Abstract

The education sector is increasingly recognizing the significance of teachers' well-being and the impact of a healthy work-life balance on organizational success. This study focused on identifying factors influencing the quality of Work-Life Balance (WLB) among secondary school teachers in 14 schools in Gingoog City Division. The research employed a sequential explanatory mixed-method approach, gathering both numerical and qualitative data from 283 teachers. The results indicated that millennial educators reported the highest satisfaction, tested at 0.05 level, with their WLB, followed by Generation X, Gen Z, and Boomer teachers. The study identified six key factors influencing WLB, with career progression emerging as a common predictor across all generations. Additionally, financial condition was a significant factor for boomers, autonomy and financial condition for Generation X teachers, financial condition and technological literacy for millennial teachers, and technological literacy, social support, and autonomy for Gen Z teachers. The research also unveiled facilitating factors such as work-life balance principles, workload management strategies, preferences for school support systems, and self-care practices. Conversely, hindering factors included workload pressures and time management challenges, difficulties in the work environment, and frustrations related to DepEd policies. Based on these findings, a Teachers Wellness Program is proposed to be incorporated in the Enhanced School Improvement Plan (ESIP) to promote the WLB of teachers across different generational cohorts.

Abstract

The science curriculum is designed to be learner-centered, constructivist, and inquiry-based, using evidence to build explanations. This study aimed to investigate the competence level of teachers in the implementation of an authentic learning approach. It employed a quantitative descriptive correlational design using an online survey among grade 10 junior high school science teachers and students from seven (7) private schools in Butuan City during the academic year 2021-2022. Results consistently indicated high teaching competence among science teachers in most schools; however, certain indicators such as gamification, Phet simulations, and conducting small-scale research still need to be implemented in some schools. Significant differences in competence and implementation of authentic learning approach were noted based on schools, attributed factors such as the use of learning management system, resource availability, and online training for teachers. Moreover, a significant relationship was found between the competence of teachers and the implementation of an authentic learning approach. The study also found a commendable level of proficiency in the academic performance of students. However, no significant relationship was observed between teacher competence and the implementation of an authentic learning approach to students' academic performance. These findings suggested that students cultivated a sense of independence in their learning process. It emphasized that empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey and leveraging teachers' expertise as facilitators lays the foundation for enhanced academic success in science education.

Abstract

This study examines transformative leadership within Philippine educational settings to discern its impact on staff development, and institutional effectiveness. Utilizing a descriptive correlational design, the analysis involved diverse stakeholders and revealed that transformative leadership diverges significantly from traditional management, emphasizing innovation, empathy, and adaptability. It fosters a culture where staff confidence and autonomy lead to professional growth and improved educational outcomes. Additionally, the findings suggest that such leadership is essential for educational institutions navigating the complexities of modern education, including technological advancements and societal changes. Effective communication and systematic evaluation were identified as key for transformative leaders to measure and enhance student success despite facing resistance to change. The study concludes that transformative leadership will become increasingly central in education, driving institutions towards inclusivity and a forward-thinking ethos. It is recommended that Philippine educational institutions adopt transformative leadership to bridge disparities, enhance quality, and prepare for future educational demands. This approach is particularly beneficial for public schools, higher education, TVET institutions, private educational providers, policymakers, and community learning centers, promising to elevate the quality of education in a rapidly evolving global landscape

Abstract

Public signs at Watugong Monastery in Semarang serve not only as guides for visitors but also as representations of identity, meaning, and values. This study aims to uncover the meaning and representation of identity in the public signs of Watugong Monastery by considering the cultural, religious, and social contexts in accordance with the dominant ideology in the place. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a Barthes (1991) semiotics approach. Research data was collected through observation and documentation methods using photography techniques. The results of this study show that there are representations of cultural, religious, and socio-religious identities in the Public signs of Watugong Monastery. Religious identity comes from the interpretation of the object label signs 福 (fú), 祿 (lù), and 壽 (shòu) which reflect Chinese cultural values. Religious identity emerges from hiolo stick sign, which contains the meaning of strong faith in Buddha and his teachings through prayer and devotion supported by morality and exemplary behavior. Finally, socio-religious identity appears on the Ashoka inscription sign, the strong religious element derived from Buddhist teachings, the inscription also shows an example of social life between people of different faiths who must always teach tolerance and moderation in religion. This research is still very open for further research in various other aspects of LL, for example, visitors' perceptions of the language used at Watugong Monastery.

Abstract

This study aims to elucidate the empirical findings of the effectiveness of dictogloss approaches in teaching grade IX students at SMP Parulian 3 Medan how to create narratives. This study uses a quantitative approach. Pretest and posttest design is the experimental methodology used in this study. 36 students in grade IX at SMP Parulian 3 Medan participated in the study's population during the 2023–2024 academic year. The researcher chose two groups as the research sample by using purposive sampling. Class IX A, an experimental class, and class IX B, a control class that will learn to produce narrative texts using dictogloss procedures, make up the chosen research sample class. There were 36 pupils between the two classes. Before therapy, the researcher administered a pretest to both classes, and following treatment, a posttest. Students are instructed to produce narrative texts for both the pretest and posttest using the writing instrument used in this study. The efficacy of the dictogloss technique on students' narrative text writing was then ascertained by utilizing the t test formula to examine the data collected from the pretest and posttest. The t-observation value was 4.27 in the results. The tt (ttable) value with 34 degrees of freedom at a significance degree of 5% is 2.03. This shows that t is greater than tt, or alternative hypotheses (H_o) are rejected, and the alternative The hypothesis (H_a) is agreed upon. Thus, it can be said that the scores of students' narrative writing before and after using the dictogloss technique differ significantly. Stated differently, the dictogloss technique is effective for learning to write narrative texts.
