It was found that there were quite problems, especially that there had not been centralized SOP yet. Consequently, many ambiguities occurred so that the lecturers became confused and felt uncertain about the procedure to proceed with their functional position.

Abstract

Bullying behavior in elementary school children is increasing daily, following the current development of the digital era. It has become one of the most important cases to be followed up on because it can negatively affect the children's morals and it can also hurt others. Therefore, as an effort to tackle bullying cases, it is necessary to deliver innovative anti-bullying educational messages to children at the elementary school level, in hopes that children will become more interested, and will be easier to absorb the educational messages. Innovative anti-bullying educational messages can be delivered through an interesting and fun storyline of the board game media. The steps used to construct this research are identifying the problem or phenomenon, primary and secondary data collection, and analyzing the primary and secondary data using the Questioning Method of 5W + 1H (What, Why, Who, Where, When, How ) to compile anti-bullying educational messages for elementary school children which are packaged attractively through the storyline of a board game. This study concludes that there was three rating weight of anti-bullying actions carried out by elementary school children, namely mild, moderate, and severe. Each rating weight of anti-bullying has five forms of bullying so that there are 15 forms of bullying in total. Each bullying act is then processed into a case study in the form of questions on the board game, with a question model that intentionally touches the empathy of elementary school children. Each question has three positive answer options with different levels of anti-bullying (levels 1, 2, and 3). These levels of anti-bullying are the points that will be obtained by each player (level 1 = 1 point, level 2 = 2 points, level 3 = 3 points). If the player gets a total of 15 points as minimum points, then the player is considered to have low anti-bullying action if the player gets a total of 15-30 points, then the player is considered to have moderate anti-bullying action, and if the player gets a total of 30-45 points, then players are considered to have high anti-bullying actions. These total points are the rewards on this board game.

Abstract

Photography in today's era is a device that is always there and used by every human being. Before the emergence of photography techniques, the media was dominated by illustration techniques used for story media with graphic novels or comics. However, over time, photography was also able to perform digital engineering schemes to create visual models and illustration techniques, but it was not popular. To support the development of photography techniques in various fields, a continuous discussion is needed so that each research can define photography as a technique to convey messages, especially in media that require pictorial stories. This research stage will reveal the initial stages and the factors that can be applied in further research. Therefore, this research is classified as a descriptive study as the initial discussion of the research. This study will use a qualitative approach by collecting literature observation data and comparing selected visual samples.

Abstract

This paper aims to show that for the safety of the occupants in today's architecture, we could learn from the spatial arrangement of the past architecture. In this paper, the adoption of the historiography method from historians was used to trace the genealogy of past architecture. Historiography is a method that is used to trace history back to the past to understand the past. By using historiography, the genealogy (line of a descendant) of vernacular Javanese building will be traced to find the transitional space in the spatial arrangement of the complex of housing. And then, the genealogy of vernacular Japanese buildings will be traced too, to find the transitional space in their spatial arrangement housing. To represent the European building, the genealogy of the Greek building will be used. Again, transitional space will be traced in their building. After that, the finding from these tracing will be compared to find the similarity and differences of the transition spaces. The result of this study showed that people from countries of samples did not design their building with open access to the spatial arrangement. There is always a transitional space from outside of the building to inside of the building. Because open access will make the occupants of the building prone to safety. Not only from tangible (physical) threats but also the intangible threats.
