Abstract

This study is about the use of describing picture as method to develope students’ speaking skill of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tolitoli in the 2016/2017 academic year. The design of this research is pre experimental research. The sample of this research is the eleventh grade students that consist of 31 students. The data obtained from pre test and post test. In the pre test it is found that mean score of the student are 34,19 and in the post test are 69,67. Computation of the data tcount results is 19,86 which means higher than ttable is 2,042. The result indicates that there is an improvement in students’ speaking ability by using describing picture. It can be concluded that improving speaking skill by using picture is effective.Key word : Developing, Speaking Skill, Describing Picture

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of Think, Talk, Write Strategy effective to improve students’ ability in writing recount text. An experimental design was used to collect the data, while quantitative approach was used to analyze them. The study was taken by the first grade of SMK NEGERI 1 Tolitoli. It was conducted in one class (X PK 2).The data were obtained through a pre-test and post-test. The result of the analysis showed that Think, Talk, Write strategy contribute greatly to the students in writing recount text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 61.47 while in the post-test improved up to 78.93. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-count value 7.510 was greater than T-table value 2.045. It can be inferred that Think, Talk, Write strategy was very effective to improve students’ ability in writing recount text.Key words: Writing ability, Recount text, Think, Talk, Write Strategy.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the used word wall method in increase students’ vocabulary. An experimental design is used to collect the data. The researcher take the second grade of SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli Utara as object of the research.The data are obtain through a pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is used to measure the students previous ability in memorizing vocabulary, the treatment are apply materials through word wall method, and the post-test is use to find out the students’ vocabulary after give the treatment.The result of the analysis show the effectiviness of word wall in increasing vocabulary. It can be see by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 18.67 while in the post-test improve up to 47.89. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test are analyze by using T-test, and the result show that the T-test value 14.030 is greater than T-table value 2,048. It can be infer that word wall method is very effective in increasing students’ vocabulary in memorizing vocabulary. Key words: word wall, vocabulary, memorize vocabulary.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether the using of contextual teaching and learning can increase students’ vocabulary mastery. It is a pre-experimental research. The study was taken by the seventh grade of MTs Negeri 02. Tolitoli. It was conducted in one class (VII D). The data were obtained through a pre-test and post-test.The mean score of pre-test was (65.6) while in the post-test improved up to (74.07). Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-count value was 5.48 greater than T-table value was 1.701 It can be inferred that the using of contextual teaching and learning method can increase students’ vocabulary mastery. Keywords: Increase, Vocabulary, Contextual Teaching Learning.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to identify whether the use of story map technique can improve students’ ability in writing narrative text. This pre-experimental study uses 23 students as a sample. They are grade eight at MTs DDI Kel. BaruTolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The researcher gives pretest and posttest to know the use of story map technique can improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text or not. The result of the analysis shows that story map technique contributes greatly to the students in comprehending narrative text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 62.30 while in the post-test improve up to 82.09. The data of this research are analyzed by SPSS Program 16. Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test are analyze by using T-test, and the result show that the T-test value 7.572 is greater than T-table value 2.074. It can be inferred that story map technique is very effective to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text. Keywords: Improving, reading comprehension, narrative text, scanning technique.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the application of Task Based Learning strategy to improve students’ ability in reading descriptive text. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Ogodeide from March to April 2017. This research is categorized as a collaborative classroom action research. The researcher worked collaboratively with one English teacher, Mr. Lisman S.Pd in the class. The researcher did two cycles in which each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained by analyzing observation result, field note, and interview. Then quantitative data were obtained from the students’ reading test. The result of this study show that task based learning is effective in improving students’ reading ability. Researchers conduct II cycles in this study. In cycle I the students’ mean score increased from 48% (preliminary test result) to 68% (final result of cycle I test). In cycle II, the students’ mean score is 80%. This means that classroom action research is successful. Then, the researcher concludes from this data, that task based learning is appropriate for reading because it makes students more active, participation and student value increase in reading ability. Key Word: Improving, Reading ability, Descriptive text, Task based learning.

Abstract

This research belongs to experimental design with pre-test and post-test activity. The objective of the research is to find out how Song can increase the students’ achievment in vocabulary mastery. Sample of the research were 25 students’ of tenth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Galang. In doing this research, the researcher used a media or Song of production. The data analysis of the research was quantitative measurement to find the mean. Based on the data analysis from pre-test and post-test activity. Based on the result, it was found that the use of Song in teaching English is effective to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery and very beneficial for the students in order to facilitate them in learning English. Based on this finding, it is suggested that Song in teaching English can be recommended for the English taecher. but the English teacher should select appropriate Song to the students’. Keywords : increasing, Vocabulary, Mastery, Song.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether kwl strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension or not.. This research is pre experimental research design consist of one group pre-test and post-test. The Population of this research is the eighth grade of SMPN 8 Tolitoli in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIIib consisted of 17 students. In collecting the data, the researcher took from the result of pre-test and post-test. The researcher analized the data  statically.The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 84.35is higher than pretest 61,18. To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 16 degree of freedom (17-1=16), the researcher found that the tcounted (13,24) is higher than ttable (2,120) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted.The researcher concluded that applicationkwl strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension in recount text of eight grade at SMP N 8 Tolitoli. Key words:improving reading comprehension, and kwl strategy.

Abstract

This research objective was to prove that whether of the use of pictures can improve students writing descriptive test or not. The design of this research was pre-experimental research. The sample of the research was the seventh grade students that consisted of 27 students. They were grade VIIA of SMP Negeri 2 Tolitoli. The data obtained from pre-test, treatment and post-test. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test to know students previous ability in writing descriptive text. The result of the data analysis showed that pictures contributed greatly to the students writing descriptive text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 36.41 while in the post-test improved up to 68.52. The data of this research were analyzed by using SPSS program version 16.0. The Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both tests were analyzed by using T-test, and result showed that the T-test value 18.43 was high than T-table value 2.056 . The result indicates that there was an improvement in writing descriptive text by using pictures. It can concluded that teaching writing descriptive text by using pictures is effective to improve students writing descriptive text.Keywords : Writing, Descriptive text, Pictures.
