Abstract

Background: Stunting is one of the main health problems in Indonesia which is associated with an increased risk of disease, mortality, and a suboptimal brain development. The prevalence of stunting in East Java is 33,6% (above the national prevalence).  Semampir District has a total of 1.399 stunting cases. Exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, and maternal education can contribute to supporting child's health that can help prevent stunting.   Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between a history of exclusive breastfeeding, a history of complementary feeding and maternal education with stunting in children age 12-36 months in the working area of the Sidotopo Public Health Center Surabaya. Methods: This study was a cross sectional design with simple random sampling. The sample size were 78 children age 12-36 months in the Sidotopo Public Health Center working area. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Data analysis using Chi-square test. Results: The results showed that there was no significant relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.121), complementary feeding (p=0.185) and maternal education (p=0.919) with stunting in children 12-36 months, but most stunted children had a history of non-exclusive breastfeeding (44.4%), came from mothers with low education levels (36.9%) and had a history of inappropriate complementary feeding (42.3%). Conclusions: There were many determinants of stunting in children, not only caused by exclusive breastfeeding, the pattern of complementary feeding, and maternal education, but also caused by factors such as birth weight, maternal nutritional status, birth length, hygiene and sanitation, and others.

Abstract

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the emergence of nutritional issues among one vulnerable group, which is toddlers, due to inadequate daily nutrient intake. The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on various sectors and disrupted activities, such as the ineffectiveness of health services for toddlers during the Covid-19 pandemic and a decline in income so that households find it difficult to share food expenditure with other needs. Objectives: This research explores the connection between family income and food security and the nutritional status of children under five years in Pasuruan Regency during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: The research method used is analytical observational with a cross-sectional study design. The sample size consisted of 100 toddlers, selected through multistage sampling, which involves dividing the population into smaller clusters. The research and data collection were conducted from June 2022 to August 2022 at the Pandaan Subdistrict's Integrated Health Center (Posyandu). The US-HFSSM questionnaire was used to assess household food security, while the Weight-for-Age (W/A), Height-for-Age (H/A), and Weight-for-Height (W/H) indices were used to assess the nutritional status of the toddlers. The statistical test employed was the chi-square test. Results: Families with income below UMK are 58%, and 42% of households are in a food insecure situation. An assessment of the nutritional status of children under five years revealed that most of the children under five years fell into the normal weight category (68%), normal height category (79%) and good nutrition category (52%). The results of statistical tests revealed a connection between family income and the nutritional status of infants with the weight-age and weight-height conditions (p=0.016) and (p=0.015), as well as between household food security variable and nutritional status of toddlers in terms of weight-for-age (p=0.040), height-for-age (p=0.013), and weight-for-height (p=0.042). Conclusions: Approximately 58% of families are classified as having income below the minimum wage (UMK). The majority of respondents, 71%, experienced a decrease in family income. About 58% of households were categorized as having vulnerable food security scores, indicating a risk of food insecurity. The assessment of nutritional status among toddlers showed that the majority of them fall into the normal weight category (68%), normal height category (79%), and good nutritional status category (52%)

Abstract

Background: Many teenagers use social media applications because of the many interesting features that are entertaining and effective for communicating. But unfortunately, social media is often used to carry out negative actions by teenagers, such as cyberbullying. There are so many types of cyberbullying that can be done by teenagers, one of which is body shaming. Some teenagers who receive body shaming comments on their social media, experience psychological effects such as eating disorders. Eating disorder behaviors that arise as a result of body shaming often appear in adolescents. Objectives: To see the effect between the use of social media and body shaming and eating disorders in adolescents. Methods: Review the literature on articles related to the topic with the keywords social media, body shaming, eating disorders and adolescents. Discussion: The results obtained from the 11 articles stated a significant relationship between social media and body shaming with the emergence of eating disorders in adolescents. Circulating content about appearance and coupled with celebrities or influencers on social media seems to instill the ideal body shape, namely a slim body. There are bad comments about their bodies, the more they want to have a slim and thin body. They are dissatisfied with their current body image so they go on a stricter diet, and eating disorders occur. Conclusions: Social media and body shaming are often the cause of eating disorders suffered by teenagers. The presence of comments or jokes about their body shape makes teenagers feel that having a slim body is more accepted in their social circle, and eating disorders arise.

Abstract

Background: Stunting, often known as short children, is a condition in which a child's length or height is significantly below average for his or her age. Meeting children's basic needs throughout their formative years is an effective way to stop them from being stunted. Parents, and especially mothers, are responsible for seeing to their children's basic requirements. Developmental outcomes for toddlers are influenced by maternal involvement in caregiving. These fundamental requirements take the form of kindness, concern, and attention. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the pattern of nurturing, caring and caring provided by mothers and caregivers with the incidence of stunting in the working area of the Lontar Health Center in Surabaya. Methods: This study used a case-control design, making it an analytical observational study. A total of 52 children took part in the study, and they were split evenly between two groups (the "case" group included 26 kids, while the "control" group had 26 kids) (not stunted). Purposive sampling was utilized to gather these samples. The acquired data was put through a battery of statistical tests, and the findings were analyzed using the Chi-square technique. Results: The results of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between mother's knowledge (p=0.041) and patterns of breastfeeding related to the implementation of IMD (p=0,048) and the incidence of stunting. Conclusions: The conclusion obtained from this study is that mother's knowledge and implementation of IMD are related to the incidence of stunting.
