JESS (Journal of Education on Social Science)
Journal of Education on Social Science (JESS) ISSN: 2622-0741 (Print), ISSN 2550-0147 (Electronic) is a peer-reviewed journal and published biannually (twice in a year): April and October by the Faculty of Social Science, Universitas Negeri Padang, Indonesia. The journal aims to publish research and theoretical articles within the field of social science education, and to analyze a range of contemporary educational issues on social science. The content of this international journal offers a genuinely valuable source for educationist and educational scientists in all areas looking for fresh ways of dealing with familiar problems. Distinguished contributors from all over the world present in-depth research and case histories which have tangible practical value and whose methodologies can be applied to solve or mitigate parallel situations. <![CDATA[This study tried to proof if the use of Talking Stick learning model could improve student activities in Social Science subject matter in SMPN 2 Ranah Pesisir. This study was a classroom action research conducted at grade VIII 2 SMPN 2 Ranah Pesisir in the first semester of Academic Year of 2012/2013 with a population consisted of 34 students. This study was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was carried out with three meetings. From the results of the study it could be concluded that there was a significant increase in students' activities using Talking Stick learning model. By applying this model, students’ activities increased. In addition, they were more motivated to learn because they thought this model was interesting and fun. The results of this study showed the increasing of Social Science learning activities after the implementation of cooperative learning with Talking Stick model. It means that the Talking Stick model could improve student learning activities in Social Science subject at grade VIII 2 SMPN 2 Ranah Pesisir.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed to reveal the effect of the educational level on organizational performance and the effect of leadership on organizational performance of Local Organization Unit (SKPD) in Solok City. This study was an ex-post facto study. The population of this study was all Local Organization Unit in Solok which in total amounted to 40 units. The sample of this study consisted of 36 Local Organization Units determined through simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire with Likert scale that have been tested their validity and reliability. Then the data were analyzed with multiple regression analysis. The results of this study indicated that: (1) the education level did not significantly influence the organizational performance of Local Organization Unit, and (2) leadership had a significantly influence on the organizational performance of Local Organization Unit in Solok City. This study recommended in terms of public sector policies that the managers of Local Organization Units of Solok City needed to motivate their employees to improve their education to a higher level, providing support to their leaders in implementing the leadership function well in terms of influencing, motivating, directing and guiding employees to perform their jobs well.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by the Padang city BPBD in managing temporary evacuation sites. This type of research is qualitative with descriptive methods. The results of this study indicate that the strength of the Regional Disaster Management Agency in the City of Padang in managing this temporary evacuation site is to have a legal basis such as a Decree issued by the Padang BPBD Chief of Management in conducting management, law number 24 of 2007 concerning countermeasures disaster and lau number 28 of 2002 concerning building. As for the Weaknesses faced are human resources and the limited budges for managing temporary evacuation sites. Then what becomes an opportunity is that the existence of the legal basis provides an opportunity to collaboration with other organizations in evaluating the management of temporary evacuations sites. Furthermore, the threat faced is the presence of irresponsible people who take electrical equipment arround the temporary evacuations site]]>

<![CDATA[This research is motivated by the existence of the problem of illegal levies carried out by the school against students who are not based on certain rules and not through an agreement between the school and parents or also referred to as Illegal Levies. The research was conducted to find out the strategy of the Team Saber Pungli Padang City in an effort to eradicate the education sector illegal fees in Padang City, as well as the obstacles faced and efforts to overcome these obstacles. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. The research informants were conducted purposively. The type of data used is primary data and secondary data with data collection techniques using source triangulation techniques. Then the data is analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions / verification that are carried out during the research process. The results of the study can be concluded that the saber pungli team strategy in eradicating extortion there are several stages, namely: intelligence, prevention through socialization, action and justice. The researcher concluded that the Padang City illegal broom team team strategy had been implemented and for the results had begun optimally, as evidenced by the response from the community about no more illegal fees made by the school against students and reduced public reports of extortion in school. To be more optimal and the success of this strategy, it is better for the team to work together again with all government and community groups to jointly eradicate illegal fees.]]>

<![CDATA[This study was motivated by various problems of dissatisfaction felt by the society to the less qualified service from employees in the public sector. This study aims to determine whether the competence of employees influence the quality of services in the District Integrated Administration Services (PATEN) in Kuranji Subdistrict, Padang City. This is a quantitative study. The population in this study consisted of 96,098 people with the sample of 398 respondents. The sampling technique used in this study was proportional sampling technique. The data of this study were analyzed with simple linear regression analysis. The result of data analysis showed that the competence of employees had a positive and significant influence on the quality of PATENT service in Kuranji Subdistrict, Padang City with total influence of 53.7%. This showed that the higher the competence of the employees would be the higher the quality of service PATENT in the Kuranji Subdistrict.]]>

<![CDATA[ABSTRAK This paper discusses the dynastic politics phenomena that occur according to the Islamic view. The political legitimacy of dynasties is not regulated in the Islamic political system, but in reality, dynastic political practices are widely applied in Islamic governments and in governments where the majority of the people are Muslim. This paper is a research library with data sources consisting of primary data and secondary data. While data analysis uses inductive, deductive and comparative methods. The results of the study concluded that dynastic politics according to Islam was permissible, if it was based on the conditions of the existing leader and must be by the appointment process exemplified by prophet and prophet's best friend and a leader by the expectations of the people and the leader was an expert in his field. While dynastic politics should not be if a leader is a person or group will and is not an expert as a leader and puts personal or group interests first. <![CDATA[This article (study) was summarized as a reflection of writers experiences in conducting Community Service program among teachers of SMAN 1 and SMAN 4 in Solok Selatan Regency. This study was inspired by various conditions that indicated the decline in professionalism of teachers in various schools in Solok Selatan Regency. This issue was, among others, reflected in the low quality and competence of teachers in creating scientific work. As one of the educational actors in schools, every teacher should have the ability to develop their career and professionalism through the creation of scientific work. Therefore the roles and responsibilities of teachers are highly required to be able to create scientific work.The teacher's ability to create scientific work will greatly determine the success of the teacher in their career and at the same time it would determine the quality of education as a whole. Based on this condition, various career development policies and programs and teacher professionalism were needed, among others, in the form of increasing capacity in creating scientific works for high school teachers in Solok Selatan Regency. These career development activities and programs and teacher professionalism needed to be conducted collaboratively and synergistically between the local government, schools, universities, and the Education Quality Assurance Agency (LPMP).]]>

<![CDATA[BEM (Student Executive Organization) was basically a campus executive institution that has a function to coordinate all student activities in the university environment through student organizations. However, the coordination that was carried out by BEM UNP with the student organizations within UNP for period for of 2016-2017 was not effective. The BEM and the student organizations’ work program went on singly without supporting and cooperating. The synergy among the student organizations has not yet reached. This study aims to analyze students’ perceptions of BEM UNP performance in coordinating with the student organizations in UNP for period of 2016-2017. This study used descriptive quantitative method. The sample in this study were 100 students in UNP determined with Slovin formula and Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires with Likert scale measurements and interviews. The finding of this study showed that the students’ perceptions about the coordination of BEM UNP with the students organizations in UNP for period of 2016-2017 were in the medium category with the mean of 2.68. Based on this result, BEM UNP needs more efforts to build up the communication and maintain the coordination with the student organizations, so that the synergy among the student organizations could be realized well]]>

<![CDATA[This study tried to investigate whether the use of cooperative learning model of Make A Match type could increase the learning activity of students in the class XI IS of SMAN 2 Batusangkar. This research is qualitative and carried out in class XI IS of SMAN 2 Batusangkar in the academic year 2017/2018. The study was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data of the student activities was obtained from observer using observation sheet. The finding of this study indicated that Civics learning using coopertive learning models of type Make A Match could improve the student activities in civics learning at the class XI IS of SMAN 2 Batusangkar. Learning activities of the students in the second cycle had increased significantly. Based on the finding of this study, it is concluded that learning by using cooperative learning model of Make A Match type could improve the civics learning activities in the classroom XI IS of SMAN 2 Batusangkar.]]>

<![CDATA[As many as 56.46% of cases of violations of children's rights are sexual crimes and the rest is physical violence and child abuse. This research uses descriptive qualitative research case. Informants in this study were determined by purposive sampling, several research informants namely the Head of the Protection of Women's Rights and Child Protection in the Office of the Women's Empowerment Office for Child Protection, Population and Family Planning Control and the Office of Education for violence against children in the context of sexual violence every year is always increasing. The results of this study indicate that the strategies and efforts of the Women's Empowerment Office for Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning (DP3AP2KB) in providing protection and prevention of sodomy victims to elementary school students in the city of Padang can be said to be quite good and but not yet comprehensive in minimizing cases. The strategies used by the P3AP2KB Office have generally been planned and ordered according to stages. However, the strategy used was not optimal due to the inaccurate targeting of the strategy used by the Padang City P3AP2KB Office.]]>
